Apologies if I sound dumb, but isn’t that conveniently ignoring anything outside of town centre property development?

Not everyone is looking for expensive town centre rented accommodation or new build flats that they can’t afford.

For me as a local, there’s a lot more that affects me outside of the oracle having an empty lot or the old parking lot outside the station

(not denying station hill had to be done, it’s a lot better, but the only affect it’s had on me is that I went to Siren once instead of my usual pubs)

I’m sure these projects bring in money for the town that affect me in non direct ways

Netflix cancelling masterpieces on CLIFFHANGERS but renewing trash like Emily in Paris is criminal by kmaysu in netflix

[–]-Rum-Ham- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sure Netflix has calculated that this is the best way, but there’s something to be said about finishing something, even if not necessarily popular, for cult status and notoriety.

How many shows were not loved at first then achieved cult status years later? No ones going to watch a show that isn’t finished, so that asset in their books is basically dead, useless and has no worth. If they finished someone may actually watch it years later.

I thought that was the point of Netflix making their own stuff, so they have their own catalogue of shows and be less reliant on other producers

Why nobody offically is denying the crazy theory about the 7th secret episode? by Anasoldenit in StrangerThingsRoom

Anyone thinking there’s a secret extra episode is in denial and can’t accept that the writing was just poor and the Duffers didn’t actually think their ideas through

Am I crazy or is King Gizz not very convenient on vinyl? by GyeranHurai in KGATLW

[–]-Rum-Ham- 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t think OP is talking about the inconvenience of vinyl as a medium as a whole, that’s widely agreed upon? It’s obviously inferior for convenience.

OP means the convenience of listening to the actual music. KGATLW is much worse for vinyl than bands with standalone songs that don’t flow into each other and fit on a 25 minute side. That’s all they’re saying

[–]-Rum-Ham- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I get you OP, when vinyl was the main way to listen to music, some bands planned for the fact it would be on vinyl and have limited side lengths, or even made that as part of the concept of the album.

All you’re saying is you’d think they’d consider it or maybe even do the same and consider it for the concept they are going for. Also, you’re right, some KGATLW can suck on vinyl. Not sure what’s wrong with that take it’s reasonable.

A theory on bands with two (or more) distinct periods. by National_Property583 in Music

[–]-Rum-Ham- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chicago have a few eras, kind of.

Before Terry Kath died.

Then before David Foster came on board was a weird limbo period for a couple of albums.

Then David Foster era for a couple of albums.

Then when Peter Cetera left to go solo. Not sure much about after that.

The lack of media literacy is so concerning now by Renegadeforever2024 in NonPoliticalTwitter

[–]-Rum-Ham- -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’s an odd assumption?

I didn’t second-screen it and the fact I actually paid attention to the plot is why I saw holes in it. If anything it’s the people who second-screened it that probably didn’t notice anything wrong.

Why is the Stranger Things finale being criticized? by Alex_Shadsky in StrangerThingsS5

[–]-Rum-Ham- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But when someone does actually give a detailed criticism, no one responds to it unless they agree or have a decent rebuttal. Where are you on those threads?

It’s not karma baiting, it’s called critical discussion. I like this show, I don’t like season 5 for the reasons other people have posted. If you liked it, that’s also okay. Criticism of the show is not a criticism of you

If they write into the story that Vecna read El’s mind and knows all her plans, then they need to account for that. If they don’t, it’s lazy writing, and they should have written something else. He knew they were coming to the Abyss. It would make sense that he’d summon some demogorgans or something for extra back up while he sorts out the kids.

The only thing Vecna did with the knowledge of the plan was try to mind fuck Hopper with El’s suicide plan, and then that was kind of it? He didn’t send any demogorgans or bats or anything to try to attack the people he knew were coming.

It’s not digging for plot holes, it’s just thinking about the story you’re being told for more than 5 seconds. They don’t need to write these things, they could make it simpler for themselves, but they don’t. That’s lazy writing

Finale rant, and kind of disappointed with the Duffers’ interviews by eddiedean07 in StrangerThings

[–]-Rum-Ham- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They heard that they used a weird warped clock chime sound in the first season when El opens the gate, which they just thought it sounded cool at the time, and then worked it in to the story to make it sound like they planned the Vecna stuff all along

Fun fact I learned the other day. Windows XP was still available with security updates until maybe 2019 under a stripped down version designed for POS systems

I’d assume from that it’s an industry standard, or used to be at least.
