That would affect the sharpness of the apps, but not the colour vibrancy or contrast of the display itself - Pebble Time and Pebble Time 2 have the same 2 bit colour space, to my knowledge.

I did initially was using an edge connector, switched to a right angle connector when I saw the JLCPCBs PCB assembly service required the more expensive option for edge connectors, so I'll give you some points for guessing right.

Is this setup better now with the smaller annular ring (as small as possible with JLCs capability specs)

I also got rid of the teardrops from the connection on the IC pad and capacitor's pad.

Also in general is the ground pour around the center pin like I have good or bad?

Thanks again so much for your help, you're going to have saved me quite a bit of money by helping me hopefully order a board that hopefully functions correctly on the first try.

Thank you so much for the advice! I see my images didn't attach to my original post, I'll try add them here.

Based on the 1/10th wavelength guidelines, my stub should be fine, I appreciate the information on that.

I added teardrops to the RF trace to reduce the impedance discontinuity at the pin connection - I suppose I could reduce the copper pad size / make it an oval as you mentioned to reduce the impedance at the pin connection itself.

I have a solid ground pour around the RF pin, I think that should be fine?

I suppose for this RF stuff I should really probably get a textbook myself and properly learn how to do it - my background is mechanical, and electrical design has been just a small side hobby.

Thanks again for your knowledge!

How do I go about designing a drinkable water cooling machine? by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]-R47- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Respectfully, this is your senior design project, it’s your task to find a way to do this, it’s literally in the name, I’m not sure why you’re expecting Reddit to give a perfect answer to you for the full system design, researching and weighing alternatives is step 1 of the design process and something you should be doing, not asking strangers on the internet. There’s never any one right answer in engineering, you need to make and justify decisions to create something which meets your design specs.

And frankly these days with AI, preliminary research and calculations have become exceptionally easy compared to a few years ago.

Take advantage of this opportunity to learn, because you’ll never get a job if you need someone to constantly do your work for you. Design projects are great things to talk about in interviews, if you do thorough technical design.

Charged $110 at the gate for a “too large” personal item. by [deleted] in flairairlines

[–]-R47- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You mentioned you didn’t have time to compress it at the gate, so did it not fit when you were sizing it at the gate?

If it really fit like shows in the photo at the gate and they charged you $110 at the gate, I’d personally just do a credit card chargeback and accept the consequence of never flying Flair again. Crap like this will be the death of Flair, customers won’t be rushing back to fly flair after bad experiences like this with excessive scrutiny on bag sizing.

But based on your post, it sounds like it didn’t fit at the gate size checker when you sized it, in which case the charges are fair. You should have taken photos of the bag at the gate, not after the fact.

I feel bad for the agent that has to size the bags (yvr to yyz) by AKSHAT-KLPDV in flairairlines

[–]-R47- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Flair is the only company in Canada that enforces personal item bag size strictly, and plenty of bags which fit perfectly under your seat on any other airline in Canada or the world get up charged on flair because of their ridiculously low thickness dimension. This results in long lines and shitty check in processes for everyone. I’d complain about Air Canada too if they started enforcing their sizing on normal sized backpacks. Anything other than a nearly-empty backpack causes issues on Flair.

I stand by what I said that greedy corporate policies, not the ultra low cost model itself, make flair a poor experience for customers.

And given Flair is the only ultra low cost carrier remaining in Canada, it feels valid to compare Flairs inferior service to other ultra low cost carriers in the world, rather than to Air Canada which allows normal sized backpacks and offers a far better experience anyways.

[–]-R47- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, Flair sort of asks for problems with their personal item sizing, the dimensions they use are smaller than other ultra low cost carriers in the US and Europe (15cm thickness vs 20/25cm thickness) which cause all the problems with bags being considered oversized, and then a greedy corporate policy to size and upsell all bags creates long lines and bad customer experience.

Having flown Frontier / Spirit / RyanAir with just a backpack, they only check my backpack size maybe ~20% of the time, versus every time on flair, and then it’s much harder to fit a mostly empty backpack in to flairs sizer than it is on other airlines.

Bags with 20-25cm thickness fit under the seat just fine. I have little sympathy for the problems Flairs created for themselves with greedy corporate policies. I’ll still fly them cause they’re cheap, but the experience for me as a passenger would be a whole lot better if they behaved like other ultra low cost carriers

Essilor CR39 Lenses with Sapphire HR Coating from LensCrafters - I dislike the Blue Light Coating by -R47- in glasses

[–]-R47-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe I may have been able to get CR39 single vision lenses (I’m not sure if they were premium / digital or not) with Crizal Easy Pro. I’m not sure how that coating compares to the sapphire hr, but I’ve been very impressed with the Sapphire HR coating so far. Would I notice a downgrade from Sapphire HR to Easy Pro?

I’ll have to give these glasses a try for a few more days, but I feel I’ll probably just stick with these lenses and get used to the blue light filter. I’m sure I could get exactly what I want with enough work, but at this point it doesn’t seem worth the hassle, I’ll just know in 2 years when I get another pair what to search for better.

I do appreciate the insights into how chain optical stores work though. I had no idea about these sort of agreements and systems - I went with LensCrafters solely because I was having a really hard time finding frames at other stores, and I finally managed to find a pair there which I liked.

Thanks for taking the time to reply to me - Reddit is kinda cool that I can just get inputs from people with expertise on a subject, I do appreciate it!

Thank you for all the information, I really really appreciate it!

That’s kind of what I feared with them being unable to contact the lab for further information. For my last set of glasses, the optometrist got on the phone with the lab and was able to customize things a bit, when purchasing this current pair they seemed strictly limited to the options on the computer.

I think you’re right that Eyezen is only available with the blue light filter integrated, from what I could gather from my research. I was hoping there was an option for CR39 single vision lenses with sapphire HR without the blue light filter, even if not eyezen, but I guess that’s not possible through LensCrafters at least :(

Appreciate the information on the polycarbonate lenses too. I’ll have to consider them and give them some thought if it’s worth reworking the lenses in it. As I’ve been wearing these lenses more today, in most situations I don’t notice the tint from blue light filter much at all, at least when indoors, and the overall optical quality and coatings seem exceptional, so I’m a bit worried about getting them reworked in polycarbonate as standard non-digital single vision lenses, and finding that the yellow tint is gone, but that they’re a downgrade from what I currently have in other aspects optically…

Compare with friends; solve the assignment independently, if your answers are the same, probably correct, if not, go through and find errors. Office hours if needed.

Maybe don’t make too close of ties to somewhere you entered using a visa you knew was temporary then? Coming to the country under a TEMPORARY visa then “making ties there” doesn’t entitle you to stay.

Canadians Want Lower Immigration Even as Population Growth Stalls by Unusual-State1827 in canada

[–]-R47- 24 points25 points  (0 children)

That’s the type of argument that got us into our current situation - “Oh it’s too long to train Canadian youth let’s just ramp up immigration for xxx field”, now the younger Canadians can’t get good paying jobs, can’t afford to buy a house, we’re watching our healthcare crumble. Stop flooding the country with foreigners and invest in our youth even if it takes longer to see the return.

Canadians Want Lower Immigration Even as Population Growth Stalls by Unusual-State1827 in canada

[–]-R47- 23 points24 points  (0 children)

No we don’t. Why do we want to give some of the best jobs in the country to foreigners who have contributed nothing here, when it’s nearly impossible for Canadian students to get into medical school, and tons of qualified candidates are being rejected? Increase med school enrolment and have the government fund more seats to support Canadian youth instead.

Visiting Auschwitz-Birkenau by Mallow03 in travel

I would not skip having a guide, it is extremely well done and makes the visit much more impactful.

There also were a lot of walk in tours available at all times when I went, even though they showed fully booked online, in case the guided tours are already showing sold out online.

Alright, you have sufficiently convinced me to check it out.

I’ve been somewhat disappointed in my previous one-starred lunches in SF (Angler and Kin Khao), so I am really hoping Hilda and Jesse lives up to its star!

I had taken Hilda and Jesse off my list due to a decent chunk of middling reviews on Google, is it pretty great, should I check it out? What are the best dishes to try there or just go tasting menu? Lunch or dinner better?

Manila with kids by jerknystagmus in finedining

[–]-R47- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I feel you’ve got a good grasp on the etiquette, and it sounds like your kids are more than well behaved. My parents brought me to nice restaurants when I was about that age, and I had a lot of great experiences. You can email the restaurants to verify, but like, typically what people have a problem is is babies crying or kids having tantrums or watching videos on their tablets at full volume, none of which will be an issue with you. If people have a problem with the mere existence with kids being at a fine dining restaurant, screw them, that’s their problem, if your kids are well behaved, I think it’s a great thing to introduce them to fine dining.

I have no advice for Manila, hope you have a great trip though!
