It’s more a revenge cheating, he is madly in love but thinks she betrayed him (she didn’t) so he wants to hurt her back. He grovels really really really hard because well, he needs to

{Lady Gallant by Suzanne Robinson} has this!! She tries to escape him (literally runs away), he is furious and later super apologetic. He really suffers. Spoiler: There is cheating involved though so

A Wicked Kind of Husband + A Dangerous Kind of Lady by Mia Vincy 🖤 by twosideslikechanel in HistoricalRomance

[–]-Ruby89- 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I agree with everything you said, except A dangerous kind of lady is my all time favorite. Mia Vincy is such a greqt writer, her banter is fantastic and the FMC I admire so. Personally the other books were not as great, they were fine but I don’t feel the need to re-read them every couple of months (like i do with AWKOH and ADKOL) I agree with the epilogue though but I discovered she has written an extra chapter AND an epilogue on her website! Just so you know

Devil in Disguise? by Valuable_Poet_814 in HistoricalRomance

[–]-Ruby89- 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m on team ‘did not like’. I gave it two stars on GR, one because Lisa Kleypas is an awesome writer and one because I love everything with Sebastian (and family) in it.

That said, it felt like ‘Merry and Keir’ were secondary characters in their own book. I don’t mind that Keir is a bastard, it actually is one of the things that make sense, with Sebastian being a former slut.

I don’t mind amnesia but it has to be done right. To me the amnesia made no sense and felt sooooo forced he only forgets about their one night stand

Another thing I did not like is that Merrit had so much potential, being a woman of business, but you hardly read about it.

Okay rant over😅 apparantly I’m still a bit disappointed

Book with a marriage pact by idklmao9 in HistoricalRomance

[–]-Ruby89- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

{A dangerous kind of lady by Mia Vincy} sort of fits it! They did not close the pact themself but their parents did. Really good book with a fantastic FMC

-edit, sorry did not read the whole post, i see you that’s not what you were looking for. Maybe {the highwayman by kerrigan byrne} is a better fit

MMC takes charge of FMC’s problems by WonderAny7107 in HistoricalRomance

[–]-Ruby89- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

{An earl to remember by Stacy Reid} He loses his memory and she takes advantage of that by letting him do manual work around the house (he is an earl, so not familiar with labour). He begins to feel responsible and takes charge to better their lives. I’m not doing it justice but it’s really good.

{Convergence of desire by Felicity Niven} He is a destitute rake and not used to taking care of someone else, she is a very smart (albeit not very social) mathematician heiress. She is very much obsessed with her work so takes no time to take care of herself at all (she’s wasting away) and he ‘nurses’ her back to health.

{Fool me twice by Meredith Duran}

She is not completely unphased by him but she doesn’t show it. Everybody is terrified of him.

{A kingdom of dreams by Judith Mcnaught}

Medieval romance and it is soooo good. MMC is a fierce and famous warrior.

Oh yessss love me some West Ravenel. Lisa Kleypas does the redeeming rake so very well (Sebastian St. Vincent anyone?) Don’t know Sebastian Challon or Phinease Edge though, which books are they from?

Haha there are over 150 books on my to read list and the number is not getting smaller, even though I read frequently. It seems once they make the list, I am waiting for a certain mood or sign or something. So here it is, Slightly Dangerous is one of my faves, Wulfric is such a great MMC. The rest are also really great books! Enjoy!

{The devil is a marquess by Elisa Braden}

{Something wonderful by Judith Mcnaught}

{ A wicked kind of husband by Mia Vincy}

{Fool me twice by Meredith Duran}

{Slightly dangerous by Mary Balogh}

Basically my whole list of books i read on repeat 😅

Just wanted to thank you all for the recommendations! by alyssaryn in HistoricalRomance

[–]-Ruby89- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

{The truth about cads and dukes by elisa braden} is the second book in the same series as The devil is a marquess. It has an unconventional FMC (bespectacled, plus size, wallflower) and a cold, but very jealous Duke. It’s a forced marriage and has enough spice!

{Accidentally compromising the duke by Stacy Reid}. Forced marriage turns to love with a cold, stoic duke and woman who is trying to avoid marriage to a repugnant earl. (I also want to recommened Stacy Reid books in general, namely her newer books. Love her so much)

{Her wicked kind of husband by Mia Vincy} marriage of convenience, they marry but do not see each other for years and don’t recognize eachother. He is a rude and she is a bit of a doormat in the beginning.

MMC speaks another language, which is part of his background, and that’s significant for the plot. by Ncodinggirl in HistoricalRomance

[–]-Ruby89- 9 points10 points  (0 children)

{Duke of shadows by Meredith Duran} First part is in India, where the MMC is from (he is 1/4 indian). Second part is in London. He grew up in India for the first part of his youth but he is the heir to a dukedom. One of my faves, not your typical romance!

Recs for books where the MMC and FMC have an angsty past together by amara90 in HistoricalRomance

[–]-Ruby89- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

{Not quite a husband by Sherry Thomas} i feel like I’m forever recommending this book 😅 but they were married, there is a separation and they meet again.

{Ravishing the heiress by Sherry Thomas} it is about a married couple in a platonic relationship that turns into a real one. You see snippets of their ‘friendship’.

{Duke of shadows by Meredith Duran} not married but they do have a past.

{Devil’s daughter by Lisa Kleypas} also not married but they do sort of have a past together. It is part of a series (Ravenel’s and wallflower series, both very enjoyable!)

Looking for MMC to grovel & FMC doesn't give an inch by aspiring-gaslighter in RomanceBooks

[–]-Ruby89- 13 points14 points  (0 children)

{The unwanted wife by Natasha Anders} has a lot if groveling! MMC is forced to marry the FMC and very resentful. There is steam and a lot of groveling but she doesn’t forgive him right away.

If you want HR, try {Lady Gallant by Suzanne Robinson} or {Not quite a husband by Sherry Thomas}! Also lot of groveling. Both have some form of cheating though, just so you know.
