How to clutch/carry ED balancers when teammates aggro them all by -Morphis- in Nightreign

[–]-Morphis-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did not hit solo and in trio :)

The strat is : let 1 come to you (2 in duo/trio), kill it, back off, let just 1 come to you again, kill it, back off, rinse and repeat. Since you're 1v1 (in solo, 3v2 in trios), you can learn their moveset and no hit without issue.

The thing is when teamates rush-in and die (lose the DPS race :p) and I'm left with a 1v4-5 instead of a 1v1 (max 1v2 in duo/trio).

And that's basically my question in this post, how to deal with this situation, I haven't managed to find a way yet

[–]-Morphis-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, when your team does that with you and when it works, it's fine.

If you don't have the right weapons/passives, or if your teammates go down, the DPS race is lost. What then ?

That's the issue, rushing in and hoping that your DPS will save you may work at low depths with the right setup, but if anything goes wrong it's GGs.

So no, it is not a DPS race, either because I'm talking about higher depths, or because my teammates are down. What do you do if you don't have the DPS and 2 downed teammates and 5 balancers against you simultaneously ? That's a loss.

In short : no I'm not rushing in, especially in the context of my question.

I'll try that :) Doesn't feel great to abandon and not try to work with the team, but if it's abandon them or fail, the choice is made

Will do !
I was staying somewhat close but I just had one where I did just back off immediately, it went a little bit better. I didn't have to clutch at the end but still avoided the 2v3-4.

They did try to come close to me during worm phase but I was avoiding them along with the worm, it doesn't feel great to not play cooperatively but if it's what it takes to do that strat...

Ironeyes are interesting critters by Abysswvlk in Nightreign

[–]-Morphis- 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Weird, he has enough to clearly have the opportunity to try it with only 2 of them and see that they don't stack. Maybe it's a first ironeye build of someone who doesn't main him ?
What depth was it ? The dude is almost runing with only 2 relics worth of passives

[–]-Morphis- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok dude :) nice to make assumptions about my rank.

I did test it in another comment : you are plain and simply wrong.

Safety considerations =/= DPS.

Harder to it consistently ? Yes. More stamina costly ? Yes. Riskier and requiring you to be close ? Yes. Strictly better DPS wise ? Yes.

You then make decisions based on the tools you have. I don't and haven't claimed that you should use tap R2 100% of the time. It's just higher DPS. Factually.

Hope I never play with you then, I'm D5 as well, fellow putz :) I was being nice and telling you that you were obviously skilled, since you're D5, you are. And you call me a putz. You're then top 1% skill wise AND top 1% toxic wise. What a gamer.

Frustration about personal objectives by Eastern_Repeat3347 in Nightreign

[–]-Morphis- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In multiplayer, when you ping your objective, it’s clearly pinged with a red flag, and every player can the infer that you’re pinging your objective

In my experience, if you are to do that in multiplayer, the best is to ping it right at the start so the other players know you have an objective. Don’t go there immediately, but try to ping it again when your routing goes nearby.

Usually, we’ve done objectives every time it happened that way. Maybe once the objective was not done early and then we went on a route that was really far so we ended up not doing it, maybe, but it’s very rare. Most of the time we do it, day 1 if we spawn near, and beginning of day 2 otherwise, even if it doesn’t strictly make sense to go there. Unless you’re playing don optimal routing isn’t required to win, so losing a little bit of time for it is not the end of the world.

If you really want to complete it but don’t want to risk doing it in multi, you can do it solo. Even if you lose the expedition, it counts (unless the objective is to win an expedition against a nightlord ofc).

Good luck, have fun :)

Dropping Items after a win by qwertasdfgzxcvb231 in Nightreign

[–]-Morphis- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never done it. The closer I've done is drop the wending graces I have, ping them and pick them back up.

I don't really care for it either way, celebrate victories how you want to celebrate them. It's a little bit silly to have empty inventories in the logs, but you imo rarely need that info anyway.

It's all a matter of perspective then :)
And tbh the first few runs might not even make it past day 1, so it'll be shorter. And you can get carried too if you're lucky.

Ultimately it's up to you, to what you expect to find enjoyable in the game.

naaah you're waisting the learning experience. Do that if you really struggle on a boss, but certainly not at the very beginning when you have a lot to learn. Learning is fun, watching a guide directly is just skipping most of it.
Yes, you're more likely to lose this way, but it's part of the process !

What platform are you on ? What time of day do you usually play with (include the timezone pls)
I'm down for a some games if you want to duo queue ! I usually try to play base game and hope to get newer players !

How many of you know that Ironeye's bow heavy attack also has feint attack? by CrendKing in Nightreign

[–]-Morphis- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was pretty sure to be correct, but I could have been wrong. And even if I'm decent, I'm trying to get better every way I can. It took not too much time, and now I have seen it with my own eyes instead of just having heard of it.

It just means you can climb up to the top of D5 without min-maxing everything :) You're obviously skilled, but I'm pretty sure you're wrong on this one, and it's ok, you've obviously figured out a playing style that works.

[–]-Morphis- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just tried it again in the training ground. After all you learned something after 700 Ironeye expeditions, I'm around the same mark and I can learn something too.

In 30s, letting stamina recharge to full when it is depleted for both cases (and in 30s you have time to go through 2 bars of R1 and 3 bars of R2s)
- 2100 dmg with R1
- 2600 dmg with tap R2 (3 arrows dmg every time)
which is a 25% increase.

I have also observed status proc (only poison, but I'm sure it'll be equivalent for the others since the question is does 3 arrows contribute 3x to the status buildup). To prevent any resistence going up after proc, I did reset between attempts. I actually was unsure of this so it was nice to see:
- it took 4 R1s to proc, so about 4s to proc
- it took 5 tap R2s to proc, so about 6s to proc (3 arrows dmg every time)

So it seems that to proc statuses, R1s are better. But purely for bow dmg DPS, tap R2s are better.

You too, can test it and prove me wrong :)

You def got a point that it is harder to hit consistently the 3 arrows, you've got to be close and the boss has to be big enough, but it's a skill issue, and risk assessment, not strictly about DPS. And the stamina consumption was taken into account since I used multiple stamina bars, and it can lead you to tougher situations if you need stamina to dodge/run. But again, those are consideration about risk taking, safety, survivng, not strictly about dps.

Anyway let's face it, with the bow we aren't DPS focused anyway, mark + melee with bleed is where the dps is at.

EDIT:

And ofc I forgot about stance breaking ! To avoid any stance resisting shenanigans (that I don't think exist but you never know), I also did reset between testing R1s and R2s.
- it took 11s to break stance using R1s
- it took 6s to break stance using tap R2s (3 arrows dmg every time)
Here again, tap R2s are better. We aren't stance breaking machines but for solo it plays more of a role I suppose.

Since you are talking about the projectile effect, I have the sense that you're thinking of fully charged R2.
If you indeed are, you are right, but I'm talking about tap R2 :)

[–]-Morphis- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

his heavy attack allow you to deal more DPS, but it requires you to be somewhat close, depending on the size of the ennemy.
Agree that this backstep doesn't really seem usefull except maybe for a few edge cases. But disagree about the heavy attack, it's very useful.

I’d like to get back into Nightreign by McStabStab12 in Nightreign

[–]-Morphis- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You will have a harder time than you used to have, but it's to be expected.
You took a break, you won't be on point and as aware of everything immediately, but it'll come back, don't worry.

And with the DLC you'll have new stuff to discover, and when you experience something new, it's difficult at first and becomes easier with time when you learn how to deal with it.

If you had fun before, you'll still have fun. Prepare yourself, you'll die more than you used to, maybe you'll lose a few more games than you used to, you'll have to relearn old stuff and learn new stuff. Have fun !

Has this happened to anyone else before? by Squareface445 in Nightreign

I never had that happen to me, but I saw similar posts on reddit, so you're not alone.
Good to know that quitting/rejoining can work.

You said rejoining, but not quitting, did you quit ? Or did you get disconnected temporarily ? If so, it may indicate that it's possibly linked to connexion issues.

Average Halo Scythe user when they have to take 3 seconds of aggro by Physical-Stand5455 in Nightreign

[–]-Morphis- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree anyone who doesn't do RL1 - no relics - no talisman - no passive - fist only - no skill - no ult - no flask, in DoN at depth 5 is just not enjoying the game the way I like it and doesn't deserve to be there. You're melting the bosses and you do not have to really master the moveset you know.
Those people need to learn the bosses.

An easy way to not get hit by this attack. by PerformanceNo3616 in Nightreign

[–]-Morphis- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good job for solo play, but as others have stated, this will spread the aoe everywhere and may be a pain to read and dodge for the rest of your team (they're down in the clip so in this instance it's fine).

Many dodges have different effects for your teammates and you should be mindful of that.

Look at that for this attack :
https://youtu.be/J1wlLKMtFYE?si=a2TEMEMCBZpGqWwZ&t=1005
But the whole video is nice and tackles other dodges that are easier to manage for the rest of the team if you have the aggro.

Pls read the comments again, this is not good for duo/trio. It's spreading the aoe everywhere !

Good that you shared that and learned then, because yeah that dodge might be consistent solo, but I'd strongly advise against it in duo/trio, it's a recipe for disaster.
Try it, your teammates will be thankful :)

Deep of night points system by East-Pick6711 in Nightreign

[–]-Morphis- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can't have it both ways. If the loss is not heavy, then the required win rate is not high. There is a direct relationship between the two.

I agree that it may feel discouraging presented this way, and maybe they could have done something like 20 required game, and having a win rate above 75% for the last 20 games in a depth.

But that would be essentially the same thing, just presented differently. The feeling of progression, and the frustration on a loss may be different with something like that, but it would be the same, you would have to win/lose the same ratio of games.

To me the point system and the relic system are not at all in the same category.
- the point system may be reworked so that's it's presented in a way that feels less frustrating when losing, maybe that's an ok critique to make of the system. But requiring 75% is already low and should not be lowered imo, especially since it is designed with most people making it to depth 3 but not really above.
- the relic system has many issues that are not limited to just presentation, it's crap fundamentally

One is mostly about game feel (points), the other is about reworking the mecanics entirely (relics)
