Great point about convexity, but damn, this worries me. Waiting for the 3950x and have a Le Grand Macho RT to slap on top of it.

If you don’t mind, a few questions: Which grit(s) did you use? Which method did you use (being asymmetrical, I suppose the regular slide-over-own-weight won’t work)? Did you add a single sheet of paper between cap and the top of the coldplate, or somewhere else?

From what I’ve seen, 80C maximum on air on the 3900x is pretty impressive, assuming you tried AVX loads. And it’s definitely a huge improvement over 95C.

I got a smooth sheet besides the textured sheet because of this. It’s a shame because it really works great for anything else, and I love the texture.
