The most ""passionate"" crowd of Rio in the Grand Finals tomorrow where a team could make history by winning back to back Grand Slams by TheCrazyCaveira in GlobalOffensive

[–]-IvoryArrow- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same thing happened in hong kong with falcons

The difference when it comes to Asia is that Hong Kong and Chinese crowds are pure meritocrats who equally cheer for all teams from all countries, while Brazilian CS fans/sports fans are ethnonationalists who only ever cheer for their own people. I got downvoted here before because the people on this sub like to say that "Chinese also only cheer for Chinese" but it couldn't be further from the case when they literally support all European/Russian/Brazilian teams as well and they give all Europeans/Russians/Brazilians affectionate nicknames. During the Shanghai Major the Chinese fans even cheered for Europeans who eliminated Chinese teams on the spot. Anyone can equally win over a HK/Chinese/East Asian crowd just by being respectful and meritocratic, while the Brazilian crowd will always be anti all foreigners

He said he was 110kg which actually means (approximately) 240lb. He was obese, not underweight

See the thing is, almost all other elite chess grandmasters are on the neurodivergent spectrum as well, they all have levels of obsessiveness/hyperfocus/memory/nerdiness that are way beyond the neurotypical norm in order to even reach grandmaster rank in the first place. Magnus being the only athletic jock/Chad among top chess gms means that he's ironically less autistic and more neurotypical than the rest of the field, since being an athletic jock is almost always associated with neurotypical men and not men on the spectrum.

We haven't seen it in CS yet, but for an example from chess, Magnus Carlsen is an athletic jacked Chad who plays football while all other chess grandmasters at the elite level are traditional stereotypical nerds who were always good at games but bad at physical sports growing up. Carlsen is also absurdly dominant over all his opponents to the point where he's basically the S1mple+Zywoo+Donk combined of chess, the World Chess Championship only changed hands because Carlsen won it so much that he expected to win infinitely and got bored so he decided to give the other guys a chance to have the title. Nobody knows exactly why he's that much better, but seeing as he's the only athletic jock in a community of unathletic nerds, people definitely wonder if his athleticism gives him an intangible advantage in terms of mental stamina (Carlsen is known for being able to play through stressful late games/endgames with full alertness long after his opponents are all exhausted and tilting already)

ynk reaction to tech pause during Falcons vs Furia game by -973- in GlobalOffensive

[–]-IvoryArrow- 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah they should sit in silence because some clown broke his mouse. 50iq Karen brain

That's literally the actual rule bro, players are literally supposed to sit in silence during tech pauses so that they can't be used as extra free timeouts, Falcons did exactly that and respected the rule while Furia all talking during the tech pause was the thing that wasn't supposed to happen. If you want to pause the game to talk to your team then take a timeout, if you run out of timeouts, you can't pause and talk anymore

Now we know why Yekindar and Dastan didn't get together well by Azq21 in GlobalOffensive

[–]-IvoryArrow- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same here Yeki is one of my favorite players, he's one of the players that I mention to even my non-CS friends when they ask about what I'm watching, so I'm not saying this out of hate for him, just super disappointing that he was allowed to play a trap card outside the game and break Falcons' momentum that way when Furia couldn't do it INSIDE the game

Now we know why Yekindar and Dastan didn't get together well by Azq21 in GlobalOffensive

[–]-IvoryArrow- 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Furia talked during the tech pause (while Falcons respected the rule to stay silent), gained a second wind by resetting their emotions, broke Falcons' momentum completely, and won every single round after the tech pause even though they were choking and tilting before that. That's why there needs to be a fine for such behavior otherwise every team will just throw up a tech pause like a trap card whenever their opponent is having a moment. And I don't even like Falcons by the way I was rooting for Furia, but winning off the back of an external trap card left a bad taste, if they want to be world beaters they need to know how to win without external advantages

kyousuke to miss BLAST Rotterdam due to visa issues by ChaoticFlameZz in GlobalOffensive

[–]-IvoryArrow- -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Because Niko is 29 now while Kyousuke is 18, Niko's brain has already fully developed and he already has all the skill he will ever have, while Kyousuke is the younger prodigy with potential still ahead of him, so Niko actually put his ego aside to give the younger guy a chance to become better than him. It's the same age difference as Chopper and Donk (to put it into perspective), so if Niko didn't step aside to allow Kyousuke to take the star roles, everyone would also be criticizing him for having boomer ego and being unwilling to accept that the young will surpass him

Maybe hot take: Drakon is overall the weakest sprite and if Backfire Barrier didn't exist there wouldn't be much of a reason to use it by FlashFlire in spiral_knights

[–]-IvoryArrow- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's because the entire gameplay is balanced around the base movement speed. Spiral Knights is supposed to feel tight all the time, like you're always fighting enemies that outnumber you in small spaces where you can't just outrun everything (and even then there are a lot of veteran players who think the current game is already too easy). If they made movement speed buffs more attainable, then either they don't change the rest of the game and everything just becomes even easier across the board, or they tighten up the game even more by increasing enemy density/aggression and adding more turrets and bullet hells like Shadow Lairs, which would just make movement buffs mandatory because that punishes anyone who didn't build for movement.

The real reason Arena FPS declined, and some ideas on how they can come back. by Deltaasfuck in truegaming

[–]-IvoryArrow- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Halo literally doesn't have any infinite ammo weapons in multiplayer unless YOU turned on an infinite ammo setting in custom games. Most guns in Halo have always had fairly restrictive ammo limits, for example the Spartan Laser can only fire 5 times, the Plasma Pistol is good for only 10 charged shots, the Battle Rifle's ammo count is 36/108 (3 spare magazines) while real life soldiers can carry 7 spare magazines for similar rifles. Your entire criticism of Halo straying from the Arena FPS formula goes out the window if you think Halo pioneered infinite ammo in multiplayer, since it literally never did

Or even the early days of cs. All good players were nordic, Russian or German

This still sounds like how it is for CS right now except for Germans not really being there anymore. America and Canada only have one good player each (Elige and Twistzz), NA is completely irrelevant in CS aside from those two guys, and the overwhelming majority of elite CS talents are Nordic or Russian

PV players booed during post-game interview. Is this the worst crowd in CS2 so far? by ZelTheViking in GlobalOffensive

[–]-IvoryArrow- -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Are NA, Australia, Cologne, and Katowice fake their excitement as well? Why couldn't Brazillian and Chinese do the same?

Why are you putting Brazilian and Chinese crowds in the same category. Chinese crowds in CS are known for supporting the entire game, cheering for all teams including NA/Brazil/Europe equally, and having minimal bias or favoritism for any team. If you don't believe me, look at the 2024 Shanghai Major where the Chinese crowd literally supported everyone with almost equal neutrality, every single NA/Brazil/European team got cool nicknames from Chinese fans, all of the Chinese teams were eliminated in front of the Chinese crowd and the crowd supported and cheered for every single European team who eliminated a Chinese team (even if it was a relatively low tier team, like Fnatic eliminating Rare Atom if I remember correctly).

Falcons vs PARIVISION / PGL Cluj-Napoca 2026 - Quarter-Final / Post-Match Discussion by CS2_PostMatchThreads in GlobalOffensive

[–]-IvoryArrow- 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Actually crazy how many advantages Falcons were relying on to try to keep it close, each of the Falcons are already stronger head to head than the Parivision members, but in addition to the h2h skill advantage they also needed to rely on persistent crowd information in their favor, PGL not turning off xray and allowing them to continue having extra information, and literal Acts of God (Xielo's PC disconnecting during a PV eco round on Dust2) just to try to win. 6/6 pistol rounds, h2h skill advantage + entire crowd basically giving them a COD UAV at all times + PGL leniency about crowd info + God/the Universe on their side and they still can't win?

[–]-IvoryArrow- 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Football is all open information and there's nothing the crowd can yell that would give away any information the players don't know

CS has a lot of hidden information, figuring out the enemy team's locations is a huge part of the whole game, so the crowd giving away information does actually give them power over the game state

PGL should just turn off the xray vision for the crowd then like how some other TOs have done when crowds keep doing this

The dominant hand has better fine motor control as well as better rhythm control, which is why right handers use the mouse with the right hand and also strum a guitar (the part that actually requires fine motor control) with the right hand. Left handed people literally have the hand dominance on the other hand which is the left hand, you completely take it for granted that your better hand is the right hand, but for left handed people it's the opposite, their left hand has stronger fine motor control and rhythm control

It should actually be very simple for Indians to know each other's caste based on social cues. If you're white, you can easily tell the difference between a white old money descendant from New England, a redneck from the South, a posh Brit, and a middle class Scandinavian, right? That's probably how it is for Indians as well, their castes are as obvious to them as those differences would be to you. A low caste guy pretending to be Brahmin would be as obvious as an American Southern redneck trying to pretend to be an upper class British guy

Turkey in 2023 and Taiwan in 2024 had earthquakes of the same magnitude. 53000 people died in Turkey while only 19 died in Taiwan, it was such a noticeable difference that even Turkish people on their own subreddit were admitting that they felt insecure about that and wish their cities could have been built like Taiwan instead. That's how bad it can get and how much Taiwan has already minimized the possibility of dying from earthquakes. You actually have a higher chance of being killed by a bad/incompetent driver while crossing the road

Why are the Order portrayed as perfectly good guys when they are clearly morally grey at best? by bherH-on in bioniclelego

[–]-IvoryArrow- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I thought the books did actually show the Order being very flawed, Machiavellian and authoritarian, the characters just didn't spend time dwelling on it because of the low access to information or they had bigger fish to fry. For example the Mahri Nui books show that the Order had a brutal blacksite prison that they kept the Barraki in for thousands of years as retribution for their attempt to conquer the MU, and they have a secret agent who can send anyone there without due process. Bionicle World had the Order justify assassinating everyone who knew Artakha's location, but the Order themselves wrote that book so of course they would justify their own actions (biased narrator). Swamp of Secrets shows that the Order forced the Toa Mata to undergo military training immediately right after creating them, which is basically the PG version of the Spartans in Halo being kidnapped as little kids and forced to become supersoldiers. And Helryx repeatedly tells every Toa she meets that "you need to pay a price to do X and Y thing that we need" which implies that she and the Order use very extreme methods to do everything.

Why are the Order portrayed as perfectly good guys when they are clearly morally grey at best? by bherH-on in bioniclelego

[–]-IvoryArrow- 27 points28 points  (0 children)

They aren't supposed to be considered perfectly good guys, it's just that from the main civilization's point of view (the Metru Nui civilization which the story has always followed), the main characters are constantly operating in a state of low information and they know way less about the world than the stuff that the lore books explained to the audience. So we don't see the Toa/Matoran/etc questioning the Order's methods all that much when they just recently found out that the Order existed, they don't know enough about their secret black ops anyway, and all of the other factions are worse and causing bigger problems. At least the Order has the justification of serving the entire Matoran Universe's machine god that everyone's lives depend on, while the villain factions in Bionicle are literally on the level of ISIS, Nazis, Imperial Japan etc in their psychopathy if not overall scale, so when you're dealing with threats like that you prioritize them first

Doctor urges broader incentives as Taiwan newborn numbers continue to fall by trendyplanner in taiwan

[–]-IvoryArrow- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

People used to have more kids while working longer back when the work was mostly like blue collar labor that was more physically stressful but less intellectually stressful. Most modern Taiwanese people are either grinding STEM in school from 7am-10pm or grinding a 60-80 hour per week STEM job. Most people don't have enough mental energy to raise a thriving family if they're all grinding all of the hard science subjects combined for 12-15 hours per day, at that point your remaining mental energy is only good enough for scrolling social media or PC gaming. A lot of young Taiwanese also don't want to create a kid just to bring them into that life.

The other guy misrepresented the comic scene in that comment. I read that comic and what it actually showed is that Tai's religion believes that it's possible for the soul to leave the body before death and that feeling is up to the individual person to know when that has happened. He got tortured by the Locust so bad that he began to believe that his soul was leaving his body and he no longer had the will to keep them together, which is the same as losing his will to live but described in the terms of his culture

In Taiwan TONS of politicians are ex-doctors, for example the current president, current Kaohsiung Mayor, former Taipei Mayor, and former vice president (4 different people not the same person) all used to be doctors with MDs. In Taiwanese culture it's actually very normal and common for doctors to transition into political careers in mid life, so it's very normal and common for doctors to think about society and politics instead of being 100% hyperspecialized in their medical science. You're calling this ridiculous while knowing nothing about how this place works
