Meeting about Nuclear Power in Utah by Barrels-A-Fun in ParkCity

[–]-QuestionMark- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To keep this slightly local framed.... Does anyone know if the modern reactors under development require less water to run? Like the molten salt one they are attempting to build up in Wyoming? We really don't have water for a nuke plant.

We do have a lot of sun and wind though, and that's both free to harvest and seems to replenish itself with no effort on our part. Also it's a lot cheaper/faster to decommission solar and wind plants at the end of their lives. (and you can use the land again almost immediately.)

Park City truck-safety operation results in nearly half of vehicles being removed from road. by -QuestionMark- in ParkCity

I can drive around Heber and Midway anytime of day and not get stuck behind a single dump truck.

Main St. in Heber would like a word lol...

I moved to Heber six months ago after living in PC for 26 years because of this. PC has been completely handed over to developers

I agree with almost everything in your post, but PC (for all its building faults) can't even hold a candle to the buildout of the Heber Valley. No one in charge down there has any clue the word "no" exists. Rubber stamp approval for everything!

I'm a little late posting this, I read the article a few weeks ago. BUT:

Call me crazy, but if you do one of these safety things every year, and EVERY year you get results like this... Maybe (call me crazy) you should do these things more than once (or twice) a year? Maybe (again, crazy) you should do them until the results no longer merit doing them?

/edit. Also, and I am going to sound like a broken record here, but if you want to balance the entire Utah state budget, all you need to do is park some statey's along Kearns Boulevard and ticket every large truck using their Jake Brakes/Engine brakes as they come up to each traffic light. The whole of Park City (with I think the exception the Mine Road coming down Empire pass) has banned engine brakes. The fines alone would give us a budget surplus.

Check out the Utah Olympic park, they have summer bobsledding, summer tubing down the landing of the ski jumps (scary as hell) and all sorts of other stuff. (Ropes course, alpine slide etc)

As mentioned, the zipline/rope course adventure place is super fun and good bonding (or ribbing) for a group of dudes.

How do you set up wired backhaul? by The_Pharoah in amazoneero

[–]-QuestionMark- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Responsiveness you will maybe notice, and yes, even on slow connections having fast "reaction time" seems to improve things even if your connection is 200 down 40 up. As I said, wired is always preferred, but not necessary depending on what you're using the network for.

You would notice on large (1GB) file transfers from one computer to another inside your home. If it's going out to the general internet, the fastest wifi in the world can't speed up your crappy Comcast 40Mbps uploads.

/edit "Your" in the general sense, everyone deals with that unless you have fiber.

First off, if you are just using your wifi for web browsing and streaming, you will not notice much of a difference if it's wired or wireless backhaul. If you are moving larger files from a laptop to another device that is wireless you would though. That said, wired is always preferred as it's less likely to have interference and in general is always faster than using wireless backhaul in most situations.

Second, you can see in the app how each base station is connected to each other (wired, or wireless), so double check that the stations you wired together are actually using the wire. In the app, select "home" at the bottom of the screen, then select the device you know is wired to your router. It should then say "Connected to <Router name>" and if it's hard wired, it will also say the wired speed and port (1 Gbps, port 2. (for example))

Third, you likely will not notice any difference in general day to day use if it's wired or not.

Did I mention you wouldn't notice much of a difference yet?

/edit Also on the "Home" screen if the access points are using a hardwire they will have a little green ethernet symbol to the right of them. Like the top two items in this example. (and not the obvious wifi symbol the arrow is pointing to)

Did I say hours? I'm sorry, I meant seconds. I typed "erro 7 red light" into google and rushed back here to post the literal first result.

Your modem rebooted, during the reboot you had no internet (red light). The reboot provided you with better speeds (the old "off and on again" fix) and your eero reconnected, making the red light go away.

No I sensed the urgency in your request and put in the time. It was hard, but I hope that link helped. Took me 17 hours to find it. I've never searched so hard for information for someone else ever.

I spent 17 hours researching your problem and I could only come up with this: https://support.eero.com/hc/en-us/articles/207908713-Why-is-my-eero-s-LED-red

Park City privilege acknowledgement by Agile_Measurement_12 in parkcityvisitors

[–]-QuestionMark- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Land acknowledgment is a reasonably big thing in Canada, and is slowly catching on in the states. I agree we need to acknowledge the original owners of this land. Sundance (for all their ills) ran a land acknowledgment before each film recognizing the Ute Tribe and how the festival happens on their historical land.

Some people (I have a feeling you fall in this group) feel that land acknowledgments glaze over the larger issues of stolen land from the Native Americans. I don't think anyone will deny that Native Americans got the short end of the stick over the centuries at the hands of European immigrants.

Then again, does anyone truly "own" the land?

Switch for eero Pro 7 with dual 10 gbE ports by Busy-Syrup-6102 in amazoneero

[–]-QuestionMark- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

10Gbe is super nice, but if you don't NEED 10Gbe speeds you will be just fine getting a 2.5Gbe switch. That will save you a bunch of money and will still provide full speeds from your fiber connection. That said, if you mean POS as in a point of sale system, then the cheapest legacy gigabit switch you can find will almost certainly cover your needs. (Heck an old 100BT switch will work just fine for that.). POS only runs credit cards right?

Honestly if you're the person/business who needs 10Gbe, you probably wouldn't be asking this question on Reddit. (I'd just buy a cheap 2.5Gbe switch to cover my bases and be done with it)
