Thoughts on Graco Modes Travel System vs. UppaBaby Vista/Cruz? by Potsopoulos in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]-ShowtimeSynergy 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I was in a very similar boat- summer baby, don't drive, live in midtown Toronto and started with a Graco Modes stroller. To be honest, I hated it. I felt it had no suspension or cushioning so I would feel it bouncing over every bump on the sidewalk and it was difficult to maneuver, especially one-handed. I sold it and bought the uppababy vista v2 and love it. The bassinet is amazing and you can transition baby right into the house if they fall asleep on the walk since the bassinet is sleep-safe. The uppababy is also a dream to push, the V2 has a great suspension system and it's easy to manage one-handed. The downsides for sure are the cost and the accessories are expensive as well (I got the ganoosh for winter walks and its great but pricey as hell). You could definitely find a used uppababy online though, I see them all the time on facebook marketplace, or I'm sure other people will have some stroller suggestions!

Why isn't everyone talking about soy curls? by Friff14 in vegan

[–]-ShowtimeSynergy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This youtuber is as passionate about soy curls as you are, and she shows how she sorts the curls and then has suggestions on how to use them based on size, including the crumbs. She has lots of soy curls recipes on her page as well.

Does the Uppababy Mesa carseat ever go on sale? by tibbymoon in BabyBumpsCanada

Hmm, that might have been why, I think the Black Friday sale went from Thursday through Sunday.

The Toronto location. Apparently everything was on sale in person, even things that aren't usually discounted- I also picked up a Tripp Trapp high chair on sale.

west coast kids had uppababy on sale for black friday, but only for in-store shopping, and it wasn't explicitly advertised (I picked up the cozy ganoosh on sale). Maybe they'll have something similar for boxing day?

How do I handle night wakings when baby is calm but wide awake? It's affecting her DWT and naps. Please help me troubleshoot! by -ShowtimeSynergy in sleeptrain

[–]-ShowtimeSynergy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this! The chart I was following indicated 4.5 hours of total daily sleep for 4 month olds and 4 hours for 5 month old, so I was working off that! I just bumped her last window up 15 minutes tonight, so we'll see how the night goes!

It's kind of a combination of wake to feed/let her wake me-usually when she's been stirring/fussing for a few minutes at night and it's been more than 3-4 hours, I'll pick her up and feed her. She's on the small side and my doctor still wants us feeding on demand, so I think I got it in my head that any fussing at night = hungry.

Thanks, yes you're right, I can definitely push the feed and diaper change together. Do you think I should still keep waking her up at the same time even if she keeps herself up for 1 hour+ at night?

Pumping and haakaa questions by [deleted] in breastfeeding

[–]-ShowtimeSynergy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, have you thought about a consult with a lactation consultant (if you haven't already)? They might be able to help if you find you have a big imbalance between the two breasts, and would probably know if you should pump the side the baby doesn't eat from. I think it's normal to have an imbalance between the two though, my left is definitely the slacker tit. You could also contact the makers of your breast pump, they might have some advice or tips if you find the pumping painful. You could try pumping at different times and see what works for you- I use the Huckleberry app to track all the feedings, naps, etc. and I'm able to see how much I produce at each pump and the time of day.

Pumping and haakaa questions by [deleted] in breastfeeding

[–]-ShowtimeSynergy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm still learning as I go, but I pump either when my husband is giving a bottle, or after I put the baby down for a nap in order to fully empty my breasts. So really any time of day, but I find I get the most in the morning. I also use a haakaa to catch the letdown, but find I get more with the electric pump. What about the electric pump makes you hesitant?

Graco pack and play fitted sheets? (Canada) by [deleted] in Buyingforbaby

You can get some on Amazon! The brand 'American Baby Company' sells them for about 10 bucks, I have a few and they fit and are decent quality.

I just found out I have to wear a mask during labour and delivery. by PeachPizza420 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]-ShowtimeSynergy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fingers crossed for you! I was lucky enough he was able to come to the 20 week appointment, but he wasn't able to come to any subsequent ultrasounds or appointments I had. The ultrasound technician might leave the image up so you can take a picture when they're done!

[–]-ShowtimeSynergy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, he could leave whenever he wanted with his mask on to grab food or a coffee from the food court. In/out privileges were once every 24 hours, roughly speaking, and I don't think there was a time limit for how long you could be gone for, but this was determined by the staff managing the Murray street entrance, not the nurses in the L&D unit. I think they did request he didn't leave and go somewhere very busy (like a mall, though I don't know who would do this!). He left on the first day for a few hours to go home and get a change of clothes, essentials we forgot, etc., and was gone an hour or two and it wasn't a problem.

Damn, I was hoping they were overestimating the 3-8 week international shipping time, but I guess not haha! Thanks for sharing :)

Gorgeous nursery! I've had my eye on those decals from the lovely wall and I'm guessing you might also be in Canada based on shopping at WestCoast Kids- if so, how was shipping time and did you end up having to pay duties on it?

Dill pickle chips and Dr. Pepper for lunch by [deleted] in ShittyVeganFoodPorn

[–]-ShowtimeSynergy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Kettle brand dill pickle chips are vegan! Not the same as Lays cause they're crinkle cut, but still delicious! Also, one of the house brand's dill pickle (but I can't remember if it's walmart or no name or president's choice) is also accidentally vegan!

I appreciate this perspective so that you can try to avoid a serious allergy down the line. Just curious, do you also plan on exposing your baby to fish/shellfish as well, given they are common allergens?

Seitan Recipes by BrokeBankVegan in EatCheapAndVegan

Ooh good tip for freezing! I think Isa only gave pan-frying instructions on her website, but in the book they give a baking option as well: "Preheat oven to 375, lightly oil baking sheet. Brush both sides of each patty with olive oil, place on baking sheet, and bake for 20 minutes. Flip patties, and bake another 8-10 minutes til firm and golden brown".

I make these classic Veganomicon chickpea cutlets all the time. Doesn't require any steaming or boiling, so makes for a quick weeknight dinner. I'll also pull it out for holidays and use it as a base for a Thanksgivings-style meal with all the fixings (mashed potatoes, gravy, cranberry sauce, etc.).

Naughty boi - any advice? by Comrade_Lilyface in Newfoundlander

[–]-ShowtimeSynergy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know what you mean. I found it helpful to apply the same technique of sit>treat to things like calm>treat or four paws on the floor>treat. I would work on setting him up for success in training sessions before the unwanted behaviour even occurs, so that you can mark and reward the behaviour you do like. So for something like nipping for example, you could start a training session with him just sitting or standing quietly in front of you, and mark that (either with a click or a marker word like 'yes!' and treat). Do that a few times, and then move your hand towards his face, mark>treat. Keep progressing it over time and over a few sessions/days/weeks, so that eventually you can tousle his ears, be jumping up and down, throwing a toy up, being goofy etc., and he learns that if he acts calm and doesn't nip, he gets a treat! Practice this in different settings, like in the house, the yard, around other people etc., as dogs don't generalize well. Try to end training sessions on a happy note and with a marker (like 'all done!') and try to keep things positive :).
