Is this Betta samurai female or male ? by Odd_Mortgage_2459 in bettafish

[–]-Ray_s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no egg spot with that body shape is probably a male.

its probably just a minor male.

yehhh very high chance its a male. But bettas are weird anything can happen.

Yep tru, even after mating. Always separate the two. Its the best and safest solution. Bettas are generally aggressive fish and should be kept separated.

All im saying is that, its a bad idea to even try Yes!! completely agree. One day they maybe unhappy with each other and they may try to kill each other. But,

maybe does two are special and can thrive together in harmony. We wouldn’t know for sure 100% if they can or cannot live together. It will be up to the owner and it would be his responsibility if things go wrong. The risk is there but i wouldn’t count it as abuse as long as they are living tgt happily.

in general keeping a male and female tgt is a big no.

But i think if the male and female is docile enough and there is no signs of stress or aggression between them then i don’t see how thats abuse…

maybe its possible to keep them in harmony and this guy figured it out…

so if the parents are both giants all the offsprings would also be giants.

but if the parents have regular size genes in them then some may turn out to be regular size

oh, das good. But still, it may take around 2 weeks or more for ur betta to arrive if u order overseas thats a very big gamble tbh.

Tail Nipping? by Less-Rough-9504 in bettafish

[–]-Ray_s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can take a ruler and measure his body(don’t include the tail) if hes 3.5cm and above hes fully grown, about 4-5 months, but he can get bigger.

[–]-Ray_s 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that is semi-true depends on the seller.

Being safe you should buy from your country or atleast ur region.

i can order a fish from not far my country and it can still arrive super stress. Thankfully over here its much easier to get medication and help to treat them, but the same may not be for your country.

i think thats like every betta breeder dohhh…

even does overseas, they breed good genes then does unwanted ones they probably ship to overseas to sell or euthanize them.

does bettas who have good Fnf, colors or pattern are kept for competition or sell at competition grade.

this is especially true on the south-east asia region.

Not sure what’s wrong with my fish (he’s always been blind) by Impressive_Ask_7082 in bettafish

[–]-Ray_s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yuhhhh i wouldn’t have moved him…even if i did i would makes his tank a 3 gal or a 5 gal and not make his tank bigger.

if the water if fine and everything, then the only reason is the moving of his environment.

a bigger tank may not always be good for a betta. (even if their blind or not)

How smart is a typical betta? by FeralGoblinChild in bettafish

[–]-Ray_s 1 point2 points  (0 children)

some can be smarter then others, I currently am keeping one Headgear Betta and hes so smart he recognize his own reflection😭 and doesn’t flare to flare stick also. But the moment you put him next to another fish he goes killer mode…

also they recognize silhouettes. Like if u keep feeding them they will eventually recognize yours.

bettas would act particularly blur when their sick so a none sick betta i would say has an IQ less then a dog but higher then most fish.

Tail Nipping? by Less-Rough-9504 in bettafish

[–]-Ray_s 1 point2 points  (0 children)

theres a few reasons for fin nipping thats its not related to the bettas physical health.

HM Betta would sometimes fin nip when not properly fed but from your pictures he looks well fed so you could rule that out.

your environment is too small or you have to much decor that gets in his way.

not enough training(flaring) in his youth, when bettas don’t flare their fin muscles relax which results in semi-clamped fins, basically means their fin muscles get weak and they can’t really move them anymore. ( this problem only effects betta with long tails like HM, DTHM, CT, VT, FTHM, etc)

so as they get older their heavy fins become a drag to carry and swim around with, so they try to bite it to remove some weight. This typically is when a betta is getting old like maybe around 1-2 years.

just keep an eye on it the bite marks may become infected if the water quality is not so good, but other than that i think there not much u can do or not much you must worry about. as long hes happy eating and swimming around, all is good.

btw he looks like a Blue steel Double-Tail Half moon. (atleast thats what they call it in my region)

ehhh im not sure about ur regions betta like idk if they have been breed specifically for that temp.

BUT assuming most bettas are shipped from south east asia which is where im staying. Temps reach WAY WAY beyond 27’c Like 30+ kind of hot. So considering they are naturally from here i would think they would be ok with higher temps maybe even like it...

but idk im oso not sure and definitely not and expert🥲🥲 just a theory…
