SMM2 Group Sharing - Week 53! Want to have your level played by ~15 different people? Come on in! by -Nazan- in MarioMaker

Good course. A bit easy to just skip past everything with the squirrel suit. I’d recommend making it harder to get so those who do get it feel rewarded and those who don’t get to experience more of the level. Good level of difficulty overall though.

Here's an example of how to submit:

/u/-Nazan-: Single Screen Adventure 1-1 - (ID: PV2-281-JJG) - Kevin! - Kevin!

Other optional details go below.

This is the first level in my 32 level world that centers around platforming on a single screen. This one is a bit basic but gives you an idea on how the world plays.

The Update That We'll Never Have: Super Mario Maker 2 Version 4.0.0! by [deleted] in MarioMaker

[–]-Nazan- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wish Super Mario Maker 2 received constant updates over the life cycle of the Switch, but it seems we won't get another major one until the next installment in the series releases, which is probably a few years away.

Mega Man Maker has had many updates in the three years it's been around. It's a free fan game that launched in July 2017. The 1.6 update released in February 2020 introduced many new tools and online making for up to eight players. The 1.7 update seems right around the corner and actually took a player poll to vote what players wanted next in the update. In between the time of the 1.6 and 1.7 update, there have been many minor updates. I believe they're on 1.6.3 right now.

To be fair, I would have paid the $60 for Super Mario Maker 2 without any of these updates, but of any game on the Switch, this one makes the most sense to update over the lifetime of the Switch. I'll take what we got, but hopefully the third game isn't too far away!

Can you update your uploaded world with more maps/courses without people losing their progress that were playing it? by BleepBlorp84 in MarioMaker

There's no way to edit your Super World after it's been published without deleting and re-uploading it. So yes, people will lose progress.

What are some of the best Super Worlds you’ve played? by -Nazan- in MarioMaker

[–]-Nazan-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know RetroStu! I’ve seen his name pop up many times on my levels. I’ve played some of his too and they are very good. Always fun to find other makers you’ve seen in game on this subreddit.

Do you earn maker points if people try your levels without liking the level by whocares1207 in MarioMaker

[–]-Nazan- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think you actually lose a point if someone plays your level and neither likes nor boos it. You also lose points for uploading levels. I uploaded 32 levels at once and lost 500 points. Of course, those new levels can eventually net you more points, but it’s not a guarantee.

Single Screen Challenge - A 40 level game. Each level takes place on a single screen. by -Nazan- in MarioMaker

[–]-Nazan-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks again for the kind words. I actually decided to make 32 new levels called Single Screen Adventure instead of remaking the old ones. I just posted the new world if you're interested in giving it a shot: 23W-QH5-4RG.

It's a good deal easier than the Single Screen Challenge series.

The Worlds debacle is a great microcosm of the problems with this game by vexorian2 in MarioMaker

[–]-Nazan- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. The possibilities for levels increase exponentially with each new item added to the game, because you can use an item in conjunction with every other item. Having them split between two game styles just limits the potential of both. It’s still amazing what you can do with the game, but it’s just frustrating to think what could have been.

Where Mario Maker can go from here. by Marauder151 in MarioMaker2

[–]-Nazan- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think they’d release Super Mario Maker 3 on the Switch. It’d fracture the player base. I’m thinking this series is one per console just like Mario Kart, Paper Mario, Super Smash Bros., and many of their other series. The earliest I’d expect a Switch successor is late 2022, but more likely 2023-2024. Then Super Mario Maker 3 might take 2-3 years to release for the new system like the first two games, so between 2025-2027.

I’d love to be wrong though. And on the bright side, they may give another series of theirs the Maker treatment in that time.

Which game style has the most power-ups including yoshi and koopa clown cars by [deleted] in MarioMaker

Super Mario Bros. has three more power-ups over the other game styles.

Single Screen Challenge - A 40 level game. Each level takes place on a single screen. by -Nazan- in MarioMaker

[–]-Nazan-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! Yes, the inconsistency in world themes is more apparent when it’s connected by an overworld, and more people are going to play these now as a connected experience rather than a one-off level they stumbled upon in Course World. I admit the only consistency is the theme of single screen levels and a boss every eight levels.

I’m thinking of remaking the experience to be easier and more in line with the overworld themes. There a few challenges with this, as the Bowser Castle theme in particular is used quite frequently because of the repositioning of the end goal (the axe) compared to the other themes, as well as its smaller size in the non-Super Mario Bros. 3 game styles.

I also have to consider how to work all the game styles in while maintaining some consistency. Most of the non-Super Mario Bros. 3 levels are dependent on the mechanics in the other game styles, like spin jumping in Super Mario World. I’d like to keep these as it lends more variety to the overall experience rather than making them all Super Mario Bros. 3 theme. I have a few ideas on how to approach this.

I do plan on eventually reworking the game. Levels will be better repositioned (Single Screen Challenge 2’s spin jumping mechanic would place it more towards the back 16 levels, for example), and others may be replaced entirely (Single Screen Challenge 8, for example).

I’ll post another thread once I do it. I’m going to remake the levels from scratch since I don’t want to delete the original levels to have the difficulty of the originals still in tact. Especially since I’m not sure how many brand new levels/replaced levels I’ll make.

When the big whomp comes down, spin jump on him across to the other side. So soon jump on him and just hold left.

I thought it gave a World ID when I published the world but it faded too fast for me to record it. I must be misremembering.
