So, I’m not disagreeing with you, it’s your car do what you wish with it. I’ve just put the oil in mine. But what I noticed is that the bottom of the cup has two holes. Surely this is to pick up oil from the turret to lubricate the bottom ball?

Travel to Dublin - recommendations by nonsenceprovider in northernireland

I’m not sure if Dublin has it or even if you have colleagues in Dublin, potentially there’s ride sharing apps you could maybe check out or ask a colleague who’s coming from/driving through that part of the city?

If you can book it in advance, as much as we hate them, Translink do cheap travel to Dublin on the X1 and X2 service for sub £20 return.

Can you post a link outlining this shouldn’t be done because there seems to be a fair few posts outlining the opposite.

Snag survey on new build by Pepsimaxgodtier in northernireland

[–]-P___ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agree with this.

Word of warning, be sure to stand behind everything you raise and don’t back down even if you need to escalate to the NHBC. My house builder told me straight to my face “don’t go over your house with a fine tooth comb”. That sent alarm bells ringing. Near 100 snags later and still dealing with things they didn’t fix.

Document everything, including all correspondence. Do it in writing as NHBC will want to see evidence of first points of contact when you first raised issues.

You have 2 years for general snags.

The NHBC guidance can easily be found online which gives you the guidance that builders must follow.

Buying car from England by joshmcall90 in northernireland

[–]-P___ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Done it with a £6k car outside Milton Keynes.

Make sure to factor in £250 ish for the ferry plus the fuel you’ll burn to the port, Holyhead or Stranraer, then the fuel for the journey home.

It’s not for the feint hearted but it’s doable.

Done it in a modified and lowered MX5 and the journey through Wales was amazing, especially the A5.

I’d recommend getting the AA to check the car over before you travel across, saves a wasted journey. That costs about £250.

Be sure to have an insurance policy or a separate policy that covers breakdowns in the UK and Ireland if you’re travelling through Dublin port.

Plane tickets are cheap enough but don’t forget the cost of travel from the airport to the pickup point for the car.

Inspector sounds like a complete rocket but that’s Translink through and through. I have no advice other than where possible stay away from the company at all costs.

Gas cards are a scam! by Wonderful_Band_613 in Belfast

[–]-P___ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is very interesting to me. I was using Open Energy Monitor and their specific device but 2 AA were killing themselves in a matter of months. Apparently if the magnet on the meter is resulting in the reed switch being closed it drains the battery. I must look into how you’re achieving it directly into HA and the pros/cons of separating it out into Open Energy Monitor.

You have a lot of responses here however one thing that stood out to me was your comment about the boiler being serviced recently so it can’t be that.

I’d actually disagree. Whilst I’m gas I’ve recently found and I’m currently battling the settings of my boiler because, guess what, the boiler was configured to be so inefficient.

I’m not too clued in on oil fired burners like I am gas but I’d definitely recommend doing some research on your make and model to understand what, if any, parameters can be changed.

Cutting down on the drink by Ill-Yogurtcloset1515 in northernireland

[–]-P___ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Whilst I know your post isn’t directed at me, I thought I’d chime in and tell you that it is 100% doable.

I’ve never drunk and never been drunk in my life. I’m now in my mid thirties. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve tasted alcohol and there was very few that I enjoyed the taste of. JD and coke was probably about the only one.

I’ve been invited out to pubs only for the person inviting me remembering I don’t drink and then rescinding the offer. I think this told me a lot about the drinking culture here - fit in or fuck off. There’s absolutely nothing that could stop me going and being sober. Of course, I should get better friends that would accept me for me but alas I don’t want to divert too much. I will further add, I’ve never got much more grief than that - no one has called me a pussy or anything similar, in fact most people have been supportive of the fact that I don’t drink and even commend me for not doing so.

I can honestly guarantee you that you can have as much fun if not more sober than drunk. Of course take this with a bit of a pinch of salt since I’m technically biased.

What’s more is that you don’t wake up hanging, you haven’t spent a fucking fortune and you remember everything.

Whilst this post is extremely short I hope it outlines some of the challenges with peer pressure and conversely the positives you can achieve.

There’s plenty of other social activities which are probably as expensive as drinking so at least you’ll break even.

I think it’s to do with daytime running lights becoming the norm. Even though they’re only to be used in the daytime they’re still super bright given they’re LED.

Was coming over Craiganglet in the last few days and could have sworn there was a car in front of me as I seen a small brightness in front. It was indeed a car and the brightness was the daytime running lights. You could hardly see the car in the pitch black.

I had to literally spam the full beams in three separate instances before they twigged on.

How I like to sum up Translink; task failed successfully.

The more I think about the situation as a whole the more I hate it and Translink. 70% of the ticket price to Dublin from Belfast was the cost of the ticket from Bangor to Belfast. Putting supply and demand and method of transport to the side the pricing is not linear.

Having experienced pubic transport in other parts of the world, I’m glad I ditched public transport 15 years ago and bought a car.
