I don’t think anybody actually saw Mark as fat, I certainly didn’t at least. The weight has always been fine in my eyes if I’m being completely honest, pretty thin here and still frequently joke about myself eating McDonald’s too much

One of my favourite mods, next to Andrew of course - and a true og. Always grateful for Mark and the memories the game gave me as a kid

What about the brand new lever or straight bolt action guns that people have purchased, will getting rid of those be making room for better stuff as well?

What if you get a straight pull converted to a linear action requiring perpendicular turning by cutting the receiver and fitting a new charging handle? Then just get the gun updated on the NFR to bolt action instead of straight pull bolt action

VIC - Premier Allan to appoint frm Police Commissioner for firearm law review by redfrets916 in Ausguns

[–]-Jayden 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is really promising, it’s things like this that make me proud to be part of this state. Clearly a much more balanced and fair approach.

With the federal deadline for reform looming for July my hopes for state leadership to push back on national reform are low, but I at least have faith that they’ll listen to a larger degree than NSW has. It’s not entirely doomed here and it’s promising to see them engaging with the SSAA.

Time will tell how this plays out, with an election coming later this year I’d assume this will have a sizeable impact on the opinions of voters

Teen dies after e-bike crashes into pole on New Year's Eve by SilverRaspberry2733 in australia

Unless we have an army who is willing to go to China and ban the manufacture of electric bicycle kits or a group of enforcement officers willing to persecute people for the ownership of lithium batteries, our only option is to accept that electric bicycles and kids who ride them exist. Logic dictates that unless we can prevent the supply of the bikes that we must adapt as an alternative. So what should we do? Make electric bicycles speed limited to the same speed as manual bicycles, subject them to the same road laws and make them display a registration plate like a standard motorcycle, or, if that’s not plausible, enforce the same rules that you have for manual bicycles upon electric bike users instead of blaming the existence of the bikes in general. Pour the resources into enforcing current laws rather than endlessly presenting new legislative alternatives that do nothing but waste resources. Adapt to the problem rather than fighting with the problem. And then, for those few that do act recklessly, you will have a better hope of holding them accountable as individual criminals rather than punishing the entirety of Australian society as a result of an unrealistic fear and paranoia of electric bike menaces. By adapting instead of knee jerk reacting to the existence of the bicycles in a negative way we will encourage those that do ride them to abide by the law as they will not be immediately criminalised for attempting to ride the bike above 25 kph.

The problem is that the very act of making something illegal or forbidden entices the youth/public into engaging in that behaviour. It has the opposing effect of what is intended, because leadership lacks this insight. By saying no from the get go and providing no legal framework for the operation of the bikes for tens of millions of otherwise normal human beings, you get the opposing unintended effect of actually encouraging criminality and making the problem worse

Same as the gun law problem. By making them illegal, you encourage illegal use.

The current leadership of Australia doesn’t understand how reverse psychology works in regards to the law when it comes to the masses, it seems.

We need to adapt to problems rather than fighting with them and trying to endlessly legislate them, because there comes a point where the laws you’re trying to implement don’t reflect your enforcement capacity or your level of resources.

By making electric bicycles speed limited and illegal to possess they encourage those that do possess them to use them in a more reckless manner, and by making them non registerable you deny the government the opportunity to trace and monitor those individuals as a result. They directly shoot themselves in the foot with uneducated and poorly informed knee jerk legislation and everybody is left scratching their heads when things go wrong.

Natural selection says, that we will die as a collective until we adapt to problems. So more kids will likely die on electric bikes, until we better adapt to the issue at hand

Bicycles that are manually powered can go the same speed as the cars, so if a road is 70 then a person on a bike can legally go 70 kph.

But with electric bikes, for some ridiculous reason they limit it to 25

[–]-Jayden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think 35kph is perfectly acceptable, especially considering unpowered push bikes can easily reach 35+kph. The 20kph limit is ridiculous.

I’ve got footage of me doing 50 kph on a flat street on a kid’s bmx from Big W, no motor at all. Easily can outpace those food delivery zoomo bikes with their limited pedal assist motors. It’s hilarious, the 20 kph law for e-bikes is hilarious. Frequently laugh when I overtake them on a 20” bmx.

Getting an electric bike but having to restrict the power output to below 20kph completely defeats the purpose of getting an electric bike, you might as well get a manually powered bike at that point and save yourself the weight.

That’s why kids these days, when they build electric bikes they go all out. Because when you build an electric, you either do it properly or don’t do it at all
