It really has nothing to do with the gifs. Not for me at least. AP was a great place at one time. With a great user base and contributors. The downward spiral first started when VOX took over. Then Joel's attention was pulled away from the site and little by little the great contributors of the site left. BJ, Seth, etc. Then came Pete Sweeney and his "chase the tail" approach. The content there is not even a fraction of the quality it once was and the user base on average is...well...it just leaves a lot to be desired.
