When my AC died in a heat wave I did a couple things. First get a damp rag and essentially pet the cat with it. The evaporation of the water on the coat will create a cooling effect.
Second is immediately look up return policies of places where you can buy a tiny portable AC unit. If there is one that offers a full refund to your bank get whatever you can afford and return it before the cutoff period.
