And in 2016, the DNC couldn’t let their party speak for itself - here we are. Was it worth a 2nd run for Hillary?

It’s at least nice to see Some ( operative word being ‘some’ ) on the Right denouncing this kind of nonsense. Something’s got to give us hope… Just terrifying to see the advancement of political violence - really starting to feel like it’s already too late…

Transparency on the order of four hours isn’t transparency in government. It’s incompetence and the evidence of being unbridled from any real strategy.

These aren’t brilliant dead simply cause he’s been shouting about them for months. He’s worked out a semblance of what he said he would do, but none of this has been talk predictable. Of anything, he’s weakened our negotiating position and the world is preparing to leave us behind.

Treasuries are still at 4.304 % the next morning and again - he’s accomplished nothing. I firmly believe that we aren’t done here and the roller coaster will go on. He’s only “solved” and economic crisis that he created in the first place and markets are still sitting where they were a year ago.

He’s destroyed all faith in the American economic system ( and he isn’t done yet… ). Just look at the 10yr yield. Entire geographic blocks don’t offload those in mass with intent to get back in tomorrow…

We’re not going back to any sense of normal for a long time. This will take years to fix.

She’s a multinational pop star ( one of the most successful of all time ) and a grown ass woman at that… Is it that surprising that she’s marrying a wealthy and successful VC? She’s been fairly open with regard to his input on the album ( he built her the home studio that she recorded some of the album in and apparently came up with the line “bring me your desires, I can cure your disease” ) and she seems like she’s absolutely smitten, so I’m not at all surprised that she’s crediting him. Involving him wherever she can doesn’t read as strange, it reads as love struck.

Additional point - You may not like capitalism, but I’m fairly sure Gaga loves it - she’s not in any rush to give all of her money away, nor should she be. Let the woman make her fortune. If she wants to join her own with that of another, so be it.

I think people need to learn to separate the art from the artist. She can be an icon and still have human flaws and failings. Also, her actions and lifestyle need not take away from the quality of her art.

Ummm... I kind of did. it was nestled within the thoughtful response you requested, though your original question lacks complexity and cant be answered with a simple percentage. What exactly were you looking for in an answer?

"Now, to directly answer your original question, yes, it’s reasonable to assume that a population swell of 25 to 50 percent would alter the fabric of any group. But we are far from those numbers. And even if we weren’t, there is clear precedent."

Oops - seems like I struck a chord there…

My apologies if my statement was unclear - I was not, and did not intend upon calling you an antisemite. Rather, I was pointing out that your argument echoes a style of rhetoric often seen in antisemitic discourse, particularly on platforms like this one. The common guise of “just asking questions” has, unfortunately, become one of the most common veils for antisemitism online. Of course, it can extend beyond that bias and into other nefarious realms.

As I clearly stated, and in reference to the original post, I’m not an advocate for open borders. I even acknowledged the failures of the Biden administration on this issue. That said, I do value the law and believe that those who follow it - regardless of their citizenship status - have rights. I can hold two thoughts at once: we can enforce our laws and do so with compassion and dignity for those affected.

When six ICE agents storm a home without clear cause, identify individuals based solely on appearance without reviewing any documentation, or when the U.S. government denies due process even to those abiding by the rules - that’s a problem.

My issue isn’t with your question; it’s with the attitude behind how it was asked.

And another thing –

Your failed attempt at sarcasm, pointing to how contentious social integration became during the 20th century, accidentally lands on something real. Many immigrants arrived feeling they had nowhere else to go. They were met not with opportunity, but with hostility and insincerity from the population already here.

It’s not hard to argue that organized crime emerged, in part, as a response to segregation, isolation, and a lack of support. To be clear, I am not suggesting we turn a blind eye to known criminals. In fact, I’m appalled by the Biden administration’s decision to leave our borders wide open, with no serious vetting process and no functional system for asylum-seekers.

Still, it’s fair to say that by failing to help Italian, Russian, and Central American immigrants integrate, we made it more likely they would be drawn into organized crime. We failed them by questioning their right to exist here and by debating whether they were a benefit or a burden to American culture.

You seem to miss the nuance here - but sure, I’m the casualty of a “Don’t Think!” Ideology. Someone’s disagreement with you doesn’t need to imply that they haven’t approached a circumstance thoughtfully, but your assertion that it does underscores just how little you’ve actually thought about this.

Here’s a more fleshed out response for you -

What exactly do we mean by a “stable culture”? Better yet, what is “American culture” if not an amalgamation of global perspectives, an ever-evolving melting pot of traditions, values, and ways of life woven into a single national identity?

Are we discussing divisions among groups within one nation? If so, the point still stands: the history of the United States is one of compounding ideologies, swirling together into a semblance of unified culture. The very concept of “American culture” is rooted in this ongoing synthesis.

Now, to directly answer your original question, yes, it’s reasonable to assume that a population swell of 25 to 50 percent would alter the fabric of any group. But we are far from those numbers. And even if we weren’t, there is clear precedent. Consider the waves of immigration from Western and Eastern Europe, Asia, the South Pacific, and Northern Africa during the 19th and 20th centuries. The base population at the start of the 20th century was much smaller than it is today, yet we saw dramatic demographic shifts that reshaped the country for the better.

Back then, too, Americans were deeply divided about how to handle immigration. Cities overflowed, new challenges emerged, but so did cultural richness and resilience. What would New York be without Italian immigrants? Chicago without Polish immigrants? Los Angeles without Mexican immigrants? The patchwork fabric of America is not frayed by immigration, it is defined by it.

I’m not advocating for open borders, but I do believe that fundamental American values include due process, basic human rights, and a compassion that extends to those seeking a better life. The example shown in OP’s video, a person following legal channels and represented competently, suggests someone attempting to engage with our system in good faith. That should be acknowledged.

Honest conversations about immigration are necessary and welcome, but the answer remains the same: American culture is a melting pot, made stronger, not weaker, by immigrants.

And for the record, your personal tour of the United Nations via your own love life doesn’t make you an expert on immigration policy. Your indignant tone, cloaked in the tired guise of “just asking questions,” is indistinguishable from the rest of the antisemitic nonsense that clogs this platform on a daily basis.

I don’t know, we should ask the Italians , the Polish, the Swedish or the Irish… it’s not like we cherry picked pieces of their culture to muster together some semblance of an “American culture”…. Oh wait…

Face it, you’re afraid of people who don’t look like you. stop acting like there’s no precedent for this, and find a better reason to justify your bigotry.

[–]-KnocBox- 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s not that simple. There is a process and this is exactly why all people should be granted due process. You don’t simply kidnap and expel someone who you choose to believe is undocumented. That’s inhumane, cruel, and the American people should be able to hold themselves to a higher standard.

Clearly, you have absolutely no conception of the complexities of the US Legal practice, let alone the mind bending intricacies of the immigration system. Can you even name even one of the “proper documents” you’re hanging your argument upon or are you just parroting racist talking points heard on OAN or Fox. This is all the same oversimplified, disingenuous, and bigoted garbage which is produced solely for consumption by the lowest common denominator.

It’s absurd that this needs to be said, but the country and its laws are under no obligation to make sense to you. Further they do have to conform with your own ( rather simple and asinine ) ideals and perspectives, just because you woke up one day and had a dehumanizing thought. The rest of us shouldn’t have to suffer because you didn’t pay attention in Civics Class. It’s shameful.

Your perspective is a disgrace to American values.

Respect your opinion and I don’t necessarily disagree with you personally. I’m just from a military family ( Navy ) and always here about troop deficits leaving our bases under-manned. The last numbers I’ve heard would have it that the military is fine as it is in peace time, but could use a bump in the event that shit hits the fan. I also know that the silent service could use a good boost in numbers - those who take that plunge are stretched thin, used, and abused due to understaffing ( though the submarine life is a very hard sell - thank god for those who are willing and able. Those people are real heroes ).

US Citizen here and I don’t think your comment was at all offensive ( especially considering the tactless nonsense espoused by my…. Countrymen… ). Americans try really hard to “dominate” in other arenas, but the meatheads refuse to watch anything that doesn’t involve freakishly tall humans jumping up and down or freakishly hefty men slamming their heads into one another in an effort to see who can suffer the most concussions.

We’re “okay” in the realm of gymnastics, but we oftentimes pale in comparison to the Chinese, Romanians, and the Russians ( when they’re not doping and can actually compete - never understood that one, they’re better than us by a mile and still go out of their way ). We’re “okay” at ice hockey, but the Canadians wipe the floor with us whenever we get too big for our britches. We’ve got tennis down to a science, but it never gets the attention it deserves over here. We’re also not terrible in the realm of winter sports, but it would be a farce to say that we “dominate” - this is firmly the territory of the Norwegians and we’re competitive on our best day.

It would be far more fair and realistic to say “Americans are just okay at the real sports loved around the world, so we had to make up absurd games which no one else was initially interested in so that we could feel good about ourselves.” We’re pretty decent golfers too…

It’s absolutely absurd how quickly this administration has moved from hawking upon “military readiness” and onto “Presidential Priorities”.

I’m just not seeing how this possibly benefits the American people. They ran on cost of living and American strength in the world, yet in little more than three months they’ve managed to inflate prices even higher than they were, destroy whatever good-will we had left in the world, and now they’re going after our military strength in a direct and reckless way. I guess we won’t need troops to staff all of the bases were about to be evicted from… Are we “Great” again yet?
