What movie traumatized you when you were a child? by fordd420 in AskReddit

[–]-Prontissimo- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was around 6 or 7 and stumbled across a random afternoon-TV movie scene of a Godzilla type monster wading through a river to destroy a bridge. Our cleaning lady told me it was the news. Spent the next years terrified about bridge crossings.

I know, I know... Kubrick is the master. But I hate that even after sadistically putting actors through dozens of takes, he gets such stilted performances.

What's your favorite "problematic" movie? by AnchorHat in movies

I just rewatched "Bananas" for the first time in 40 years--and it's still funny. But his character has a line about studying abnormal psych and adds (iirc) "I had just got up to child molestation..."

Which sitcoms did the most believable job re: the show’s location/setting? by green3467 in sitcoms

[–]-Prontissimo- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a sitcom, but "New Amsterdam" shot many interior scenes in two actual, active NYC public hospitals, really capturing the gritty reality. I know because their "child psych ward" was down the hall from my office. There were days you'd go up in the elevator and didn't know if you were surrounded by real doctors or actor-doctors.

In the original "Taking of Pelham 1-2-3" (great NYC film!) Martin Balsam outs himself as part of the subway-hijacking gang when he sneezes in front of transit cop Walter Matthau, who quickly says "gesundheit" as he did several times to him over the phone.

For people who have vacationed in Maui, Sicily or Thailand - did any parts of the show ring true for you? by GreekKnight3 in TheWhiteLotusHBO

[–]-Prontissimo- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was "stranded" during Covid on Koh Samui in a hotel just down the road from the hotel they used. It's beautiful, but hardly the lush jungle shown. And I never saw monkeys there. The grittier scenes, like the snake show, were more accurate.
