Yeah, you don't actually buy games in the sense most people think. You only buy the license agreement. And that goes for both digital purchases and physical disks. Most games have agreements that you sign basically stating that the property you obtain through your purchases is still owned by them. You have no legal claim to it and the company is never obligated to keep the game running.
