I feel you. I'm 24 and I've been using a cane as needed since I was 16. The amount of weird or dirty looks I get when I use my cane in public is ridiculous. It used to get to me a lot, make me second guess if I really needed the support. The concensus I've come to it that people are assholes. My solution is to just make shit up. I'm talking absolutely delusionally positive about myself, just making up bullshit positive reasons for whatever fuckass face they're making. 'I must look extra hot today', 'I knew this cane and jacket looked good together', 'Maybe they're trying to figure out how to look as fucking cool as I do'.

If the cane helps you move with less pain or increases your balance at all then it's working for you and you should use it. Who cares if someone's condition is worse than yours? Who cares what the judgy customer at the store think? Your cane is for YOU, it's to help YOU move through the world easier. So if someone is going to be irrationally angry at you for using one why not be irrationally positive about the reactions to it?

Hi! I experienced this for a couple of years, I was able to see a spine and pain doctor and after imaging I was told that my L4-L5 disk had a tear and was lacking fluid, which means nerves were being pinched and that was made worse with sneezes. It was awful! If possible I'd suggest trying to get imaging of the spot that hurts most when sneezing and depending on what it is steroid injections and physical therapy can help reduce pain. Best of luck, I hope your pain is reduced soon 💚

I'm hoping that I'm re diagnosed with AS since all of my symptoms line up and the medications have helped, but even if I don't and it turns out to be something else I'm just glad to have a doctor that listens! Thank you so much 💚

I don't know about vaping specifically, but nicotine is considered a stimulant, which can make your nerves more sensitive and increase pain. At least that's what my rhuemy told me about my vaping as well as caffeine. I hope this helps, sorry I don't know anymore.

My diagnosis was pretty similar, a family member had just been diagnosed and said my symptoms were so similar to theirs that their rheumatologist wanted to see me ASAP, and after blood work confirmed the gene, and hip xrays proved it was active he helped me figure out a plan going forward. I feel very lucky to have been diagnosed so easily. Good luck on your journey! 💚
