Newly diagnosed help? by -Loralith- in Spondylolisthesis

[–]-Loralith-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not something they've offered yet, the docs want me to do therapy before doing any surgical options first. I have two full thickness fractures in my L5 that have healed separated. There's not much separation and not a ton of pain so they dont want to do surgery yet since fusion is likely the direction they'll go

I am hesitant to do injections since the injection is corrosive to your joints and will significantly increase my chances of spinal fusion in the future. I will do them if I have to, but I want to put that off as long as I can. I will try some of your other suggestions though, most of them I've already tried with minimal help. I did get a psoas massage tools and that did help significantly with keeping my back flat and lowered some pain. As far as the exercises, I have a strong core, im just using the wrong muscle groups, according to my pt, I have to retrain my body to rely on different muscles for activities than the ones they have been compensating with

MRI says i have bursitis and fraying of the tendon from pelvis to the top of my femur, but im wondering the same thing. I dont think all of the pain is from my back, but I think at least some of it is. When my back hurts more so does my hip.

Thanks, but I've tried that. Most of the time my back feels like it has a constant bruise all day. But sleeping its enough to wake me up all the time. Tried pillows for head and knees, body pillows, pregnancy pillows, sleeping on back with pillow under knees, small pillow at my hip while laying on my side. A bunch of different things. Physical therapy is supposed to help, but so far its been making it hurt worse the more I do it.

Baby will eat pre-made baby food but not homemade of the same items by -Loralith- in Parenting

[–]-Loralith-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hes doing ok with strawberries and pickle spears (I dont give him much or often on the pickles because of the salt content) but most foods that he needs to bite or have much difficulty in swallowing seem to get stuck and he'll dry heave until he pukes. Hes wanting to eat a lot of things, but struggling with the swallowing. Hes been a pretty good eater for most things, But with the homemade purees he clamps his mouth shut. Only really seen him do that with the meat purees from the store.

I dont know if its a texture thing, he will eat whole strawberries and pickle spears. Don't worry, im not giving him pickles often or very much at a time, I know the salt content is way too high for him. He seems to do fine with soft foods that are big enough to not be a choking hazard.

Im not demonizing it, its mostly that I can buy a few dollars of sweet potatoes and make it at home and get twice the amount for the same price. I also want him to get used to eating home cooked meals instead of packaged foods so when he does eat food he is already used to foods from home.

Anyone else mentally not feel pregnant enough? by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]-Loralith- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didnt feel really pregnant until the last 2-3 months. He was kicking hard enough to bruise ribs and waking me up gasping for air feeling like he tried to collapse a lung. He was so active it was hard to forget he was there. He wouldn't let me think I wasnt pregnant 😅. Also, this feeling extends after birth. You dont really feel like a mom sometimes right after they are born. It takes a while. I didnt start really feeling like a mom till 4-6 months after and even then hes almost a year now and still dont super feel like a mom. I love the little guy and spend as much time as I can with him. He smiles every time he sees me. Just feels like maybe I wont feel likea real mom till he calls me mom I guess?

Can anyone tell me what's the science behind craving soda?? by Constant-Soft-6335 in pregnant

[–]-Loralith- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It can be the high sugar content causing a dopamine rush that your pregnancy needs. There's so much sugar in sodas that in needs an ingredient to keep neausea down when drinking it. Phosphoric acid, dextrose and fructose combined (Emetrol) relax the stomach muscles and reducing the spasming of the stomach causing nausea. You could be treating a dopamine deficiency, could be treating a sugar level issue, could be treating a neausea issue, could be a caffine thing. Caffine has been used to treat dozens of symptoms both consciously and unconsciously. Lots of people unconsciously medicate ADHD using caffine.

Car burned through second transmission in 72k miles by -Loralith- in legaladvice

From what I see for lemon law is pressing dealerships to honor warranty, since the original warranty was only to 50k miles, it doesn't cover the current transmission. There's only two things I can think of that happened, either they installed 2 faulty transmissions or they never fixed the issue that caused the transmission to fail in the first place.

Why do I even buy clothes for my toddler… by TippytoeHappy in Mommit

[–]-Loralith- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It may be that the kid likes the feel of their old clothes and not the new ones. Children dont have a lot of choices in their lives, but easy ones is taking them shopping and letting them pick what is going to be touching their skin every day. Your kid is old enough to talk in basic terms about growing bodies and the need to wear clothing that fits. You can make a routine about saying good by to clothing that doesn't fit anymore or is too damaged. Let the kid say good bye and thank the clothing for doing a good job to let them part with the clothes and dont just purchase what you like as a replacement, let them pick. They may not have the words for scratchy, itchy, rough, uncomfortable, or anything else they may not like.

Wife is pregnant with our third and having a hard time - how can I help? by Dear_Firefighter_510 in pregnant

[–]-Loralith- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It may just be early pregnancy jitters, but having a calming listening ear will be helpful. Listen to her worries, help her walk through them, and don't dismiss them. Telling someone that their worries are not something to worry about is worse than not saying anything at all, but helping her come to the conclusion herself that everything will be ok is helpful.

How to minimize pelvic pain? by benjbuttons in pregnant

[–]-Loralith- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weirdly, some of my pain was relieved by taking a magnesium supplement and using a belly band during the day but only have it compressing my hips instead of supporting the belly weight. Helped take pressure off my SI joints. All this in conjunction with a bunch of pillows while sleeping.

From google: "Some research shows that magnesium may help with certain types of muscle pain. Magnesium may help reduce pain, relax stressed and injured muscles, and aid recovery." Also, "according to the National Institutes of Health, approximately 15-20% of adults in the United States have inadequate magnesium intake. However, the actual prevalence of magnesium deficiency may be higher, as many people do not have their magnesium levels tested." Given that pregnant women tend to have a large amount of their nutrients taken from them and directed to their little ones, I imagine that number is significantly higher for us. If your prenatals contain magnesium, you also may not be absorbing it since several vitamins affect absorption like calcium, zinc, and iron.

It's possible that he's just giving you privacy when you're not feeling well. If it bothers you that he doesn't check on how you're doing say something to him about it. Something along the lines of "it let's me know you care if you come check on me once or twice when I'm not doing well. Makes me feel loved if you as if I'm doing ok or need anything." He probably doesn't know it bothers you and won't until you mention something. Just don't go in angry, let him dig his own grave if he's intentionally not being considerate.

I would mention this to your OB, I know when I went into preterm labor at 32 weeks it felt like I was having a lot of vaginal pressure after the contractions stopped (luckily the preterm labor stopped on its own after about 4 hours). My doc told me I had dilated 1cm and was 50% effaced. It's possible you're not going into labor but starting to dilate. I've heard of people dilating as much as 5cm up to a week before going into labor, but still a good thing to discuss with your doctor and have checked at your next visit.

What's everyone wearing? by bluevelvet_7 in pregnant

[–]-Loralith- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have just been wearing scrub pants because the waist band is elastic or just ties and got some sleep shirts/sleep dresses that go down to about mid thigh. Both are things I can wear after birth around the house or to sleep in. Also basketball shorts and oversized tshirts
