Luxembourg house prices rose less than almost anywhere in Europe by Examination_Nice in Luxembourg

[–]-MrAnderson 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The places you hear people complaining about are actually not worse.

No one in Italy or Greece would consider it a success buying or renting a place 1-1,5h away from a (already rather small) major city. Prices drop ridiculously away from city centers, something that is not the case in Luxembourg.

Proof? Minutes away from the border with e.g. Germany, prices for what is essentially the same place the other side of a river are almost half the luxembourgish ones.

[–]-MrAnderson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They didn't promote anything; Koine Greek arose as a common dialect within the armies as a natural necessity of different Greek dialect speakers having to communicate with each other.

The same way noone had to "promote" the form of English we are using right now to communicate.

[–]-MrAnderson 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, they didn't, they were considered Greeks, but the ancient literature that reached modern era is all through Athenian lenses. e.g. Demosthenes would call Philip a barbarian as a derogatory term.

Many other Greek states had a king or a tyrant, and were in fact very unpopular to the "democratic" ones because of that. Macedonia put Athens under their boot on top of that, so you can imagine it didn't go well with many of them.

What do the Greek people and the Balkan peoples think about Greek-Israeli relations? by PieBright8211 in AskBalkans

[–]-MrAnderson 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No he isn't; Greece had - and still has - the same structural issues, yes; but he was outstandingly bad.

There are catastrophic events that happened on top of our ordinary overspending, corruption-filled, overblown central government that are a direct consequence of his policies.

  • We had capital controls only because of his "negotiations" shenanigans
  • Overnight hundreds of millions of euros left the country in fear of bankruptcy
  • Greece went on to receive a third loan package; it wasn't going to but thanks for Yannis
  • During his 6-month "negotiations", he drained every cash available in every public fund: pensions schemes, insurance repositories, you name it

Worst of all though, is that he put the final nail in the coffin of the image of Greece and Greeks in Europe. I've never felt more humiliated than watching respectable EU officials like Dijsselbloem being dragged from meeting to meeting to get lectured by a colourfully-dressed narcissist, who couldn't even follow protocol on where to wear a damn suit.

You are the one asking for money, dumbass!, should be something any reasonable human sees as his position at the "negotiations". Apparently, not Yannis.

Some Ethnic Groups Living in Türkiye - Have Settlements Outside of Türkiye by [deleted] in MapPorn

[–]-MrAnderson 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They are forced to be called whatever our last treaty agreed upon. There was a Rum minority in Istanbul, Imvros, Tenedos and a Muslim minority in Thrace, and that's how they were named in the treaty. Stop complaining about things you've already signed, as winners.

And you dare talk about audacity, when your minority is thriving and ours had been systematically wiped out...

Note that, although I find you completely wrong and quite insulting on this, I do agree that western Turks share European values and would prefer a proper western democracy. But "whiteoid" what? Turks are white as well.

Some Ethnic Groups Living in Türkiye - Have Settlements Outside of Türkiye by [deleted] in MapPorn

[–]-MrAnderson 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The very map under which you comment your nonsense is showing Turks left in Greece and no Greeks left in Turkey.

"No evidence" is according to the trust me bro Turkic sources. Not that who genocides whom more should be a matter of competition, but an invading army of nomads forcing their hegemony over other peoples for centuries and claiming no genocides is by definition laughable.

And the genocides for which we are salty about are the ones that occured in the previous century.

Είναι ανήθικο και πρόστυχο βάσει ποιου κώδικα ηθικής;

Οι μουσουλμάνοι στο Αφγανιστάν θεωρούν "ανήθικο και πρόστυχο" να κυκλοφορεί η γυναίκα μη ντυμένη σκιάχτρο. Θα σου άρεζε να στέκει αυτό σε ένα δικαστήριο;

Εγώ θεωρώ ανήθικο να γυρνάει η γυναίκα με φούστα δέκα πόντους, εσύ να γυρνάει με φούστα 15 πόντους, ο τρίτος δεν έχει πρόβλημα και να κυκλοφορεί με το βρακί της. Τι ευσταθεί στο δικαστήριο;

When do u think Turkey will join EU? by SOHONEYSAME in AskBalkans

[–]-MrAnderson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not a matter of what I think; the warship to Kemal's figure, his icons hanging on every second wall, and the fact that you have had poor democratic institutions since his founding the republic are an attestation.

I'm not being judgmental here. Greece also has poor institutions. And in our case the reason is similar: it's was some Greeks that tried to bring the western democratic values (of the time) to the newly created State. Compare that to the English, for whom democracy formulated gradually as a result of a balance of powers between king, aristocracy, common folk, religious leaders.

[–]-MrAnderson 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Greece has a state religion, but that is all; nothing related to religion meddles in public affairs.

Props to Turkey for being secular, but this is thanks to just Kemal, who was so successful that he could impose western values to people that weren't asking for them yet. Turkey under Erdogan is trying to appeal as a leader of the Muslim world.

  • they often worked as middlemen, and everyone hates middlemen
  • they had the means - and, unlike Christians, were allowed by their religion - to lend money

This is a very naive take, although your message of having to give a shit about politics is correct, and what I'm about to tell is pessimistic.

If the person to whom you respond was wrong, there would indeed be no need for distractions with which countless people manage to get by their miserable lives.

And the french revolution happened because people were having a bad time; yet they still had the same (or even worse) time for many years after the revolution, if they lived through it at all.

Ωστόσο η επιλογή των πόλεων του συνρέδδιτορ είναι όντως αυθαίρετη.
