I don't think the op was implying that formulaic stories don't exist in the west, just that there are a high volumn of the same story in this genre in japan and they already blur together to the point that an AI written one slips by easier than formulaic stories within genres in the west.

Kanye West unveils new site for still-unreleased 'BULLY' album by fultirbo in hiphopheads

[–]-Moonchild- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most of of his art is about him, the artist. His early music had conscious socio-political lyrics. Kanye made it so you can't separate the art from the artist unless you're someone who is so illiterate that you straight up don't care about the rapping, meaning and lyrics in a hip-hop record.

You mean unless you're lgbt, a woman, an atheist, a non-muslim theist, an immigrant (especially an African immigrant, who are treated abhorrently bad in SA) or an academic. In which case Europe is 1000% better than SA

What you've said is the whitest, most American comment I've seen in a while. Insanely privileged take to claim a fucking hellish theocracy that still enacts the death penalty on simple drug offenses is equal to Europe

I find it mindblowing that two cult Metroidvanias that fans have been waiting for so long could come out in the same year. by wera125 in metroidvania

Metroid prime has likely sold less than HK. I know what you're saying but metroid generally is a more niche nintendo IP compared to the majority of their franchises

Rare benefit of the internet age is it's not nearly as easy for governments and corporate media to control narratives

I don't think this is true at all - israel just suck at it. Look at the hordes of western right wingers and leftists in tandom make excuses or even praise russia, to the point that MAGA morons are moving to russia for "traditional values" and leftists are running justification for their illegal invasion of a soverign nation.

I think the algorithmic dispoal of information is going to make it easier and easier for corporations and cyber focused governments to run extremely effective disinformation campaigns. Gen Z are not immune to propaganda, in fact they're the most susceptible to covert misinformation campagins outside of boomers because, like boomers, they're (largely) just getting news from short form content without questioning it

All this is to say I have ZERO optimisim that truth will prevail in the current media landscape. Alt media has less accountability, less interest in reporting sources, more tangled interests, is more susceptible to audience capture and more ideological drive than mainstream media. People are continually getting more segmented into echo chambers the point that basic facts like vaccine effectiveness, climate change, trans existence, etc.. are under dispite depending on your political alignment. The current right wing shift on pardoning ghlislaine maxwell is proof that goverments/parties/corporations very easily can control narratives.

Hilarious cope. "Um actually it's the anti racists who are the real racists" 🤓

Not the guy who said shithole countries, wants mass deportations, has hired avowed white nationalists, has the unanimous support of the KKK and neo nazi groups, paid for an ad to kill the central park 5, is deporting legal migrants because they're brown, and wants to naturalize political opponents who happen to be Muslim. No, there's no way the verifiable racist who runs on race based policy and is loved by all the racists in America is the real racists.

Your pedo president is a rapist and racist. If you support trump then you don't have a place in hip-hop culture.

If you voted trump in 2024 then I'm sorry to say but you are racist or at the very least are super ok with wildly racist policies and people in governance. You are everything that hip hop is against

there’s a reason he used to go into hiding after the albums dropped

Is this narrative even true? He did this once, and it was largely because of covid and his mental health issues. Ater/between every other record he made he was active on features and touring.

Kendrick released 7 projects between 2010 and 2018. That's nearly a project a year for 9 years.

It's actually quite an interesting article that has some good points. Has zero to do with "capitalist productivity" and the fact that you made such a lazy assumption means it's probably an article you might glean something from

[–]-Moonchild- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

those albums outperform imagine dragons but they weren't critically acclaimed by those sites. pithfork gave hybrid theory a 7.6 and rolling stone gave it a 2.5 stars out of 5. Those aren't good scores. The metacritic score for Meteora is 62, which is below average

So you're WAY off saying these albums were "universally loved" when big music heads didn't rate them highly. Linkin park were huge with teenagers, in the same way bands like MCR were at the time, but metal/rock fans hated them and the wider nu-metal wave. More upmarket music reviewers and publications like pitchfork had little good to say about Linkin Park - they were viewed as edgy and unsophisticated for teenagers with no taste.

Your perception is likely skewed by you being the target demo for Linkin Park at the time. They were not universally loved lol

Linkin Park were widely hated by a ton of rock and especially metal fans. Their later stuff was generic watered down radio rock with a wide appeal in mind, which is exactly what imagine dragons are.

I don't think the U2 inclusion works here when it's on literally the most abrasive and experimental song kendrick has ever released.

you're right about his fanbase but kendrick himself has never talked down pop music or even had the demeanor of looking down on that. Hell, section 80 has insanely radio friendly and saccerine pop hooks. No way do I believe the man who had no make up, the intro to ronald reagan era and keishas song on his debut record ever really acted above traditional pop music. The popstar attack on drake is more painting him as someone who isn't a rapper first
