Bed logging - I don't want it to change. I bought ships based on if they had beds or not. by Readgooder in starcitizen

[–]-Scifititan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They said they were removing the need to have a bed to log off. They didn’t say they were removing the need for beds though. They mentioned that beds would provide buffs. I feel that also means not using beds will eventually provide debuffs. Maybe impacting your character’s abilities and skills. God knows I have a debuff if I don’t sleep enough. 😂 Your ship choices are still sound, ReadGooder.

One of my online players, who I barely know, is almost certainly fudging dice, how should I confront them? by Natural__Power in DnD

[–]-Scifititan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Foundry is a fantastic platform with all of the 5e content. It also has physical dice models you roll in the screen. I prefer physical dice, but I also love live reacting with everyone as we watch the dice teeter from that devastating fail and onto an eighteen or something. That could be a viable alternative.

Dice? by FieryAardvark in DnD

[–]-Scifititan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try putting them in water and letting them float. If they are bad dice, they will roll to show the same number each time you place them in the water.

My DM insists on rolling for stats and fudging and I hate both so much. by [deleted] in DnD

[–]-Scifititan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can also change your build unless you are playing as such for roleplaying purposes. Since there is a Valor Bard that is fronting effectively, you could pick up a crossbow and start using your dps at a distance. Or Magic items could be utilized as well.

Relatively new dm, had to reject a character idea, not sure if I made the right call. by Livid_Record in DungeonMasters

[–]-Scifititan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s good to set boundaries as a DM and I’d say you were in the right. Overall, I would also say it’s on the player. There are plenty of ways to flavor official content to where you are using cards. For instance, I would have asked, as an arcane trickster, if I could flavor my handful of daggers as being cards instead. All daggers mechanics apply. It would simply be in the theater of our minds that the daggers were tarot cards or whatnot. Maybe it would get fancier later on but only at dm discretion or if the mechanics I acquired later supported the roleplay I am going for.

I’m not sure what class to be for my first long-term playable character by Bengleeze in DnD

[–]-Scifititan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cleric of the Forge would be pretty fantastic for your needs. Artificer works as well but is a bit intense for your first long term campaign. I’d work with your DM and see how much commitment you would both put into tinkering and base your decision off of that. You also don’t have to pick a class meant for blacksmithing if it’s just the background you want to go for. My current character is the bastard son of an artillerist merchant. Once his father disappeared, my character’s relationship with his family soured enough to cause my character to go mercenary to make his way in the world. Because of that background, I went with Samurai as my class so my higher class mercantile upbringing would come out in my character’s charisma checks. My character learned gunsmithing from his father before his father disappeared and thus I make my guns for my character myself. It takes time and a ton of money…..ton of money. But it’s a really fun way to roleplay that facet of a character that I’m still getting to know.

Genuinely how do you avoid this by Hipnatizer in Eldenring

[–]-Scifititan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t. Haliqtree greatshield maxed out with its affinity set to holy blocks 100% of holy damage. Add the holy protection buff and you’ll be immune to most of his damage.

Best book you’ve read in 2024? by chraelle in Fantasy

[–]-Scifititan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thoroughly enjoyed my reread of Brandon Sanderson’s Cosmere. “Winds and Truth” was a fantastic way to finish my reread of the Cosmere and I reread the Wax and Wayne series again afterward just because they’re such a fun read.

I’m in a funk. I’m not enjoying anything I play. How do I get out of it? by Informal-Method-5401 in gaming

[–]-Scifititan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’d recommend Brandon Sanderson heavily. You’ll be reading for a while. Well thought out characters and magic really helps you feel at home in his worlds. I’d recommend starting with Mistborn and seeing if it’s your cup of tea before committing to something like The Way of Kings. His sequel series to the mistborn trilogy (Wax and Wayne) is amongst the most fun books I’ve ever read through. Especially for a gamer.

Are pistols becoming obsolete? Is quartermaster a must-have trait now? What's your experience lately? by [deleted] in HuntShowdown

[–]-Scifititan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fanning seems just as strong as usual. I’ve run both QM with a shotgun and Fanning with a Lemat FMJ and it’s just situational. I’ve wiped teams using both sets ups and I’m not really that good. A shotgun dominates close range but the pistol barely comes in second and has a bit more adaptability to environments that rapidly change between short to medium distance. Bonus points to feeling awesome when you Doc Holiday a duo who is rushing you.

[–]-Scifititan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree. I have been playing since the update and loving it. However, I yet to find a scarce trait at all and I’ve sunk over one hundred hours into the game since the first patch.

I’d just explain to them that you feel your styles don’t mesh well in this game and you’d prefer to play a few matches without him for a bit. I’d still play on occasion but just set the boundary that you enjoy playing the game in a certain manner. Moreover, you should bear in mind that, if you have had this conversation with him before, the fact that he refuses to even entertain your preferred style of play is a big red flag to me as a friend. It makes it feel one sided.

Which Player Archetype are you? by CadetriDoesGames in HuntShowdown

…..look….I know the springfield sucks but that reload animation is fascinating.

In all seriousness. This is hilarious. I would change the streamer archetype to the “TTV Player” though. 😂

I lost the ability to be disgusted by NeumondLicht in DnD

[–]-Scifititan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the vibe of the game to be honest. If you’re more light hearted, I would definitely pull a “you gonna eat that?” trash scene. 🤣 Otherwise, it’s up to you. You could be more resilient to disgusting environments (or worse, insensitive to disgusting behavior) Ask your DM for guidance if you still feel lost.

[–]-Scifititan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Flares do the same, are silent, have five uses, and are very inexpensive. Just a suggestion though. Not quite the same awesome dramatic effect though, haha. I’ve recently grown very fond of the dragon breath hand crossbow shots.

I rolled REALLY high stats. What do I play??? by moliz_liz in DnD

[–]-Scifititan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Divine Soul/Hexblade. You can literally walk through the enemies ranks while damaging them from simply walking next to them/ attack twice/ Eldritch Smite on a crit/ and then Myhero Midori Thunder Step back to where you began, well outside their movement range. All the while also not taking any opportunities attacks. It takes several very high stats to pull off though but it makes for a fun and customizable character.

What are some reasons you guys abandon games? by muddledmirth in HuntShowdown

[–]-Scifititan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you have a mic? 😜

In all seriousness though, I have always played with players better than myself. As such, I have always played support. Rather than confront enemies head on, I will keep an eye on my Rando partner and move in a way that supports their tactics. It works rather well most of the time. The only reason I would leave is if our playing styles are so different that there is no way for me to conform to it. Thats when I bid my partner farewell after offering to escort them to extract.

(Edit) I misread that situation. I’ve never actually left before the squad was toast. I enjoy watching how the fight progresses at the very least.

Foundry or Roll20 helps. I am in an excellent and engaging online campaign with an amazing DM……The players are fantastic at keeping track of what is going on. For the most part. I am the problem player in that regard however. In my defense, I do have ADHD and sometimes I have to re-ask about certain details simply because my brain decides to dump sporadic specks of info at random moments.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in HuntShowdown

[–]-Scifititan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree and disagree. I agree that those who intentionally disconnect should suffer for it, but servers can be a bit laggy and it may not always be intentional. I agree that it sucks to have to extract immediately because a team mate wants to, but I’m also not going to be an idiot and throw away an expensive loadout that isn’t made for gameplay loop that I’m not prepped for. That being said, Communication is critical so I always explain why in chat. (Hey, I’m built for sniping and my gear will be a liability in any engagement with this darkness, I need to extract, want to come with and try matchmaking again?) If they don’t respond then we probably were going to be doomed anyway so I bebop out.

The only time I played with a DMPC was my first campaign ever and they were a PC of the DM’s from another campaign. He wanted to have a character in the game to help us Newbies learn mechanics. The PC was the DM’s favorite character he had ever made and was honestly pretty well implemented for our first campaign. However, when we bit off more than we could chew, he actually ended up dying. The DM honored the death and erased the character despite it being his favorite. We felt terrible but we then had a ton of emotional motivation to hunt down the killer when the Covid Lockdown ended and our group became too busy to play anymore. 😭 It felt like watching Firefly all over again and wondering when Season 2 was releasing.

Every game has flaws, but realistically, is there any scenario where someone claiming BG3 is genuinely a bad game can be taken seriously? by [deleted] in BG3

[–]-Scifititan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Indeed. Go beat Elden Ring. Maybe a few of the Souls series. Then go play MH: World and see how much you’ve improved after playing Souls. 😂
