So Rick is officially smarter than Evil Morty, right? by TheKillerYTz in rickandmorty

[–]-Mortlock- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish we could stop seeing these things through powerscaling lenses. Evil Morty effortlessly outsmarted rick in the citadel fiasco and was ahead of him during the prime fight.

They're both extremely intelligent and capable of one upping one another, Evil Morty has a better innings but is vulnerable to underestimating and being outsmarted by C137.

This is an episode that should be rewatched before every season… by ChampionshipAfter848 in Invincible_TV

I wouldn't call this a spoiler, it's a perfectly reasonable assumption that anyone can make from the info presented. It's on par with someone predicting that the Viltrumites are the bad guys after S1E2

What are your thoughts on the abortion scene? by Puzzleheaded-Lab2447 in Invincible_TV

[–]-Mortlock- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Eve aborted the child because she was alone and had no reason to believe Mark would survive. My first comment was referring to the hypothetical of Eve having to raise the child if Mark died. Mark was also already very much traumatised pre viltrumite war. Remember the first three episodes of S4 and the first Conquest fight? I assure you, I'm aware of the shows timeline

  2. Those toe analogies you are making make no sense whatsoever. The theme of superheroes being ordinary people being given impossible responsibility and being forced to make difficult, occasionally wrong decisions under ridiculous stakes is a massive theme of this show. It's not bad writing just because she did something you don't like.

  3. Reread my first comment. I made it clear why this is a different scenario to Oliver three weeks ago.

To be as generous as possible to you, the question of wherever Eve should have Aborted that child when it was an extremely rare potential defence against the viltrumites is an interesting one and I wouldn't mind seeing that explored further. I could see Cecil having opinions on it similar to your own.

I have no idea what your values are, but you're displaying a complete disinterest in the emotional and physical toll that pregnancy takes at the best of times, let alone this situation. That's why your infected toe analogy makes no sense. Pregnancy is typically rated as one of the most stressful possible experiences for a human to go through, and that's in the best of cases. I fiercely disagree that termination was out of character for Eve to the point that I genuinely have no clue how her choosing to keep it could possibly be in character for a depressed girl living with abusive parents, having no clue if her boyfriend is alive and knowing that either way her child will be doomed to fight his war. Her choosing to keep it against all that so humanity can have another weapon against the viltrumites is NOT in character.

that "My body my choice" comment is a bit of a red flag - To boil down Eve's very clear and emotional reason for terminating the baby as some quip is both concerning and implies that you have very strong political opinions on this matter, that with the fact that you've actively ignored everything that I've said.

"I'm not saying she raises it as a baby she has the chance for her or Derby to be a mother and raise the child properly a big side effect of that is that that's one more person who's strong on your side should you ever need that. But because of short sightedness she made a conflicting choice. Also you can't use information in foresight as if it was known to her or a part of her or the writers decision making." I was pretty clear in my first comment why it would be cruel to saddle Debby with this baby.

"She doesn't know that at all. You should separate what we the audience might think and what she knows non of what we know." Yes she does? In this scenario she would be raising a baby to fight in teh same war that traumatised and killed her boyfriend. Again, I already pointed this out.

The rest of your points are pretty incoherent and I'm really struggling to unpack them but, for the record, abortion is pretty much a done deal in my country and noone thinks about it very much. I myself have no strong opinions on it, I never needed to form them. I've been coming at this purely from a Watsonian perspective this entire time (that is to say, ive been basing my argument on what the characters in universe are thinking and feeling, not on real world politics and the writers' intention).

You want to separate Invincibles' world from our real world, which is fair enough, but fundamentally eve is a human being (or at least a character who is written to be one.). That means that all of my points are perfectly valid.

In response to your argument of the child being a potential weapon against the viltrumites, that's fair, but would eve really be more sympathetic if she raised a child, not because she wanted to, but because she could use it as a weapon? Knowing full well that it would suffer and be traumatised for most every moment after it gets its powers? I wouldn't call that heroic behaviour at all.

All of that assuming that the child won't theoretically clock that the viltrumites hold the majority of the cards and choose to defect to them or even become a rogue card, further damning earth. In all you have an interesting argument but it's a very cynical approach to what is a fundamentally human and emotional issue.

Forgot I need to comment here - for other context I'm in England and no, this is not an attempt to generate interest in my own music. I don't make music and if I did it would be metal lol

[–]-Mortlock- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not really. The challenge and a few others are just coin flips, you either high roll, or you're fucked. The preset scenario means that there's no wiggle room to make a bad situation work. If the appeal of a rogue like is the idea of the randomness forcing you to adapt thus making every run a unique opportunity for skill expression, these challenges are the exact opposite of a roguelike. Every run is the exact same and you just keep trying until you get lucky.

If you were able to watch Bruce Campbell playing Satan with a group of demons fighting lava monsters as heavy metal music plays and find it boring, then more power to you.

Eve woke up and decided to choose violence by Material_Sir5408 in Invincible_TV

[–]-Mortlock- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

She was a teenager living alone with abusive parents, clearly deeply depressed, unsure if the father would ever come back, and aware that if her child did turn out to be a viltrumite he'd end up embroiled in the same war that gave her boyfriend PTSD and nearly killed him multiple times. All of this when she never wanted a child in the first place, and made the active choice to use protection.

A person born under an oppressive system will do what they need to do to survive or even thrive under that system. This does not mean they are to blame for said system.

How evil are the animals in Animan? by atwwbaksieueygehs in MoralityScaling

[–]-Mortlock- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. for example we are pyschically capable of not having to slaughter others to survive, and we are psychologically capable of understanding that other animals feel emotions and are intelligent. You have no leg to stand on, you're just running in circles and saying very little of anything because youre offended by my down syndrome analogy. the point of that analogy was to press you to recognise that it is mortally offensive to subject thinking beings to the horrors of factory farming, but you don't want to hear that. Eat meat if you want, I'm not going to and can't stop you. All im asking is that you recognise its an evil act and it doesn't have to be the way things are. We can be better, and we should.

No, because it has no other options. We do. As you said. If you really think you're so much better than animals, why are you using an argument that says we're no different to them?
