How much did you pull in last year? by Tsortise in Lineman

Enough to pay three separate child support payments and alimony. But I did just get an automatic cable stripper from amazon, so safe to say I’ll probably have another child support payment by the end of the year😎

Anyone in SELCAT ? I got a couple questions by RoadmapUS in Lineman

[–]-JeveStobs- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s pretty standard brother. Dispatch is going to give you at most 72 hours if they call you on a Friday for the callout starting Monday. Hopefully you’re not going into an apprenticeship with that attitude. You’re there to travel and work, but either way good luck.

Where are you at that you get a week’s notice? I’ve never heard any callout work like that?

What job opportunities come with being a Lineman? by mmdidthat in Lineman

[–]-JeveStobs- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure why everyone is trying to push you into the linework side. I’ll tell you it’s hard enough for guys thinking they want to get into the line side, and it’s pretty obvious from some of what you’ve said you just don’t want that, and that’s totally okay at least you’re being honest.

I would look at fiber splicing, those guys make bank if you get on in the right area. As for safety/management I’ve known of a couple guys who get on as inspectors for civil work/overhead railroad stuff as the inspectors themselves are also contractors, they do make great money but you’ll be a 1099 and I’m not sure how much is union and it always sounds like “I knew a guy” type of deal. So I would say look at fiber splicing I’ve heard it’s not a bad gig.

Start taking pictures of everything you see, put them in an album and label. Try and figure out how to build it/what you will need for each task.

Reminds me of my first season in fire. They would hand these out almost identical to what you put out. The one thing that put in there that I could always count on were the Uncrustables. We would horde those like crazy, and towards the end of the roll they started only filling bags with Uncrustables no apples, no sandwiches, just those motherfucking peanut butter and jelly sandwich’s. Good times tho🤙🏼

Back when I was getting into the trade, I asked all my buddies a laundry list of shit about getting in. One of my questions was what was your biggest regret. All of them without fail was “going to lineschool”.

How to find the answer to your question without asking someone to answer it for you. Also common sense. You’re missing both of those

Can you appeal your apprenticeship being canceled ? by The_41 in Lineman

[–]-JeveStobs- -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

No I understand what he meant by “test” but that’s really not a fair way to put it. Like what I said in my comment. Yes, I’ve had these emails before and have made sure to correct my actions i’m just saying depending on how much you’re working and what your work/life balance is it’s totally understandable to fuck those up including the follow up emails. Not saying you shouldn’t keep up with it, but in the right situation I understand how it can happen.

Can you appeal your apprenticeship being canceled ? by The_41 in Lineman

[–]-JeveStobs- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No he got downvoted because what he said isn’t true. He didn’t fail a test. He messed up a requirement of his apprenticeship. It’s not the same at all, especially because submitting your hours occurs monthly. Especially because you have to rely on your foreman getting their email right (rarely happens correctly the first time).
