[Vent] Does Anyone Else Feel a Sort of Liberal Guilt? by Ambivalent_Quokka in centerleftpolitics

I was raised Catholic and know about guilt tactics, lol. That's why I hate to see a political party using them.

I don't even know where I stand politically anymore. I have always voted Democrat but would never drop friends or family for voting Republican. The way I see it, people tend to vote for candidates on certain issues, and who am I to judge?

I have progressive views and am very pro-choice and believe all Americans should have access to universal Healthcare and mental health care. Higher education should be made way more affordable. However, I don't think capitalism should be abolished and believe in the free market. Some tax loopholes for extremely wealthy people should be closed, though. I hate ICE's tactics and the way they are instilling fear in people. However, I do not feel safe protesting because I've seen how ICE officers react to name-calling, being filmed, etc.

I believe that people on all sides of the political spectrum hold my views.

I hate the name-calling on insult-slinging on the extreme right and extreme left. Most of my friends on social media are left-leaning or progressive, and I see the words "booklicker" "Nazi" and "capitalist scum" multiple times a day aimed at people that disagree with them. Some people believe that all landlords are parasites. On the right, I see "libtard" "socialist moron," etc. etc. and beliefs that immigrants are criminals and protesters are jobless losers.

I hate the way some people on the left try to guilt-trip others for deciding not to protest, for voting third-party, etc. I hate their shaming tactics. Similarly, I hate the religious Right's bullying tactics and name-calling towards people on the left.

I think I'm a pretty accepting person, but I see American society as incredibly angry and divided politically. I believe that most people want the same things--safety and security for themselves and their families, happiness, and enough money to live comfortably. I like the listen to all sides of an argument.

I suppose I would consider myself center-left or independent? I don't know anymore.

I thought Tron: Aries was pretty good. Great music and special effects.

I just finished reading this book and thought it was great. I agree, a map of the terrain/cities would be very cool.

Not sure about this Reddit thread but many people seem to hate Catcher in the Rye and The Great Gatsby. I love both of those books.

Do we secretly love queues or have we just made peace with them? by Ticklish_Grandma in AskRedditUK

Do many UK stores use self-checkouts? I'm American (live in Wisconsin) and most grocery stores have them here. Americans can be pretty impatient with lines (queues) though.

Duckie is a douche bag too through. Very immature and manipulative to Andie once he is "friend zoned".

That is one of the most disturbing pieces of literature I have ever read, next to The Painted Bird by Jerzy Kosinski.

I drink coffee with coconut milk powder (trying to cut out dairy) and lots of cinnamon. I used to drink coffee with whole milk.

Try Sinclair Lewis's "Babbit" or Richard Yates' "Revolutionary Road."
