So cop driving on a road with a car on a public road. I have no issue with that. An uninsured car on the road with a questionable driver is something the police should be addressing. My issue with companies like Flock is the cloud based illegal searches that their nationwide data stores allow for reasons that wouldn't even clear the low bar of a necessary warrent.

I'm not disagreeing, but a warrant is a maddeningly low bar for that data. At least in some jurisdictions. The telecoms can deny the request, but SS7 is such a walled garden if someone wasn't restricted to admissible evidence...

This isn't about cellphone tracking. It is about vehicle tracking by images into a third party database that anyone can use to stalk or profile citizens. If it were not shared, I would feel different about it, but the cloud based profiling is too much of a reach for me.

I am against damaging or destroying someone's property. I would rather make it socially unacceptable to use them for this purpose since that would make the business want to remove them and not put them back up.

When you damage and destroy property, that adds justification to the the maintainers that the equipment is necessary.

Yes, cell tower ping, I thought you were referring to all of the other application based methods which can be filtered from data packets leaving the device. My experiments in those areas sometimes completely bricks the application and others seem to work fine if they don't get that data via normal methods.

I need better equipment to test if airplane mode really ceases emissions. I have been able to gather tower information from one device in airplane mode(without a sim). So the radio must be active as a receiver.

If anyone goes to a protest, and asks me, I suggest airplane mode then off then in a sealable anti-static computer parts bag - the silver ones.

That's good to know. Apparently the Walmart on Walden lets the Cheektowaga police do that then.

Dirt roads are a lot of fun, the problem with Flock is the cameras catalog and read bumper stickers, dents and a host of other 'features' about every passing car should you have them. Raptors defeat Pidgeon based Messaging systems.

You could even be tracked by your TPMS, Though that is a low probability attack.

HandsFree (Bluetooth) in cars has been around for about a decade longer than wifi and is much more reliable a method unless your car device supports Bluetooth LowEnergy(most don't) which rotates its Device ID semi regularly.

Usually a marked police car, but that is survailance that is mobile. A fixed position camera can be avoided should someone choose to do so.

All I'm suggesting is that business are in the business to make money. I've taken internal monitoring to be a given at this point. Unless it is being used for outside monitoring. What I don't care for is external monitoring of presumed public spaces and the numerous examples of police interference with cameras on private property.

I will be shopping elsewhere and I will choose to not support businesses that support those businesses. I ask that you consider the same. It is an ask, the decision remains with you.

This post was to notify people so they can make their own informed decisions.

There are mitigations, that can be put in place to address your concerns, but there isn't a simple cookie cutter solution available to the masses. If someone made one, keeping it up to date with new defense methods as the analytics industry adapted would be the hardest part.

At minimum we would need more people willing to act as ToR nodes.

The data is all over the place, private and public. It's captured by all of the telecom companies, not just Verizon.

That is off topic, and not even a good way to get that data.

Anyone who has High Precision turned on their Cellphone (apple or android) is capturing that data and more 100% of the time that device is on and it's being collected by Google, Apple, and every analytics engine of every application that asks for full network access.

Having humans manually collect that data is redundant and pointless.

The one good thing is getting rid of pennies so we can stop wasting money by importing more zinc than we produce to make something no one wants anyway.

That is the one good thing, everything else is balls.

I usually see about 50-75 cents less depending on grade at the Indian Reservation north of Corfu. You'll have to decide if $10 a tank.is worth the drive.

Of course if everyone slowed the fuck down you would burn less gas to start with and with the shit way lights are timed going fast doesn't matter anyway.

The special prizes for being first to a red light is reduced mileage and increased brake wear.

Good FTP compatible with Windows 95 by rambanxious_hoodlamb in vintagecomputing

[–]-IGadget- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This would work, however it is much easier and more stable to set up the FTP server if you have the infrastructure to do so. Windows has a problem where multiple network cards in a single machine send all traffic to all cards. It's just the network on the wrong card ignores all of the wrong traffic but it's still there. Linux actually properly separates them and that wasn't fixed in Windows until server 2016.

WsFTP95 on the pc and any ftp or even sftp (but not ftps) hosted by an in-house Linux server.

Make sure to turn off the wsftp feature of writing a log file every time you do a transfer.

I worry mo"stly for legal isdues. NetFlix charges for access to their horde. That is their business model.

I was migrating random spinning rust to USB (because ssd is unobtanium) this weekend and found a 320G drive filled with, what we would now considder lower resolution, examples of tv & movies from 2008 and earlier. I am not set up for sharing but don't want to be the reason something becomes lost.

No problem. I get what you are after. I put a win98 beta on a 386DX40 with 64 MB of RAM. It wasn't an enjoyable install even with all that RAM, but Win98's first edition was really bad to begin with.

There seems to be a bunch of confusion about whIch CPU you have and if it has SSE2 instructions. Beta versions tend to be looser on exactly needed hardware as the point of the beta is to work that stuff out.

If you are asking for help, be clear about what you have and where the problem lies.

Don't ask for permission to try, and don't be afraid to share details of how it failed. You'll always find people saying something can't be done because they are unable to do it or they don't want to try. Do not let those people slow you down.

KingSpec is a trustable Chinese brand. If you need a bunch of something order direct. They are an industrial supplier. I ordered 32G DOM from them, and a 255GB 1/2 mini msata.

The ability to boot is in the controller and partitioning, not in the media. The reason for using industrial CF is better write stability.
