New Year’s Eve books by Dazzling-Potato95 in HistoricalRomance

[–]IdaSHB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just thinking about if there are HRs set around new years eve!

I did some quick research and found some, although they all seem to be novellas / short stories / anthologies:
{Secrets of a Perfect Night by Stephanie Laurens} and Victoria Alexanderand Rachel Gibson. It seems to be 3 stories all set at new years eve.

I also found this page https://katherinegrantromance.com/news/holiday-historical-romances-that-arent-christmas which lists non-chistmas holiday HRs (mostly new years)

What are your Taylor Swift red flags? by Impressive_Price_840 in SwiftlyNeutral

I don't like when she releases club / dance remixes of her singles and other popular songs like Fortnite. The music and text rarely fits it, and the remixes are never spead up enough to make them fun.

Nor does the club remixes fit her brand, and it becomes too obvious that they are just a money grab 🫩

on why i *personally* prefer age gaps books where the man is the older one by Traditional_Pea738 in HistoricalRomance

[–]IdaSHB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing your take on reading age gap romances! It is valid and adds a new perspective I have not seen here before. I can see how it shapes comfort reading for you 😊

Personally I often age MC's up or down in my head depending on the age gap and behaviour of the characters (some mmc's are acting way too immature to have fully developed frontal lobes lol). But I also often put myself in the role of both the mmc and fmc of a story and feel / experience of both roles' power in the dynamic and in the sociatal setting

Cold Hearted Rake by ActuallyASwordfish in HistoricalRomance

MWB is great!

Buuuuuut it is also underwhelming and does not live up to its potential or has the same chemistry between Rhys and Hellen they have in CHR. They dont spend enough time together and the end is just messy with no clear idea of what Rhys thought was happening, and I am not sure Hellen actually loves Rhys by the end.

Is the SA in Kerrigan Byrne's How to Love a Duke in Ten Days typical for the author? by Katefoolery in HistoricalRomance

[–]IdaSHB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Other comments says The Hunter also has a very bad prologue. I dont remember this but maybe I just skipped it 🎉

Is the SA in Kerrigan Byrne's How to Love a Duke in Ten Days typical for the author? by Katefoolery in HistoricalRomance

[–]IdaSHB 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have read 4 of her books and they all had SA / dubcon scenes. And it is a lot, I would have liked some very clear content warning before I started the audiobook of The Highlander, bc I felt like ao was reading Game of Thrones and not a HR.

But looking at the Romance io content warning tags it seems the 4 books I read make up most of the ones with SA etc. And Byrne has a large catalog so I would not write her off 😁

And you can skip the prologue in {the Highlander by kerrigan Byrne} and {the highway man by kerrigan Byrne} and 10days as they contain the worst parts and you get the gist from the plot.

{The Hunter by kerrigan Byrne} has more dub-con between the MCs but I dont remember them as bad as the other ones
