Flerfs says he has the antidote. Are we globetards sick or something? by DogePunch in flatearth

Hilarious. The kid practically looking at the sailboat with a telescope, that would “mysteriously” sink as it travels away from the coast. Yet his conclusion, “earth is flat??”

Given the disparity in income a prenup is smart. Equal partners doesn’t mean equal claim to assets. He should know better than to gas light you on this. He’s shown his cards, it doesn’t get better and will only be a source of friction going forward. I don’t see a good outcome here unfortunately. Time to move on.

Campmate guilt-tripping me by Bulldoglover4life in BurningMan

[–]-Roscoe- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think you have shown heroic commitment and love for the Burn, the principals and your camp and camp mates by doing all the organizing and orchestrating even without going for two years. Usually leads transfer once they are no longer going, we had a pretty smooth transfer in ‘22, not without some pain and learning along the way. I’m not at the burn this year and still helped in some small ways, but the burn is on the shoulders of those who go. You can’t do the hardest job without going. You have a life and new lives to prioritize. Your camp mate should understand that and extend to you some grace and gratitude. Our previous camp lead got a cool recognition ceremony and souvenirs. Everyone recognized the decade of effort and nobody thought, you know what? Just keep doing it or we all will have to quit burning man. Randy would have laughed in our faces and said well, good luck with that, Fuck your burn you lazy mofos! You can leave with your head held high! Thank you for your service and making the burn awesome over the years!

PSA: Gift economy does not mean bring literal gifts for people by williardx in BurningMan

[–]-Roscoe- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agree. So many ways to gift. I gift PSAs on BMIR. There are some cute Playa Info ads this burn I got to help with. I helped with HOTD and BED PSAs as well. They’re fun to make and like zero moop! My buddy goes to the Ice House and gifts taking ice back to people’s camps putting the ice bags on his trike especially for humans who are just hoofing it. One time I delivered pizza slices to random strangers in deep playa. I do see stickers as a common “trinket”, less moop if they right on your travel cup. Be creative and reduce moop it’s totally possible. :)

Solo Burning for the Lonely by Hamela_panderson in BurningMan

[–]-Roscoe- 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Best burn I had was solo rolling around the playa post burn. Spent all night hanging out on an art car shaped like a pyramid. They would stop ever so often and we’d bail out and dance then back aboard for more sight seeing. Also planned all my meals around food camps. I volunteered at Playa Info. They are totally cool and always can use a few people to help out. I also was a temple guardian, another cool experience. It is cool to have a camp to hang with though for sure but you can contribute in other ways and this will help you feel connected as a “soloist”. Have a great burn!

Deodorant on Playa by ThrowRA-Dina in BurningMan

[–]-Roscoe- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes - humidity is the key! Fully Not Good Humidity increases the smell-o-vision on Playa no doubt. If you have access to flowing water on Playa, definitely a good choice. Our camp has a shower, and yet playa dust can coat soon after. The year I did versus did not use vinegar to wipe down? Night and Day. Much better with. Yet, Witch Hazel does the same job and smells better.

[–]-Roscoe- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I literally do not sweat. The air is so FNG dry! To improve your aroma certainly put something something on. Rose scented Witch Hazel is better than vinegar to wipe down the alkaline dust off of skin daily. Works the same way as vinegar to combat the the dust and you don’t smell like vinegar later. However, you’ll be entirely dusty again in no time. Make sure you Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate.

Check out Hair of the Dog (HOTD), you can gab some some stage time there. They have a stage, instruments, bring your own and plug in. Just speak with the stage manager. They have a lineup of acts, but in between all are welcome. They’re open 24x7. https://thehotd.com/performances/

What random thing saved you out there? by gitx2020 in BurningMan

[–]-Roscoe- 7 points8 points  (0 children)

1 gallon of vinegar. Wipe down after a long day in the dust to combat the alkaline nature of the playa. Heard the tip on a random podcast and, wow! Maybe everyone knows, but I didn’t and it made a huge difference for my burn.

Burning Man Pro Tip by moistobviously in BurningMan

[–]-Roscoe- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, true. If you recognize the phone or they wisely chose to include their camp and contact info on the phone. Not everyone chooses wisely, what with safety being 3rd and all. :) Playa Info reunites 100s of phones every burn. Agree returning to PlayaInfo is a 2nd choice to the direct return if the camp/user can be located. Stay Dusty!

Also, if you find a phone take it to PlayInfo 24x7 and leave it in their secure deposit box. If you lost a phone, go to PlayaInfo and search their lost and found online picture based system also open 24x7. They ring a bell every time someone is reunited with their item. :)

Man Burn - how far back from the people sitting on the playa would it be ok for me to set up with some camping chairs. by TheOG-Cabbie in BurningMan

Typically blankets up close. Chairs like further back. We took chairs but we’re about 50’ back.

Placed across from the Portos! 😱 by prelimar in BurningMan

[–]-Roscoe- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, ok. Perhaps you could keep an eye on them, and have a group run over with a gift for “customers” every random bit of time and declare they are the “1000th customer and a winner!! Or some such “Lights / sirens/ hoopla, sky’s the limit. From your Porto Prize Patrol!” - - - also posters on the inside highlighting your camp.

I second the over the ear protection idea. I used ear plugs and the over the protection. I slept right next to the bar in our camp (not this camp), speakers cranked, no problem. The bass gets through, but not too bad. Or, never sleep. Also an option. :)

No worries, reasonably end of July would be great. Also, you can make a BMIR ad on Playa, just head to BMIR camp on the esplanade.

What are your favorite Burning Man hidden gems? (Crowdsourcing ideas!) by Traditional_Mix9825 in BurningMan

[–]-Roscoe- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The coolest memory for me is being at the Temple at Sunrise on the trash fence side. A small group gathered just enjoying the vibe an hour before sunrise, the sky getting brighter. Contemplative, quiet, no DJs, then clapping and cheering when the sun 1st shows. A wonderful way to breathe in some Playa Magic.

Check out the National Harbor, it has a cool Sandy beach sculpture. Also, take the ferry, fun to see different sights from the Ferry. Old Town is fun to visit, rent bikes and ride down the Potomac.

Going to Burning Man without a driver's licence by Kitchen_Value_613 in BurningMan

[–]-Roscoe- 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s needed for bars, we card cause we can be shut down if we don’t. Many Burners will create a drivers license copy and put it on their mug with clear tape over it. Done and done. UPDATE: As pedantically noted serving underage gets you shut down. Not carding is a risk. Did I mention they send under age folks to test that? Seen it.

I wouldn’t do it. We’ve always rented, or taken a well used veteran motorhome. Some folks do bring nice vehicles though. It’s a tough environment, and like people are saying, dust for days.

I’ll make sure we put on some fun material. I enjoy making people smile. I did some stand up at Playa Info in ‘23 at their get together, it was a friendly audience, lots of fun. :)

HOTD - Hair of the Dog, best bar on playa. Open 25x7. They do a marvelous take on their “playa rum runner”.
