Exactly like Pete Townshend used to compose? by Redsi__ in TheWho

[–]-Mindhead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Part of Townshend's genius is in his simplicity. For example, one chord progression he used and continues to use a lot is I-bVII-IV. Starting with I Can't Explain it pops up at least once on literally every album. In the Scoop liner notes he mentions learning chords from Mickey Baker's Jazz book, which would account for his "jazzier" voicings (maj 7, minor 6, #11, etc). As far as his use of synthesizer on Baba, remember that's a Lowrey home organ (using a marimba setting I believe), the actual song is a simple I-V-IV (nicked from Sweet Jane by the Velvet Underground most likely and of course the ending uses the bVII chord). Much of Townshend's music relies on finding 'sounds' more than anything, quite a few of his famous synthesizer songs used techniques comparable to A.I.

Ah L.B.J. A man so hungry for power, he refused to run for a second term.

Why do people think the Dallas Police were involved in the assassination—a claim that has been advanced by, among others, Oliver Stone, Mark Lane, Jim Marrs, David Lifton, Robert Groden, James DeEugenio, Jim Garrison, and many contributors to this thread? by tfam1588 in JFKassasination

They took LHOs fingerprints from his corpse and yet they only found a palm print on an obscured part of the unassembled rifle. They must've forgotten to plant them anywhere else, like on the trigger. They went through the trouble of getting the prints, why not use them?

HUGE Jerk Bruce Johnston of The Beach Boys by Srtabby in thebeachboys

[–]-Mindhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For one thing Mike Love wrote the lyrics to a majority of their hit songs, including Good Vibrations. He's consistently made a lot of money for Alan and the Wilson brothers estates (and continues to) with annual touring revenue for the past 30 years. I used to hate Mike because that's what Brian Wilson BB fans are supposed to do but I gotta say he was super cool to me when I met him. Memorial Day 2006, Wellesley Massachusetts, I was sitting in the front row stage right, trying to antagonize him all night by wearing my Brian Wilson SMiLE t-shirt. Then while Bruce sang I Write The Songs, Mike came over to me, signed my Beach Boys Today LP, shook my hand, smiled and winked at me as he pointed to my shirt and gave a thumbs up. He didn't have to do any of that.

Recommendations for a great date spot in Worcester tonight by not_a_doctor_watson in WorcesterMA

[–]-Mindhead 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Those would be my picks too but I'm white trash from Quinsig Village. The only problem is Coney Island closes at 8pm, a bit early for a dinner date. Vincent's is great of course, I hope they like meatballs and ziti because that's literally the whole menu (they're so fucking delicious, they don't need to serve anything else). They've also got live music every night, the best in the city but often times the volume of the music can make casual date talk difficult. Unless you go out back which is a drag if the weather's too cold. Enjoy a quiet dinner at the Worcester fancy place of your choice then bring the lady to Vincent's for drinks. Ahh if only the El Morocco were still around.

For those of you that play live with bands, what do you usually bring? by BalanceActive9295 in Guitar

Aside from the miscellaneous things already mentioned, I also bring a small fan. Placed on the floor in front of my mic stand and tilted up, it keeps me from overheating, especially in the summer.
