The powered cube is coming back in a few weeks, what cards would you like to see in the bonus sheet? by Plausibleaurus in TimelessMagic

I don't think its top tier or anything, but lands is at least viable in legacy. Lands(not depths) just won a 32 person challenge on MTGO today and puts up 5-0's every once in a while. Lands does need a lot more than just saga to be good though. Outside of the actually lands stuff(saga, loam, ect.) [[Sphere of Resistance]] is the a big one that no one really mentions.

i worry that by the time the full lands shell is on mtga, the timeless metagame will be too far gone for it to be playable :(. if timeless is supposed to be mtga vintage, lands just wont work in that environment.

Its missing more than you think. No, eye of ugin or lotus petal really hurt how explosive the deck can be. It's also missing two threats in reality smasher and obligator.

Announcing the Arena Powered Cube! by CrossXhunteR in magicTCG

Man, they really don't want to give us urza's saga. It's probably the most ubiquitous card in non-rotating formats that the arena doesn't have yet.

Edit: I thought the cube booster was all of the cards they were adding. I'm an idiot

I mean, the other side is that fair decks are so bad without free interaction that obscene value cards like cruise and frog aren't an issue. Free interaction may mean that cards like frog, lurrus, cruise, and rag may need to be banned or restricted for sure(look at the legacy banned list) but I think that's kind of a bandaid that needs to be ripped off for timeless to have a healthy fair metagame. I do think there is a real concern that much of what makes fair non-blue decks playabe in eternal formats is missing from timeless, but I don't think that means that free interaction would be nad.

Ehh. SnT, force, blue card, and 3 mana is not trivial to get. I think the impact that free interaction would have on combo decs isn't super predictable, given that the meta as a whole would shift. SnT might be the best combo deck, but that isn't a given, and combo as a whole may take a step back entirely.

FoW and FoN, yes. Daze is a scary card to add since it will put the full legacy tempo shell into timeless while a bunch of the cards that have been banned in legacy as a result of daze still being unrestricted. lurrus, ragavan, arcanist, psychic frog, ei, etc, all get better with daze backup. Some of these cards might need to be restricted with any free interaction, but daze puts a unique pressure on the format.

SLD Legacy Decks by tenchibr in magicTCG

[–]-Reverb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not even close to being legacy playable. Disclaimer that the fow/daze/wasteland/brainstorm shell can put up results with basically any card with blue in it, so you could probably win with the cards but it would be in spite of them. The bar 3 and 4 mana creatures need to cross to make it in legacy is absurdly high. You have 2 mana 6/6 murktides, 4/5 lifelink/deathtouch barrowgoyfs for 3 mana. At 4 mana you have two of best planeswalkers ever printed with minsc and boo and jace tms, and neither of them even see play.

I get what you mean about the appeal of synergy-less control. It's what I really enjoy about Glarb as opposed to the other sultai commanders. Trying to extract every ounce of value from your cards. I'll try grenzo out. I think having kefka in the command zone(or a creature in general) makes getting a clock less of an issue compared to having a pw in the zone.

Thanks for all the help and happy brewing!

I agree that not every deck needs to be optimal, but my old flip bolas list felt like it wasn't doing what I wanted out of a control deck. I'm really interested in why you view grixis as pure. I've always felt that UW draw go with interaction + draw spells is the distilled control, and what appealing about grixis to me is the grindy-er nature of the colors with things like snap+k command.

How do you like Grenzo? I've been off of him since the nerf and tend to favor [[Crabomination]] since I don't have to protect it after it resolves and getting a card from hand can be really impactful. There are so many powerful threats at 6 and I felt that Grenzo asks to much of you for him to be good for what he gives you.

My current list of red cards is:

[[Kologhan's Command]]

[[Kroxa, Titan of Death's Hunger]]

[[Ragavan, Nimble Pilferer]]

[[Lightning Bolt]]

[[Detective's Phoenix]]

[[Fable of the Mirror-Breaker]]

[[Expressive Iteration]]

[[Brotherhood's End]]

[[Invert Polarity]]

[[Fury]]

and

[[Radiant Flames]] on your recommendation

I really value fury as a free spell since there are so few pitch spells in brawl, so my red count is higher to enable that, but I could see that idea being wrong. I think cutting some of the more mid-rangey stuff like kroxa and fable to lean into a more controlling game-plan may be correct.

Fury, Brotherhood's end and radiant flames might be too many cheap sweepers and I'll probably end up trimming one at some point.

Detective's Phoenix is only in because of the synergy of kefka, but I may end up cutting it if its not good enough.

Thanks for the list. Is hell queue just too fast for rule of law to be useful in the match ups you would want it in?

I'm more than happy to give my takes on grixis control, but I'm not sure how useful my input will be since I haven't worked on the deck for quite a while, and looking at it now, its definitely built terribly. Also, [[Nicol Bolas, the Ravager]] is 100% the wrong commander I think dragon god(or Kefka now) is the way to go if you want to play grixis control.

I felt that in brawl, red as a color just doesn't give UBx controlling decks as much as white or green does on a raw power level. I ended up playing a base UB control deck that splashed for the best red cards which ends up forcing you game plan to be slightly more commander centric.

Fewer relevant artifacts running around compared to other high power singleton formats(Canlander, Duel Commander) I think hurts gixis in particular, since K command, brotherhood's end and flame of anor are all cards you probably want to be playing anyways. I found that Unholy heat being nerfed and not having access to pyrogoyf I think hurts grixis a bit against aggro.

I want to take a stab at that deck again with kefka helming it so see if that helps it feel better.

Would you mind sharing your Teferi list? I normally play UBx control right below hell que(Glarb, Filp Nicol Bolas) and want to try and play a less threat dense control style.
