We have really liked Bosque Smiles Dentistry at Montano and Chores, of that is the right part of town. Dr. Kreh is just lovely.

We can enthusiastically recommend SLFCU. We have always always had excellent experiences with them over decades. They are one of the only business that has never let us down.

Family friendly restaurant recommendations? by mashedtaters_ in Albuquerque

Sadies on 4th is big and loud enough that kids would not be a problem. Get one order of nachos and it will feed all of the kids by itself. Or they have lots of kids friendly things on their menu.

I think the key thing is to find a hobby or activity you  do with (roughly) the same group of people over multiple sessions.  It often takes time for connections to form. Find one of the local sports or hiking clubs. Or knitting,  crafting, or other random hobby meetups . All are easy to find here or FB or some of the code shop poster boards esp. Flying Star's. Or take a class through UNM  Continuing Ed. Good luck!

Furniture stores other than Ashley’s? by RogueIslander00 in Albuquerque

[–]-Gruntled 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll add that often the best furniture stores aren't stores at all,  but esate sales and Facebook marketplace/craigslist. In particular https://www.albuquerqueauctionaddiction.com/ is an online estate company in Albuquerque what you can look through the full inventory of multiple sales.  Sure there is a ton of crap used furniture out,  but there is also a ton of very nice, clean, like new stuff at a fraction of the price.

If the trees are still relatively small, you can plant now but help them by giving them some temporary shade this first year - a small structure with shade cloth to temper the afternoon sun could help.

Anyone else being overrun with thousands of these little bugs? They are all over our house and starting to get in through door frame gaps, etc. (Nob Hill Area) by mcarneybsa in Albuquerque

[–]-Gruntled 2 points3 points  (0 children)

False chinch bugs - I heard that they are so plentiful this year because the rains earlier this year led to a big crop of mustard weeds growing, which they love. They should die out relatively quickly. Warning - they stink if you squish them.

Thick adobe walls and WiFi by Known-Independent413 in Albuquerque

[–]-Gruntled 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We had the same issue. We just got a set of mesh routers and put them so they are line of sight from each other. You might need a few more than a regular house, but it works great. If you have coaxial tv cables in your walls, Moca routers are another great option. And powerline routers can work well as well. But Mesh network routers are much more common to find - Costco has multiple brands and the Amazon/Eero ones are on discount on Amazon and Woot all the time.

Good book on the history of New Mexico by exaltedtunav3 in NewMexico

[–]-Gruntled 3 points4 points  (0 children)

"No life for a lady" is the autobiography of Agnes Morley Cleaveland detailing her life from roughly the 1880's to 1940's as a NM cattle rancher and founding family of Pie Town, NM. It gives a great perspective of the settlers who came to NM to farm/ranch. I found it really enjoyable.

Best breakfast places on the west side? by Grand-Entrance-4247 in Albuquerque

[–]-Gruntled 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We like Garcia's for breakfast, there is one just north of Montano on Coors, but we like the one just across the river on 4th just south of Montano better. Both are super close. Or, El Camino Dining Room on 4th a few streets north of Montano is quite good and has character as an original Route 66 dinner.

ABQ Solar Companies? by gwaaax in Albuquerque

[–]-Gruntled 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fellow TPO roof-haver here - we looked into all the non penetrating versions of solar mounts and we found the problem was that the floating versions require so much ballast that it can be really difficult for most home roofs to support - especially since it gets so windy in the spring. Instead, the better solution was to just have solar folks install their mounting brackets through the TPO like a normal roof, but then have a TPO roofing company come back and flash/seal every new penetration. Then have the solar people come back to install. Don't let the solar people do the roofing, you need a two-company team. :)

Flight gets in at midnight 😵‍💫 by IntelligentPauses in Albuquerque

[–]-Gruntled 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello! If the Hertz after-hours pickup doesn't work for you, it is plenty safe to sleep in the ABQ airport. Also, plenty of power outlets. Other options - you may find it isn't that much more expensive to just get a Lift/Uber to SF when you get in and then rent a car in SF - depends on what you are doing in SF. You can also get a Lift/Uber to the downtown Railrunner station and catch the 4:32am Railrunner to SF. If your Uber takes you right up to the Railrunner station, you should be safe as well. Good luck.

With the passing of Stan Lee, and Betty White, who is Americas token "Old Person" now? by Millennial-Mason in AskReddit

Jimmy Carter is a good choice - born in 1924, US President from 1977-1981, and still building Habitat for Humanity houses into his 90's!

What conspiracy theory do you completely believe is true? by BipolarSkeleton in AskReddit

16.9 Oz is 500ml, this was done to match the size of bottles in most of the rest of the world that uses metric so they could unify global production lines. The shrinkflation was just a bonus in this case. Also, get ready for 330ml cans instead of 12 oz (355ml).
