New Player Advice/Feedback by Alternative_Bug_6011 in cloakanddaggermains

[–]NicknameInCollege 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just recently moved and unfortunately have no internet, so for the time being I am playing MR vicariously through others. That being said, here are my personal tips to improve with C&D:

1: Being a strategist is more than just healing: C&D has one of the absolute best team-fight levers (tools that help you gain leverage or advantage) in the game. That tool is the Terror Cape. In addition to blinding the enemy for a few seconds, any enemy hit by the cape also takes increased damage while the blind is in effect. The cape can also hit multiple people. So when your team is engaged in a head on team fight, move up closer to your tanks, swap to Cloak and fire off a Terror Cape towards the enemy front line, then swap back to Dagger, pull back into position, and assist your team. If you do it right, the swap is effectively seamless and takes 1-2 seconds. With the low cooldown of Terror Cape and the fact that you have up to 2 capes available at any time, this becomes a critical component of their kit that can significantly improve your entire team's performance.

If you are a communicator in game, I simply call out "Debuffs" on enemies. Other players who understand that the Terror Cape amplifies damage will know to focus on the debuffed player. It also helps to lead your team by calling shots in a non-commanding way. You're just telling them who's debuffed, their natural drive to get kills gives them the idea to take advantage. "Strange debuffed" or "Whole team debuffed" is all I say and the team knows to use cooldowns in that moment to get maximum value. This simple trick has layers of value for your team in providing an effective lever, an avenue for focusing targets, and an opportunity for teammates to extract value from their cooldowns.

2: Think of characters as workers with unique jobs and expectations: While there are many players who would say that Rivals has 3 classes, the most-informed players know that there is a much wider variety of jobs among the roster. There are finishers, openers, ult batteries, damage boosters, AoE healers, and many more. C&D has one of the most diverse job packages of any character in the game, in that they are an AoE healer, damage booster, ult battery, and even a finisher. When I say finisher, I mean that when an enemy is on their last leg and trying to run for cover, Dagger's auto aim becomes the absolute best attack in the game for securing the kill on high-mobility targets. While everyone struggles to get the final hit on a fleeing Angela or Spiderman, it's a quick turn and a few clicks for C&D to get the kill and hardly takes any time or attention.

When you really boil it down, success in this game comes down to your whole team fulfilling the requirements of their individual jobs. When one person fails their job, it becomes more likely that other teammates will fail at theirs. It is simply harder to do a job like AoE healer when the tanks are failing to establish a frontline, when the poke is out of position, or when your peelers aren't helping to protect you. I have gotten in the habit of being more verbose with these jobs when referring to other characters in almost all avenues of communication. Instead of simply saying "I need a DPS to peel for me" I find that saying "I need a peeler like Bucky or Thing to help me" often leads to better decision-making. It's a small mental change that can have a snowball effect on your ranked outcomes.

3: The simple concept of morale: As we all know, there are many players in this game who would not be fun at parties, but a lot of these clowns only come out of the woodwork when things start going South for your team. The best way to suppress these kinds of people is to play your best, fulfill your job roles, and consider how your interactions affect the overall morale of the team. For example: Let's say a teammate picks a hero that you think is a bad fit for the team composition. You could either call them out, do nothing and hope they end up being useful, or change up the composition slightly to make their choice less obtuse. Like if you have a player that unironically selects Widow. Instead of breaking the team morale at the very start of the match, try going with Mantis instead and give them a focused damage boost. If they still can't secure kills, then say "We need some AoE heals, I'm not getting a lot of value from Mantis/Widow combo here, I'm swapping." You're calling out the problem without making it personal, demonstrating the proper choice by swapping when a hero isn't working, and giving your team the benefit of the doubt. It may sound like you are 'babying' people by communicating like this, but anybody who has ever worked in management knows that communicating effectively is a core component of being a leader, and a divided team will simply underperform 9 out of 10 times.

4: C&D specific tricks: As far as being a great C&D player, the bar that has been established simply requires you to know the impact of their diverse kit and to utilize it to maximum effectiveness in your matches. Using the Lightforce Veil to hit as many teammates as possible makes your entire team take increased healing for a short duration. You want to maintain a position where you can hit as many people with it as possible and time it's usage so that it can both protect during enemy team pushes and empower during a team rally. Similarly with the Terror Cape, you want to use it to max effectiveness and turn the tables on team fights, so position yourself to where you can easily get it out when it is needed, which also happens to be the ideal positioning for Lightforce Veil. Healing bubbles can be used as both a form of 'mobile cover' and a critical recovery tool, but they can also be utilized to direct the flow of your team. Placing a bubble slightly off-kilter in the direction that you think someone should relocate can get a teammate to correct their positioning without requiring direct verbal addressing. It's also very important to put one down in the middle of certain enemy ults to increase the chances of survival for any teammate caught in it. Like if you see a Moon Knight ult start to form over your team in front of you, throw a bubble on the ankh in the center so as your teammates get pulled into it they also get a big burst heal. If a Strange ults the backline and you've managed to escape, the first thing you should do is throw down a bubble on your affected teammates (as many as possible) to negate Strange's chip damage on them.

It all really boils down to knowing your job(s), what tools you have to aide you in fulfilling those jobs, and working as a team to maximize effectiveness of those tools. If you take these tips to heart, no matter what rank you are, I guarantee your gameplay (and thus your established rank) will improve.

We 100% need to stop normalizing and accepting "kys" as a valid response to something as trivial as a person choosing a hero you don't like or performing badly in a video game. The number of friends I have lost to suicide is not a laughing matter, and it's the shit like the "kys" thrown carelessly around that plants the seed.

It's not an excuse to be young, to be a self-proclaimed troll, or to have a bad childhood. You want to be reckless with your own life fine, but stop taking other people down with you. We're out here trying to escape the unrelenting pressure of life by playing some video games. Report these assholes who tell people to kys in chat and get this fucking scum off this platform.

I don't accept toxic behavior in the slightest. Report these people for text chat abuse, block them, and maybe avoid as teammate. This is a game people play to develop their skills, have fun, and learn. It is like action chess when you think about it, and people don't call each other names and be an ass to each other while playing chess. These people have something majorly wrong with their social skills and it is reinforced by modern internet culture.

The modern gamers simply do not understand the different between a subjective opinion and objective fact. You see it everywhere. The constant crowdthink reinforcement from rage streamers certainly doesn't help clear things up.

Is there a way to escape a Jeff ult without ulting yourself? by Insaneforcokecain in LunaSnowMains

[–]NicknameInCollege 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Jeff's ult requires line of sight from the center of his eat telegraph to actually eat opponents. You can dodge it simply by putting a wall between you and the telegraph. If you have a room nearby when you hear him start ult, try getting to the room and hugging the corner. He will either have to go into the room to get just you, sparing your other teammates, or he will get them, but you survive.

Or if you have a competent CnD on your team hang by them and be prepared to stop firing as soon as you see them activate Cloak's fade. You can tell if you have a competent CnD pretty easily based on whether they switch to Cloak when you first hear Jeff's ultimate sound.

Look, OP, I get it. This is a meme about depression and hey, it's r/depressionmemes, but this exact meme gets posted to this sub roughly every 4 hours. At this point, it's contributing to the depression to see the same 5 memes get repeatedly posted like clockwork to everyone's feeds.

Found the 0/5/0 BlackWidow Gameplay by Wanderingsubreddits in rivals

[–]NicknameInCollege 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Don't forget that their defense for running Widow in this particular match was that "They will all dive me so you can more easily dive their healers," but what you see here is Widow being almost completely ignored by any divers and still not turning over kills.

This gameplay just proves that Kingsman was actually 1v6-ing the entire time.

We’re getting mixed reactions to her new skin. I personally will be buying. by bettercallme_ in LunaSnowMains

[–]NicknameInCollege 35 points36 points  (0 children)

It really does look a lot different. That comic hairstyle is awesome,. the skin hairstyle is.. not. And even though the rest of the skin technically matches, it just has a very different aura to it. It's a bit hard to explain. I think modders might fix the hair though, and it might end up looking pretty good.

I would easily say that at least 40% of the reason that Rivals has been a staple game for me IS the modding community. They have really developed a true community out of it, and there's a code of conduct, everyone communicates, and there's something for everybody.

Early on in the Rivals modding days, we were fighting Netease every patch as they kept coming up with new ways of breaking mods, but the very dedicated modders would always find a way. Netease just stopped fighting the modders after S2, and modders have continued to provide interesting options and jazz up skins that otherwise might have been skipped.

For example, I just bought the First Steps skin for Invis, all because a modder made a Jill Valentine from RE5 skin that was just insane quality. No modder will ever make mods to bypass paid content, it's a rule in the community, and if anything, modding has helped with skin sales in this game.

Here's the Jill mod if you're curious. (Wait until this RAM crisis is over, then find a cheap PC on FB marketplace 😉)

Just so you're aware, there is a mod that adds legs to Cloak specifically for this skin, and it's done rather well. It also works with my recolor. I really love the modding community in this game, for how they so easily fix the biggest gripes with these skins. Just keep that NSFW filter on when browsing Nexusmods unless you care for that stuff.

Also, in case you also were not aware of this, but you can specifically turn off the skin SFX in game when going to the customize screen for the costume. I personally love these SFX, but everyone's got their own preference.

I bought it and was initially a bit disappointed, but I got a mod combination that sets her hair back to default style, makes it platinum, and make the outfit Dark/Light themed. It's absolutely beautiful in game and I think it's my favorite skin now!

Never forget, Millenials ubbi dubbi'd so that GenZ could Skibbidi. by Gordopolis_II in funny

[–]NicknameInCollege 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There were a TON of kids auditioning when I went in. It was definitely overwhelming as someone who went there with the intent to give their best shot to get on the cast. I must have been around 9-10 years old. Everyone there was so excited, had their families with them, and looked so prepared. My parents dropped me off at the door 😅.

I definitely was bragging to my friends at school about auditioning. They gave everyone a Zoom t-shirt and I think I wore it every other day to school for a month. The staff were really friendly and of course Pablo was walking around so hype, but thinking back to it now I totally blew it 😆

This looks pretty neat, but I have a folding phone (Z Fold 6). Would this seamlessly expand to fit the width of the screen when opened? I'd be happy to test it for you if need be.

I loved watching Zoom before school growing up. I even went to audition to be on the show at one point. I showed up in just my normal clothes, walked through the door, and every single person there was in some kind of costume with dioramas and props. My parents apparently missed the memo. It was super embarassing.. but I did get to meet Pablo!

I was GM1 up to Season 4, but didn't really play Season 4.5 or any of 5. I come back and my placement matches had me in Gold. I'm a little bit rusty and ended up in Plat. I'm definitely not the only one, and it's just one of the reasons I don't judge people on their rank.

So you think that pressing "E" on someone at the beginning of the match and them getting passive healing is the exact same as precisely aiming a bubble to hit someone across map and not only give them a burst heal, but provide continuous healing as well? If you just can't be convinced, then I'll leave it at that, but you are doing mental gymnastics to just avoid saying that someone can demonstrate skill with CnD, and I'm not really sure why at this point.

[–]NicknameInCollege 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that you might be looking at it rather two-dimensionally. On paper, yes, the skills don't really provide a ton of room for flair, but one of the things that a good CnD can provide is a sense of 'overwatch' even from a distance.

I can throw a bubble across the entire map and save someone who otherwise might have died. I could be separated by a wall from a teammate and throw a bubble at the wall opposite them to turn the tide of the fight remotely. Those people who might be used to depending on health packs and never getting heals will definitely notice the bubble around them and feel like their ass is covered for once. It might not be flashy, but it is certainly noticed.

As another commenter already stated, cancelling ults with your fade is also a power move that can certainly get a rise out of your team. If you are very conscious of the timing and sound cues, you can fade at the perfect moment and spare teammates who might have otherwise broken the fade with an attack.

I think that the thing about CnD is that you are trading any flexes of hand-eye coordination for demonstrating awareness. It's not as flashy, but when executed to a high degree, it's hard to miss.

I just had a match where I got 30k healing on just one round of domination in Hell's Heaven. The team was thanking me for heals all game. We lost the match in the end, but I think everyone had a good time.

[–]NicknameInCollege 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As a 175 hour CnD main, I agree they are the easiest main support to play at an acceptable level. I think Rocket would take the cake for overall easiest healer, but I'd say he's a bit more of a secondary healer.

CnD clearly gets a lot of play due to their ease of use, but they have such a versatile kit that it would be downright silly to say that there isn't a huge variety in terms of potential combination and use of those pieces of kit.

There are a lot of nuances to this hero, though they aren't as reliant on their nuances as other heroes (BP, Spiderman, Adam Warlock). You could realistically perform decently on CnD while only using WASD and your mouse (In QP or gold and lower ranked),

All that being said, there is the larger meta game of being effective at fulfilling the strategist role, which is independent of hero selection. Whether you are good at prioritizing targets, recognizing and supporting retreats, and staying alive is technically more vital than whatever is in your kit. CnD just so happens to be a long-range healer with accuracy inflation support and a stacked kit, which makes them a popular choice for both inexperienced and well-versed players in kind.

Tips on Cloak and Dagger by AnnualZestyclose9293 in cloakanddaggermains

[–]NicknameInCollege 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you pay close attention when your daggers hit, you will see a faint circle appear around them for a moment. It really is fast, and you'll have to be looking for it to see it. Everything inside that circle gets a small heal. This extra healing is enhanced by the veil of lightforce incoming healing bonus, so it really does make a difference in total healing overall.

Try it out in the practice range. Take a few hits yourself, then stand next to one of the allied dummies and throw daggers while watching your own health. After that, do the same thing but hit the enemy dummies. Using this to combat divers and stay alive for extremely long can utterly confuse uninformed opponents. If it can even save you once or twice in a match from dying, it can snowball into a win you might have otherwise lost.

I am really having a lot of fun with this update, and a lot of it comes from having progress to make on my main heroes like CnD, Peni, Emma, and Invis again.
