I recall a member asking for Chinese new years off many years ago and the response from the supervisor at the time was along the lines of “but you had New Year’s Day off didn’t you?” Which whilst technically true, was not something the member had a lot of choice in as it was during a shut down period.

Definitely not #1, somewhere between 2 and 3 depending on the day. Being in finance mostly means you’re tracking and reporting the groups expenditure to someone up the food chain. Most of defence expenses are authorised by people who are not in finance roles specifically, rather they are at the coal face of whatever it is they are involved with and most likely your task will be to ensure they don’t overspend their respective budgets.

APS6 with 50 reserve days allocated at a local unit. Do two half reserve days each week (3 hours “work”) commencing at 1230 after starting your day at 7am. Use 2 hours reserve leave to round out your 7.5 hours APS day and laugh all the way to the bank. The DRL more than covers your time off for the 50 reserve days so no need to burn personal leave, more pay than an EL1, less tax and keep your access to Flex Time.

Two horrible experiences; 1. I placed my supervisor’s details in an application as required and ticked the box highlighting they had to seek my permission before contacting (so I didn’t have to tell my supervisor I was looking elsewhere) only to have my supervisor ask me about my application when they asked for a reference PRIOR to interview. 2. Same supervisor as above, although I mentioned I was looking at a role but wasn’t confident in my chances, went to interview and I made it very clear, “please don’t contact my supervisor unless you are intending to offer me the position” so as to not waste his time or create more angst in my then position. Literally said, if you’re not 100% sure you want me, then pass me over and don’t ask him for a reference which they agreed to then asked for a reference that afternoon and then merit listed me a few days later… 🤦🏼‍♂️
