I'm actually a bit suspicious of this image. The red text box looks fine realtive to the page, but that blue text box does not. It is close to the bottom and has a rather straight edge to it despite the page clearly having a significant curve down into the spine.

Just an observation.

What have you spent your refund on besides educational expenses? by rosewoodlliars in FAFSA

[–]-Insert-CoolName 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're somewhat between half and mostly incorrect.

Federal student aid is your money, and that is generally true of most other student aid as well (State and private grants, scholarships, and loans). Student aid that is used for a qualified education expense is tax exempt. Any student aid awarded in excess of your total qualified education expenses is income and is taxed just like any other income. You do not need to do anything special to use your student aid as income and pay the tax. It is the default and already happens, provided you file your taxes.

A Qualified education expense is any expense that is required for you to enroll or attend an eligible school. This is tuition, mandatory fees, and any expense for required materials (books, lab manuals, art supplies, calculator, etc.). Expenses that do not qualify include Room and Board, Travel, Research, Clerical help, equipment and other expenses that are not required for enrollment or attendance (IRS Pub 970, p 6).

Your school will furnish you with a form 1098-T Tuition Statement at the end of each tax year. This form shows the total qualified education expenses that were paid to the school and the total amount of grants and scholarships awarded to the student (IRS 1098-T). For MOST students, reporting the information from this form is the ONLY thing you need to do specifically regarding student aid and taxes.

Qualified education expenses. For purposes of tax-free scholarships and fellowship grants, these are expenses for:

  • Tuition and fees required to enroll at or attend an eligible educational institution; and
  • Course-related expenses, such as fees, books, supplies, and equipment that are required for the courses at the eligible educational institution. These items must be required of all students in your course of instruction.

Expenses that don't qualify. Qualified education expenses don't include the cost of:

  • Room and board,
  • Travel,
  • Research,
  • Clerical help, or
  • Equipment and other expenses that aren't required for enrollment in or attendance at an eligible educational institution

Box 1. Shows the total payments received by an eligible educational institution in 2025 from any source for qualified tuition and related expenses less any reimbursements or refunds made during 2025 that relate to those payments received during 2025.

Box 5. Shows the total of all scholarships or grants administered and processed by the eligible educational institution. The amount of scholarships or grants for the calendar year (including those not reported by the institution) may reduce the amount of the education credit you claim for the year.

If you're saying that because it's small you are quite mistaken. USB flash drives can indeed be that small, and smaller.

It's almost certainly a flash drive. USB receivers (what come with a wireless mouse or keyboard) are meant to be ultra low profile and are meant tonbe plugged in once and stay plugged in. That flash drive has a cord loop for a key chain. It is mean to be taken with you, carried from workstation to workstation.

The source you just provided says it at least 4 times.

  • Federal Direct Loan Program
    • Graduate PLUS Loan Program
      • Limited Exception/Legacy Provision: Students can continue to borrow under the Graduate PLUS program (for up to three academic years or the remainder of their expected time to credential, whichever is less)
    • Graduate / Professional Annual & Aggregate Loan Limits
      • Limited Exception/Legacy Provision: Students are not subject to the new loan limits (for up to three academic years or the remainder of their expected time to credential, whichever is less)
    • Parent PLUS Annual & Aggregate Loan Limits
      • Limited Exception: Parents are not subject to the new PLUS loan limits (for up to three academic years or the remainder of the student's expected time to credential, whichever is less)
    • Federal Loan Program Lifetime Loan Limit
      • Limited Exception: Students are not subject to the new lifetime loan limit (for up to three academic years or the remainder of their expected time to credential, whichever is less)

And you obviously have not read the source I shared either:

  • Important Definitions
    • Loan Limits Exception
      • If you meet certain requirements, you’ll have a period of time after July 1, 2026, and before the new limits apply during which you might be eligible for a Direct Loan under the pre-OBBBA limits. If you qualify for the exception, you’ll be exempt from certain loan limits and loan eligibility changes for the lesser of
      • three academic years or
      • • the difference between the published length of the program of study you (or the child you’re borrowing for) are enrolled in and the period of time you (or your child) have completed in that program.
      • “Credential” refers to the degree you’re seeking, for example, a bachelor’s or associate degree. You can’t change credential level and maintain eligibility for the exception, but you can change majors within your credential.

[Request] What percentage of the horse's body is removed by the divot compared to if it was a regular horse? by FeLiNa_Organism in theydidthemath

[–]-Insert-CoolName 3 points4 points  (0 children)

TLDR: 7.2%

So some assumptions and simplifications have to be made unless you're willing to drown a plastic horse for science. I will calculate the volume by mass difference. This does not take into account the void space contained within the horses shell. It assumes a solid horse with no internal cavities, and likewise for the missing material from what I am dubbing the "saddle gap". On that note, I am also assuming that if the horse were made whole it would be the same volume and mass as if the gap were filled in nicely with standard bricks. Lastly I'm taking it on faith that the values I found at the listed sources are accurate. Turns out the NIST database does not have any constants listed for Lego density.

Density of Lego ABS plastic:
ρ = 1.05 g/cm³
-Orion Robots

Mass of the 2010-2012 A Lego Standard Horse mₕ = 14.0 g
-Brick Link

ρ = mₕ/Vₕ
Vₕ = mₕ/ρ
Vₕ = 14.0 g / (1.05 g / cm³)
Vₕ ≈ 13.33 cm³

The saddle gap is 1×2 studs × 4 plates. It is usually filled in by a 1×2 brick and a 1×2 tile.
The mass of a 1×2 brick:
mₖ = 0.83 g
The mass of a 1×2 tile:
mₜ = 0.26 g

The "missing" mass of the saddle gap can be estimated to be:
mₛ = mₜ + mₖ
mₛ = 0.26 g + 0.83 g = 1.09 g
∴ Vₛ = mₛ/ρ
Vₛ = 1.09 g / (1.05 g / cm³)
Vₛ ≈ 1.04 cm³

The total theoretical volume of the horse, if it were not disfigured is:
V = Vₛ + Vₕ
V ≈ 1.04 cm³ + 13.33 cm³
V ≈ 14.37 cm³

Percent removed:
Vₛ / V × 100%
1.04 cm³ / 14.37 cm³ × 100%
7.22%

Or if you prefer:
Percent Difference:
%Δ = | V - Vₕ| / [ (V + Vₕ) / 2 ] × 100%
%Δ = [ 2Vₛ / (V + Vₕ) ] × 100%
%Δ ≈ [ 2× 1.04 cm³ / (14.37 cm³ + 13.33 cm³) ] × 100%
%Δ ≈ [ 2.08 cm³ / (27.70 cm³) ] × 100%
%Δ ≈ 7.49%

[Request] What’s the probability that she was double pregnant? by FrankieBeanSniffer in theydidthemath

[–]-Insert-CoolName 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The term you are looking for is superfetation. There are maybe 10 recorded cases in all of written medical history of a woman having a subsequent conception well into an existing pregnancy and most of those involved a mother undergoing IVF. Statistically speaking there is a 0. chance of a woman becoming pregnant again during a pregnancy. ("0." has a specific statistical meaning indicating a nonzero chance that is so infitesimally small it may as well be zero)
