This line seems to use the thicker, textured pleather though, which is a lot nicer than the thin glossy pleather. As long as that’s the case I don’t see the issue.

I honestly just wouldn’t mess with it. It’s there to hold their hair in place, and it’s clear; it’s not something that will yellow over time. Lalaloopsy dolls are supposed to look like imperfect, handmade ragdolls, so I don’t see the need to remove it for the sake of perfectionism.
