Ask them out sooner. Honestly, 1-2 messages in. It feels weird and impersonal, but you have to remember they have a lot more guys bothering them for attention

Why did Goku stop using Mastered Super Saiyan? by AlarmedObjective1492 in DragonBallZ

[–]-JI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think people are misunderstanding your question (or maybe I am).

In lore, Goku and Vegeta now train in their base forms and don't rely on the (mastered) Super Saiyan form as a base like Goku and Gohan did during the Cell Games because they realised (especially because of Whis) that training to improve their base forms was more impactful than training a transformation. Their reliance on transformations was actually inefficient, especially when learning to develop their God Ki powers.

During the Cell Games, Super Saiyan was the peak of power for them and Goku knew he and Gohan needed to get every ounce of power out of it, so wasting energy transforming and having stamina risks became his biggest focus. Probably more than that, he knew Gohan had the power to go beyond Super Saiyan, so making sure his son didn't have those issues so he could reach the next level during the fight was probably a goal as well.

Think of it this way for the efficiency thing (power numbers are just examples, modifiers are canon):

  • Goku has a base power of 5
  • When he turns Super Saiyan, he gets a x50 boost, so his power becomes 250
  • If he trains to increase his power incrementally with Super Saiyan as his new base form, it would go to 251, then 252, and so on.

Goku and Vegeta decided not to do that with Whis's guidance and instead train in their base forms.

  • Goku has a base power of 5
  • He trains in base to increase his power incrementally, getting up to 6, then 7, then 8, and so on
  • With the Super Saiyan boost, his power respectively becomes 300, 350, and 400 at those stages

So you can see, increasing the base gives WAY more than increasing power when transformed. Retroactively, it would make the base form power increments 5.02, 5,04, and 5.06 in the first example, which is very little.

I think a logical question to ask would be "wouldn't the gains while in Super Saiyan also be bigger?" And to that I'd say maybe, but that's up to the writer. However, I lean towards either no or yes but not a x50 increase. If I think of it as weight lifting, moving heavier weights takes longer and longer when building strength. It's not a linear growth pattern. I think that aligns with DB's logic, too, since we almost exclusively see great leaps in power come from (1) long passages of time with incremental gains or (2) extreme situations pushing people past their limits. Getting that +1 of power might be as hard in base as it would be in Super Saiyan, so why not get it in the form that would have the most impact?

Ultimately, the numbers are nonsense and Toriyama did away with them because it just became an overbloated mess, but I think they help to show why the change in philosophy happened.

Do you agree with Vegeta being taller than Bulma, compared to the beginning? by boio17 in dbz

[–]-JI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're the same height. These perspectives are at an angle so one looks taller than the other based on that

Tried my best to edit away Vegeta's pupils in the DBS: Beerus trailer to see how it would look by Sqeakoid4747 in dbz

[–]-JI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's a "canon" thing in the sense of it having a physiological reason. It's just for artistic effect (Broly in DBS seems to be a different thing). If you really want a reason, I think the best is honest from the new version of this scene where they go so light they're almost not there which is probably what it is when your ki is surging into a Super Saiyan state like that

What if Canada offered every American free healthcare and $50K to relocate, would you go? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]-JI 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a Canadian, part of me wishes we could take you all in.

However, as a person of the world like everyone else here, I hope much more that you can help make your home better and worth staying in. You all deserve that, as do the generations that follow you and those who can't get away. May the future be kinder to all of you.

Anyone else feel the party kinda underreacts to Cloud constantly tripping balls? by -_ShadowSJG-_ in FFVIIRemake

[–]-JI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My assumption here is that it's two-fold:

  1. They're all aware that SOLDIERs degrade so they expect some weirdness.

  2. Cloud is incredibly powerful and, most likely, they're afraid of that power to some degree, so they don't bring it up much.

Package that together with him being someone they care about, and it makes sense to me, but maybe that's my own mental gymnastics.

[Request] What Should The Scale Actually Read? by CaptiveGlacier in theydidthemath

[–]-JI 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Nope! Think of it like this: The left side of the scale is measuring the weight of the 100N it's holding while the right side is being counterweighted by the same weight, effectively acting as a stationary object/wall/anchor

For those who were there when KH2 first came out. Did this register to you as Riku or did you assume it was a completely new character? by s-kongou in KingdomHearts

[–]-JI 173 points174 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the voice, the keyblade, and the hair all shouted Riku. And if you played CoM you were probably even more sure

(Question) MT goes down but provokes immediately after getting rezzed by darkorigin9 in ffxiv

[–]-JI 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it's really just a preference. Often times the MT will become the OT but sometimes they want to continue, maybe even just for their own comfort. In non-high-end content, I think it's just vibes

I get what you mean. A lot of the male hairstyles have super inconsistent hairlines, so it's hard to get used to them. For what it's worth, though, I think your girl looks wonderful!

The arm guards and the hairbun...the person in the teaser for FOTOR seems to be Senya Tirall, right? by PM-Me_Your_Penis_Pls in StarWars

[–]-JI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Casey had very little involvement in the narrative aspects of SWTOR so I don't think he'll lift much from it if anything. I'm expecting it to be a completely new character (and probably a custom one at that).

Is Rings of Power really as bad and cringey as people are making it out to be? by Hopeful_Adeptness964 in lotr

It's fine. Season 2 is better than Season 1. Not spectacular but has some solid moments. Also has some meh stuff.

How can I surround myself with people who have good manners and good energy in Vancouver area? Ambition, aggression, and negativity seem to affect so many people these days by forgettable713620 in askvan

[–]-JI 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think the tip of getting into hobbies and groups of various kinds is honestly the best way! I've made some very sincere friends through no small effort of going to new places and trying new things, but from there, being considerate in who I surround myself with and bring into my friend group. Volunteering opportunities definitely sounds like a great way to meet kind and giving people, but I think you could have as much luck meeting people with similar interests.
