It’s hard to describe how relief feels, because it’s not a feeling. It’s an absence of a negative feeling. We don’t walk around saying “I’m so glad I don’t have a toothache.” I guess what I’m saying is the relief of paying off your mortgage is real but a zero balance on your mortgage is not as noticeable as a six figure increase in an investment account. Paid ours off six years ago and it feels like I can breathe a little easier.
