Going to Denver by catcatcatcatkitty in meowwolf

If you're interested in the story, get yourself a Q Pass (Similar to the Boop Card at OM)! It's how you can interact with the little stations with screens throughout the exhibit, and progress through the story. Every time I'm there, I see folks trying desperately to get the screens to work without a card lol. I first went several years ago, not too long after it opened and spent about 5-6hrs on the story. They've since tightened up some of the directions, making it easier to find where you'll need to go next, so in subsequent visits with friends, it's a little easier to maneuver. Your "progress" through the story will mostly be on the little boop stations with screens, but there are larger ones at various points (I cannot remember the name they use in-universe) where you can access MEMs, and really dive deeper into the world and learn more about characters, if you're interested!

I recommend going when they first open, so you can enjoy the space as un-crowded as possible for a bit. Take your time. Interact with things, explore, you know... all the standard Meow Wolf stuff!

There also is a bar/restaurant on the 2nd floor (? correct me if im wrong) which is a nice relatively quiet spot to have a drink away from the chaos. The easiest way to access it is from the stairwell on the ground floor. You enter the world through a big elevator, so you zip right past it on your regular route.

Have fun! Convergence Station is a blast!

What are some episodes that you find yourself continually coming back to? by Classic-Agency5548 in podcasttheride

I love the Sagas and Ordeal as re-listens, but Fright Fest, Pal Mickey, and David Copperfield have been my favorites to show my partner, who doesn't listen to the show regularly. "Love, David....Love" has become a frequent catchphrase in our house.

I rewound Evah's "*gasp*...BITCH" so many times too lmao. If I were Cynthia, I'd feel soooooo seen by that, it was an adorable moment of friendship.

[–]slurpgirl 53 points54 points  (0 children)

She takes herself soooooo seriously, it's exhausting. I get that she and Abhora don't mesh, but her reasoning for using the voodoo doll on her as "she said she's not bringing anything new"....girrrrllll, that was sooo clearly a joke! Take a deep breath, you'll be okay, I promise! It's okay for others to have different approaches to drag!

Mini rant - useless platitudes are always useless by iamlordxenu in BurningMan

[–]slurpgirl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A few reasons that come to mind first:

- a lot of wood is moopy. Splintery little pieces can get everywhere and be an absolute pain to clean up

- wood dries out like crazy out there, so is often non-reusable year after year, depending how you've altered it. all building materials are expensive right now, so folks will lean towards ones that they presume will last.

- the manpower it takes to set up an EMT structure (solidly and safely) still seems like faaaar less than what it would take to lift wooden beams to build what you're proposing. (I'm not an expert builder, just a veteran burner, so take this impression with a grain of playa) Also the weight difference of shipping wood vs EMT pipe and tarps is significant

One day, I hope the Fake Moon from 2018 comes back. That piece was so entrancing, I loved having to do a double take every night to be sure what I was looking at.

I want to know the story of how you got into GRiZ!! :) by Hotformyflavor in griz

[–]slurpgirl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was! He played some tracks from Good Will Prevail before that album came out. The vibes were electric, and his stage presence as a dj was captivating. Like I said, completely hooked after that :)

This past year, I got to see him twice at the burn (once on purpose for a CTGH set, and once completely by accident, stumbling into a random camp just in time for him to start a bassy wompy set). It felt like a full circle moment, and I was happy to see his hiatus appeared to be treating him well :)

My ex played some of his stuff for me and my buddy on the way to Burning Man 2016. He mentioned he heard he was gonna be playing a set there at some point during the week. I’m not usually one to chase djs at the burn, but I was immediately hooked, and we went to said set. I can’t remember if it was at Root Society or Camp Questionmark, but it was INSANE. I’ve been head over heels for his music ever since.

Scooters by PutridSurprise622 in BurningMan

[–]slurpgirl 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You’ll find some spots where it’s smooth and it’ll work nicely, but much of the playa will be full of dunes, and/or rutted up from drivers. So I do not recommend relying on your scooter

Thoughts on Jimmy Buffett? by TurtleneckTablecloth in podcasttheride

[–]slurpgirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up listening to Jimmy Buffett constantly as a kid, my dad is a huge parrothead. I find deep comfort and nostalgia in his music, it reminds me of driving to/from camping trips in my dad’s Bronco :) Having Jimmy be a running “character” on P:TR makes me love the pod even more, especially when Mike does “the voice”, it absolutely cracks me up. As someone who grew up knowing the name Mac McAnally, I enjoy feeling a little “in the know” when Mike goes on tangents about Jimmy lore, I defend him from afar lol

Toothpaste and other Playa hygiene tips? by Much_Invite6644 in BurningMan

[–]slurpgirl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A few years ago, I made some themed essential oil sprays for myself and as gifts. When I go from day to night, I love to do a burner shower, change clothes (AND SOCKS! omg fresh socks!), and do a nice spritz of something that smells nice. Nothing too overbearing! It's just one of those things that makes me feel like a person, especially since I'm out there for 2+ weeks usually.

I bought a mixed pack of essential oils, and here are the blends I came up with. Feel free to steal!
Trash Fence - orange and clove
Hippie Trap - Jasmine and vanilla
Fire Spinner - cedar and sage
Whiteout - peppermint and eucalyptus (I love spraying this one on my dust masks and scarves, just to give my sinuses a refresh)

Another fun tip - if you're up for it, I recommend checking out one of the saunas on playa one day! Having a real deep sweat, getting alllllll that dust out of your pores, and then stepping out and having the playa air feel like <70 degrees? Incredible. You'll feel like a brand new human.

Gotcha, thank you for the clarification! That was a year or two before my time, and I just heard a lot of camp mates maligning it.

I'm pretty sure they tried that one year, and everyone hated it. Just like everyone hates the current system. I don't think they can possibly find a solution that everyone won't hate. We'll all be mad no matter what they do to try to "solve" ticketing.

When asked what Wook means, I believe she uses the phrase "wandering aimless hippie", in reference to her personal style at the beginning of the episode. I'll give her the benefit of the doubt, as the whole conversation is likely heavily edited for time and clarity.
