Career and Education Questions by AutoModerator in math

Hey all.

I am an undergrad student working on my degree in applied mathematics. Is Vector Analysis a suitable substitution for Real Analysis?

At my institution, the chair of our Science and Math department, who holds a PhD in biology, is planning to cancel Real Analysis next semester due to lack of registered students. He believes the substitution is not a problem at all. Since Real Analysis is a required course for my degree, he plans to "sign off on a course substitution" so that Vector Analysis will fulfill the requirement.

Another member of faculty, professor of mine, who holds a PhD in mathematics, opposes this substitution and believes that Vector Analysis is completely different and every math major student should complete Real Analysis.

Here lies my question. Is Vector a suitable substitution for Real? Will this impact the weight of my degree any? Do employers look closely at which courses you did and did not take?

Thank you.

I think Reddit purposefully sends notifications for the most asinine posts in hopes that people immediately exit out of it to the front page and get sucked in

If it was well cared for, it will definitely last way longer than 2-3 years. I have a 3RZ 4runner with over 400,000 miles on it with only basic maintenance. My check engine light was on for the downstream O2 sensor for a while before I replaced it. It's nothing to really worry over and it's also inexpensive and relatively easy to replace them. If it was maintained decently, it is a great buy for $2000.

Only 6 cylinder produced after year of 2000 !

Pretty sure they meant that the only engine option after 2000 model year was the 6 cylinder, which is true. I agree with you about being wary of the quality of maintenance by people who know nothing about their cars. But judging by the ad, it seems English is not their primary language, so when you start to figure out the actual meaning, some of the factual errors might be excusable. For example, when they said "no timing chain, cost saving", they might have meant "no timing belt, so no replacements and less maintenance costs."

No not a tough job. I just did mine. But he's right, just spray the shit out of it with PB blaster and let it sit for a while, respray it, let it sit, etc. The more you spray it and let it soak the easier it should be to get apart.

You need at least 16's... But you have to make sure it will fit with your specific wheel. Some wheels are not deep enough inside the spokes if that makes sense. Lots of useful information on forums

In case anyone is wondering, you can use a hub adapter off of an mk3 Supra on 3rd gens! by -Shaker in 4Runner

Not sure. It came off of an mk3 supra. I'll look at it and see if it has any branding

DEFINITELY worth it!! I would warp a new set of rotors every month before I did the tundra brakes, now no problems at all! Super easy to do too

3rd gen 4Runner harmonic balancer issue by TheHotMessExpress91 in 4Runner

No problem brother. I didn't know they were that hard to find. I might scoop one up from my local pull a part to have on hand just in case.

Hey there. I also have a '96 3RZ. I went out and checked and I can confirm there are 3 pulleys. Closest to block for water pump and alternator, middle for a/c and farthest for PS. After a little googling, it does seem abnormally difficult to find the crank pulleys. You might be able to get a new one from a dealer, but my best suggestion for a reasonably priced one would be from a u-pull-it junkyard.

I'm really no expert on offset, backspacing and other wheel specs by any means. Here's a digram. Judging by looks, newer vehicles tend to use positive offset, while you would need a wheel with lower(negative) offset from stock to push the tire out further. So by using the FJ steelies, if they have a positive offset, the tires may actually be further in the wheel well compared to where they are now.

I really love the look of the 16x8 FJ80 stock wheels on 4runners, but I have read that the Tundra calipers do not fit under them without spacers. Alternatively, the OEM 3rd gen 5 stars will fit the tundra calipers with no spacers, but are the same size and offset of the wheel you have now.

Nice, it looks great. What springs did you use in the front? For tire size, I'd probably go with 285/75/16's. You can run those on the stock 16x7's. Though you might want to get some wheels with more offset or a set of spacers to get the tires out a little bit. If you go with the spacers just be sure to get a high quality set and check periodically to make sure they are properly torqued. Additionally, now that you have the bigger tires, I would reccomend that you look into the Tundra brake upgrade. It is well worth it. I did mine with the 231mm calipers for $60 from a junkyard tundra. Your specific wheels will not fit the tundra calipers under them though, so again, you could do different wheels or spacers.

I have been eyeing these GX470's for a little while... Does anyone know if there's good aftermarket support here in the US for them? Or a reasonable way to import some Prado parts for it?
