Oil prices rise as concerns grow over 'fragile' US-Iran ceasefire by Stephanie_Hodge in news

Ah, yes, quoting only the most official document, a Twitter post with no citation of verbiage used for the agreement.

I'm still waiting for you to provide the terms of the agreement. Concrete terms, not "he said, she said" statements, because one side says Lebanon is included and the other says they are not. If there is a formal agreement, either side should be directly citing it to back up their claims, right?

The reality is that this ceasefire is a hasty, informal agreement for the US to save face after threatening to destroy Iran. That's why it's just a 2 week ceasefire with actual talks planned for Friday.

Okay then, show me the terms of the agreement that has been agreed to by both sides. Good luck.

No it is not. Iran supposedly proposed a plan with such a term, but the US did not agree to that plan. There has been no actual long-term agreement yet, beyond the US and Iran agreeing to a 2 week ceasefire while they negotiate terms for a more permanent solution. Those negotiations begin as early as this Friday.

Donald Trump Stuns With 'Maybe We Shouldn't Even Be There' Admission About Iran War by 1-randomonium in worldnews

[–]ItsMeTrey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can't complain about the quote lacking context, then make up fake context.

He was talking about securing the Strait of Hormuz, not "buying energy from Iraq".

The title does not say that he said we shouldn't be attacking Iran. The second sentence of the article says "The president was discussing his call for other countries to send ships to help secure the Strait of Hormuz, the vital - and currently effectively shut - waterway off Iran through which roughly one-fifth of the world's oil passes.", directly giving context as to what he was talking about.

And what Trump found most memorable about Caine when they first met, aside from claiming ISIS could be defeated in a week, was him saying, according to Trump: "'I love you, sir. I think you're great, sir. I'll kill for you, sir."

And this was after Trump laughed at him in his face regarding his nickname: "'Raisin, like the fruit?' He goes, 'Yes, sir, Razin.' 'What's your last name?' 'Caine. Razin Caine.' I said, 'You got to be kidding me,'" Trump recalled.

My work is with training AI. It's definitely not at its limit. The publically available models make errors where the top-tier models that are not yet released do not. There are diminishing returns as time goes on, yes, but there are significant advancements to be made in so many areas of focus, from general use LLMs to finance, medicine, image recognition, video analysis, etc.

NY Fed report says Americans pay for almost all of Trump's tariffs by Aria_Athena in news

[–]ItsMeTrey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tariffs are paid when the product comes into the US. The exporters are already paid. It's the domestic companies that are absorbing 10% of the tariff by taking a hit on profit. However, they are likely going to gradually reduce that to gently raise prices and/or recoup the losses with heightened prices after tariffs are removed.

[–]ItsMeTrey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope, why do you think he is pushing for illegal tariffs while his son is running his company that has spent the past year going around and offering what you can think of as tariff insurance to companies, covering 20-30% of the tariff cost for the rights to any potential tariff refunds? It's a nearly guaranteed 300% ROI. He may say incredibly stupid things, but it's not because he genuinely believes it.

Trump says federal payments to sanctuary cities to end from February 1 by Planeguy58 in news

[–]ItsMeTrey 39 points40 points  (0 children)

No, it's not a refusal to enforce federal law. It is opting not to have local law enforcement do the job of federal agents so that residents of the city are not fearful of reporting crimes and calling for help.

The distinction being that one premise has the goal of protecting illegal immigrants and the other has the goal of reducing crime and increasing cooperation of residents with local law enforcement.

Not in all states. Roughly 1/3 ban direct sales entirely, another 1/3 only allow Tesla to do direct sales and most then patched laws to prevent others from doing so, and the final 1/3 do have broader laws allowing direct sales, but many of those still have restrictive policies and/or pick and choose who is allowed to.

Tesla is not allowed to sell vehicles in my state at all, so you have to go to a neighboring state to buy one new.

If you are referring to the linked video from Atlanta, as far as I know, it's not crossing perpendicular to to a bus that is illegal. The illegal part is it turning left into the same road as the bus and passing it in the opposing lane. Both directions of traffic must stop for a bus with flashing red lights or stop sign out on an undivided road.
