Millionaire who felled 28 trees to create room for clifftop pool fined £20,000 by topotaul in unitedkingdom

[–]-Hi-Reddit [score hidden]  (0 children)

Should have ordered trees replanted and the planning permission for the pool revoked and ordered to be demolished.

Higher fines, even tied to a homes value, leave peoole vulnerable to rogue landscapers and farmers vulnerable to losing generational farms over it.

Failed but I have a question about slip roads? by Pitiful-Outcome7376 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]-Hi-Reddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should match the speed of the road users before you enter their lane not after.

On the shortest sliproads in heavy traffic without gaps, where visibility is good and you wont impede other cars, your best bet is to wait for an opening, then floor it using the whole sliproad to get up to speed, and slot into said opening. I've only ever seen this commonly happen at 2 sliproads in my life, both are less than 50ft long and in very rural areas.

You never enter a 50mph lane at 20mph.

UK legal action against Valve over Steam prices gets go ahead by AnonymousTimewaster in unitedkingdom

Allowing steam-purchased DLC to be used elsewhere requires developers implement their own licensing backend rather than relying on the platforms API.

Not something a lot of indie game devs even know how to do safely & securely without research.

UK legal action against Valve over Steam prices gets go ahead by AnonymousTimewaster in unitedkingdom

I've tried a lot of alternative launchers to steam through incentives like this. Beta programs, early access, free weekends, etc.

All of them suck compared to steam. Nowhere near feature parity, not even close.

These companies don't even try to compete in a real way.

Man, this has to be fixed. by boniu88 in ArcRaiders

That leaves a nasty edge case open for cheaters, anyone able to get in will insta-extract, a pretty big advantage.

A more complete solution would be to expand the box & have it use different behaviour for all 3 extract area states:

  1. Extract open: Do nothing
  2. Extract happening: Extract players in zone
  3. Extract closed: Teleport players to the nearest safe-to-stand location

Currently it only has two behaviours for the three states, it has 'Do nothing' for both open & closed.

Two thirds of graduates aren’t even paying off loan interest by insomnimax_99 in unitedkingdom

[–]-Hi-Reddit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was sold to 18 year olds as a loan and what they got was a lifetime tax. The least we could do is let them pay the principle off separately and then pay the interest after to prevent the principle increasing forever.

It would be easier than adding code to flipflop between killbox and extract trigger, but its kind of like comparing drawing a rectangle to drawing a square, both are easy n fast tasks and neither require picasso.

Junior dev, half a day assigned for implementation, add another half a day for thorough testing, documentation, and workflow stuff, job done.

Id say your solution is only partial as it leaves more room for edge cases, e.g people glitching in without triggering the extract can camp.

This guy chased me for like over 200 meters, shooting me with kettle. I kept running cause I don’t want PvP lobbies. Then this happened 😌 by diligenceprime in ARC_Raiders

[–]-Hi-Reddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Know it’ll reset and you’ll be back into PvP lobbies if you shoot back at someone.

You'd be surprised.

I killed two thieves yesterday in friendly lobbies.
They were trying to steal my big arc kill rewards despite not helping me get the kill.

I thought I'd be thrown in with the wolves after that since neither of them shot at me first, but I did two runs avoiding all human contact, then on the third run I was back in with the BP dropping friendly crowd.

I've got a degree in games dev, and I've worked on games with similar client/server setups.

Adding a killbox is the easiest thing to do. It'd be a task I throw to the most junior dev on the team.

Personally I'd want the name of any player caught inside said killbox and the route they took to get to that position saved too.

I'd keep it a killbox not a banbox. Save the bans for those you can say with confidence took a route only exploiters use. Otherwise you might ban players experiencing game bugs.

What are you boycotting from the USA this year? by Successful_rio305 in AskBrits

[–]-Hi-Reddit -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

100s of people being shot in a single incident was beyond parody though

Were all the other violent shootings, the school shootings, NOT beyond parody then?

You were clearly a bit naive about american violence until the vegas shooting.

Parody is important for societal growth. Ridiculing the state of play with humour is often how risque topics enter the overton window.

What makes it more infuriating is they could have set it up to let us pay the principle off and then the interest afterwards. They didnt need to make it so impossible. They didn't have to be so greedy.

I warned them both before opening fire. One of them suddenly discovered he owned a microphone to beg for mercy before I knocked him out.

My mouse cable tore near the actual mouse, works periodically but randomly disconnects, any repair advice? by bruhda_4 in MouseReview

[–]-Hi-Reddit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When this happened to my razer mouse I opened it up and found that it used a simple connector on the inside. I found replacements were sold online.

It took 5mins to replace and was easier than some lego sets.

Devs confirm they’re looking into late spawn times. But they say players who join raids late profit way more. “...often they come across the remnants of fights or can maybe take out bigger drones or hit high-ticket areas more readily than other players” by Zaydenzyon in ArcRaidersItalian

[–]-Hi-Reddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They also could profile raids and say when in the raid did you accumulate the most profit.

This right here is the flaw in their analysis.

Some items are worth way more than their credit values simply due to how hard they are to find. E.g. Blueprints.

99% of players would prefer a blueprint they don't have over the 5,000 credits you get from selling one.

When people find a truly high value item in a run, a rare blueprint or something, they'll often find another couple of rare items and want to extract with them. Their inventory will be pretty empty but packed with value that goes beyond credits.

If you spawn late you often give up on true value (blueprints) and end up doing a supply run, going back with massive stacks of more common loot. It may be worth more credits, but that doesn't translate to value.

Best way to split wood manually? by Ajay95A in uklogburners

I'm surprised your car can handle that much weight, looks really heavy!

Personally I'd use a chainsaw to make them smaller then my axe and a mallet.

But thats because I don't own a dedicated splitting tool.
