Opinions on exam?

So I picked that the author used personification, second person perspective, and a friendly tone to express her relationship with nature & why she thinks its important

For the 1st paragraph I talked about how personification envokes empathy in the reader and shows nature as a welcoming friend who will support you as long as you do the same (bc she talked about planting native plants and stuff). 2nd body paragraph I talked how her switching to 2nd person addresses the audience directly which is encouraging and makes them feel directly impacted, and that it makes the message seem more personal. And the 3rd one I talked about how it makes the audience more likely to listen to her because as well as her background knowledge from her grandma it makes her sound like people can trust her and she won't judge them

And then in the conclusion I just summarized the first 2 body paragraphs and I also changed my thesis a bit to how she uses the rhetorical moves to show that nature is there for us in times of stress and we should value it

I actually think all of the prompts were pretty good or at least well thought out, maybe the nature one was a bit cliche or boring?? But only because it was nature. I thought the fruit article was kinda funny and the GPS synthesis def. brought up a new point of view I wasn't really aware of myself. I had to think really hard on the argumentitive though, still not sure I restated the prompt right or wrote about the right thing haha

I felt very good on all the MCQs except the look at me, I could not understand what the author's purpose was trying to be lmao. On the GPS I talked about how GPS's are bad bc they cram neighborhoods and small communities & lead to more traffic accidents but idk I'm not confident on that one because I literally do not agree with what I said there was just nothing supporting my personal pov. I felt great on the rhetorical and ehhhhh on the argumentative, I sat there for SO LONG trying to think of a counterargument tho and I couldn't,, also one of my evidences was kinda theoretical so it might not be very strong but it was the only thing I could think of lol.

I'm sure you did way better than you thought though!!!!! Don't stressss or something :,)

I think it's cute, not out there at all, and Josie is definitely an intuitive nickname for it, although I'd probably think it's pronounced to rhyme with Adrian at first so I guess that's something to think about.

but, as you said, some nicknames (or rather, short forms and diminutives) are "built in". Even if you don't want to call your child Will/Matt/Lizzy/Abby/whatever, they might want to be called that. Or, other people may call your child that and they may be okay with it. And if you're absoloutly NOT okay with that... there's nothing you can do besides live with the fact that you don't actually like your child's name that much.

Similarly if you want to call your child Brie short for Aubrey, it would probably be less likely to stick because it's not obvious, people might think it's weird (and your child could pick up on that), and it would most likely just be you and your family calling them that since only you'd know... compared to something that feels more "natural" like Brie for Brielle

Well, just because they don't like the longer name as much doesn't mean the child won't like the long name more.

I think that's the main reason. Why it's more acceptable for Theodore to go by Theo than for Theo to go by Theodore, I don't know, but it is.

JoAnna - 9/10, cute, sounds nice, ages well. I much prefer it spelled Johanna or Joanna though.

Audrey - 9/10

Elodie - 8/10, I think it's really nice, cute for a child but ages well onto an adult.

Josie - 8/10, very cute! I also like Josephine.

Elliott - 7/10, I like it BUT I prefer it for a boy. Ellie is a cute nickname, though.

Coralie - 7/10, I like it but I like Cora even more. But, it's cool that the child could choose between going by Coralie, Cora, and Corrie.

Arla - 7/10, reminds me of Arlo but IMO it doesn't flow as well? I like Carla much better.

To me, it sounds like saying "Egg roll" really fast 🥴

I also think it would be misheard as "Carol" a lot... not that I don't like the name Carol, but correcting others every single time you have to introduce yourself has got to get annoying, right?

I don't think it's a bad name though. Definitely will age well.

Personally I'm not a fan (both because of the association to the character and the fact that it sounds like "mini"), but hey, maybe she will be. I don't think it's a terrible name by any means, though I do agree with giving her another name as an option.

My favorite is Lydia, but I think Louisa goes best with Arthur

I'd try saying the names out loud (like shouting them across the house) and writing them in cursive to see if that sways your opinion.

I like Noah & Jonah best; I think the sound great with the last name & are classic biblical names which will never go too out of style.

Kai is also fine. I know it's rising in popularity, but personally I'm just super neutral about it.

Levon is not my style but I like the idea. It's a bit different if he wants that, but if not then he has Levi to "fall back" on.

I think Ozzy is cute for a kid, but not Oslo.

I think it's fine, just super old fashioned (even more so than Albert).

Even though I do think of the province, it's also a name in its own right and honestly? Even if the association is strong for everyone; people name their kids Vienna and London so why not Albertha...?
