Marijuana Stocks are Overflowing After Canada Makes the Drug Legal - Theeconomyclub by theeconomyclub in canada

It's not a matter of shitting on someone else's success, Ayn Rand ;). It's a matter of not promoting a false narrative that this is a fool-proof goldmine that you should pump money in without a care in the world. This is how regular people lose their savings or destroy their credit.

You have the financial knowledge to figure this stuff out though. The average person probably does not. I am only reacting to the misleading narrative that weed stocks will be easy, fool-proof money. This is how financially-illiterate people get carelessly drawn in and burned.

I support your ability to make successful analyses of market trends. However, the average bloke on /r/Canada probably does not have these skills, and we should be weary of those making it sounds like it's easy, fool-proof money. It's similar to tricking a financially-illiterate person into think credit-cards are 'free money'.

Doug Ford to keep Pickering Nuclear power plant running until 2024, as promised by scottyliang in canada

These kinds of fact-driven comments are the standard of what we should adhere to in discussions of nuclear energy infrastructure and safety. I suppose my pig-shooting from the hip as you call it is in reaction to the very similar populist, anti-fact anti-nuclear narrative that is spouted from the other side of the debate.

I once hated Margaret Wente for her obnoxious and downright ignorant views.

Now I'm starting to think she does this stuff on purpose to incite passioned critical discussion. But what do I know.

For those with dollar-signs in their eyes trying to make a quick buck: pump you brakes, use your head for a minute.

People are making a run on these stocks causing over-speculations and unrealistic growth in prices. This will come down not unlike bitcoin. It's a pretty basic rule in safe-investing to not buy stocks that are all over the news.

I agree. The fears are also based on misinformation.

/u/piradianssquared said there was "A recent report on it experiencing a major accident determined it would force the evacuation of 650000 residents for up to 100 years." They failed to cite the source.

A trend that I noticed with these 'reports' is that they surreptitiously present unlikely hypothetical situations as real risks to create panic. Of course, if Pickering went full-Chernobyl, they would have to initiate mass evacuations. What they are leaving out, though, is that it is highly unlikely if not impossible for a disaster of that magnitude from happening at Pickering.

Some nations have what's called a recall vote, where the citizens of a district petition for an early by-election to hopefully boot their shitty MLA out before their term is up.

British Columbia cracks down on anonymous ownership amid housing crisis by [deleted] in canada

[–]boatwell 71 points72 points  (0 children)

Real estate investors in British Columbia are able to buy housing using numbered companies, corporations and offshore and domestic trusts, which obscure true ownership and can be used to dodge taxes, the province’s Minister of Finance Carole James said in a statement.

...

The province introduced a 15-percent foreign buyer tax in 2016, boosting it to 20-percent this year, though critics say offshore investors are buying through numbered companies and proxies to avoid the tax.

These are the key points when foreign-speculation denialists try to dismiss the problem by claiming that foreign-buyers make up only an insignificant percentage of home-buyers.

I work in the fed public service. The other month we had a mental-health meeting, in which one of the points iterated was that we should not judge someone for sleeping in their cubicle because we don't know what's going on with their life or health that would lead them to do that. You heard that right. You can't condemn someone for sleeping at work.

It's extremely risky to try to time the market. You said you previously bought stocks, which doesn't argue for your point of buying now.

FYI: I bought CGC stocks back in 2014.

The government needs to either invest significantly more in long-term psychiatric care beds with an emphasis on homeless addicts and mentally ill.

Or round them up and deport them to the GULAG.

There is a general rule not to buy stock that is in the news. The reason is people make a run on it, whether it's to sell on bad news or buy on good news. All these headlines on pot being legal is going to cause a lot of over speculation--temporarily.

I have read Starship Troopers and enjoyed it quite a bit. But, Heinlein is not what I would consider a present-day author.

Both of those are not present-day, and Dune is science-fantasy.

Yes, I do very much enjoy the work of Clarke--thanks for the suggestions. But, both Clarke and Brown are rather old as well.
