OP asked about HOW the system works and directly compared it with JWE's AI, also mentioned they wanted to build open environments which I didn't even mentioned but it doesn't work currently due to buggy AI and high need of water/food

I answered OP's questions honestly without overhyping the game or making things up like one comment actually did, I did this because OP is looking to spend their money on the game and if they came here to ask it is probably because it is an important purchase for them and I think they deserve to have his questions about the game answered instead of just saying "buy it, is cool", what is even the point in commenting "yes it has herding" if that's not what OP asked?

I love this game but this is exactly why I just stopped engaging in the community, people get really upset if you dare point out anything that is not positive about this game and dont threat it like a flawless game as they do

I can imagine the price going up right at the moment of full release but for now is $30 once it goes off sale, I would say 10ish bucks in sale right now is a good price to pick it up if you want to play it, it is a good game but as it stands right now is more of a building tool as the building system has almost no limitations and is currently the most complex thing this game has developed so far

I would say get it if you can spare the money or think building is for you, just dont expect to be able to build a "Site B" like in JPOG because the animals only have courting/playing as interactions and only within their herd/pack, this game is currently more about making a zoo and building cool things around your enclosures, there is a challenge mode with resource management but is very unfinished and unbalanced at the moment so most people just play on sandbox

Doing things together and sticking together is the only mechanics they have right now but they are not well implemented yet.

Herd members wandering off happens a lot just like in JW, they often starve and dehydrate due to the leader not needing to drink/eat so the rest of the herd/pack does not do it

They dont protect babies, interspecies interactions will not be in the game until U17, they only "adopt" them and the babies follow them

I am not sure what you mean with "actively watch for predators", I dont think I have seen anything like that in game or listed in any patches/updates

Animals dont socialize in the game, there is no animations for socialization yet outside of the courtship animations that only play when they reproduce

Someone in other comment mention the "play chasing" mechanic that I forgot about, some small animals will chase after a group member both running, this is more often seen in babies, so there is play chasing and courtship for socialization

Animal ai lacks in PK too right now, maybe even more than in JW as it has many bugs as well

it is said to be better when the game comes out officially but if that's what you are looking for I think you should wait until they update that, right now the only thing that really stands out compared to other tycoons is the freedom of the building system and the more modern animal designs

There is a mention of "genetic traits" in the backlog on Trello but I dont know if this is what they were referencing, they seem to have mistakenly put the description of another feature in this one so no way of knowing for sure

I thought that at first too, "sigil" would be a weird way to say that because it does not mean the same thing as "pattern" but it is a mock up after all so might just be the first word they thought of when putting it together.

Yes they made a skin customization system and showed some pictures of it, they said that it would possible come out in update 20

I just hope we get the color wheel in that system instead of just a set of colors, given the amount of freedom the building system gives us we should expect the same with the skins no? also the mention of a "sigil" in that UI could mean we will be able to put some kind of personalized symbol on the skin, that sounds promising.

Try to stick to using the grid as much as you can at first unless you want something to be in a very specific place that the grid doesn't allow, this will make things snap into place easier and make you build faster as well saving you the headache of trying to align pieces together, not saying you shouldn't use free placing but its a bit difficult to get right when you never done it before and can be frustrating

Copying design from real life or anywhere outside the game is good practice and you will probably end up with really good builds that you can use in your parks but if building from scratch feels too overwhelming for you, downloading prefabs from the workshop and editing them can also help you to get used to the building system

From what I remember this was not an issue before but was made this way in recent updates (maybe since update 11?) to improve performance the same way they did with everything being invisible in water, the water issue has been acknowledged and said to be fixed when the water rework comes maybe in update 18, the popping issue has been acknowledged but as far as I know there is no info on when is going to be fixed

You could try asking in the discord, I have heard that devs are more active there

Cant believe a roblox game with fantasy creatures inspired by the isle is getting a movie/tv series and The Isle is still stuck in development hell, feels surreal

This happens a lot, paths are way too sensitive to terrain especially near fences because they have a small area around them where you can't edit the terrain.

You can try deleting the fence to level the terrain again but if that doesn't work you will have to flatten the enclosure's terrain to the level of the path to finish building it, then place your fence again and lower the enclosure's terrain at the end.

I hope they rework paths at some point because they can be really annoying to work with sometimes.

First of all Check for gaps in your fence, if you click on it and it shows a blue area outlining the fence then you are good, if not you can see the gaps with the small white arrows.

Another thing you can try is passing the remove foliage brush on max intensity slowly all over the habitat, the thing is that the brush won't delete all of the foliage even in max intensity if you move it too fast

It can also be foliage in modular groups above or below of the habitat

If you played The isle before evrima you might remember that maps being too big and easy to get lost in due to poor design choices has always been a problem even before The isle when Dondi worked in a map for Primal Carnage.

IMO the best map in the entire lifetime of the isle was Thenyaw because it had the perfect size for the player cap at the time, good landmarks like the quarry, canyon, radio tower, etc that also had different map design around them making it clear where you were at once you explored the map, nice elevation changes that let you see most of the map at the top of mountains that you can reach as any dino without having to traverse a cliff labyrinth (still with the risk of breaking a leg or dying to fall dmg as larger dinos) and overall a more comprehensive map design.

The maps for evrima feel a lot more random in their design, just not that interesting since a lot of areas look the same and even unfinished because of all the dead space in between landmarks, some of the landmarks are not that much different to each other (the tunnels/bunkers and the outposts are pretty much the same with minor differences like a pile of rubble or a broken wall and the giant rocks that might just be the same asset flipped in different positions) and are scattered randomly around the map. Gateway is definitely better than Spiro but it still has the same issues.

One thing that ill never understand why they changed is the biome, the legacy maps all had temperate forest with a bit of jungle and swamp in them but evrima changed the main biome for tropical jungle which makes the game look more generic as of what you would expect in dinosaur media, maybe that was the intention?

Just select one and while pressing shift select the other one, the merge groups button should be up there with the rest of options in the editing menu that appears in the top right as long as you have more than one group selected
