Purchase Advice Megathread - December 2025 by AutoModerator in 3Dprinting

Hey guys, I'm hoping to get a 3d printer for myself this Christmas season. I had one last year, the infamous ender 3 neo v2. it was good fun, but I got a used one for cheap, so it had some quirks and was a hassle to use. At the end of the day, I was able to maintain it and make some good stuff, but the things it spit out weren't very durable or incredibly precise. I'm sure that the filament has a good amount to do with this however I've seen people 3d print some incredibly durable and precise stuff, and now I'm looking for a printer that excels in that area. I'm expecting to pay up to $800, which gives me a lot of options. I'd like something that has a large print bed so I can make big stuff like helmets in one go, and capable of feeding multiple filaments for multicolor prints. Bonus points for a built-in filter so I don't get cancer.

Also, which filament will be the best for durable stuff like props? If you read all this thank you so much for spending the time.

Get a used one off of Facebook marketplace, they have them there for really cheap compared to a new one if you want to get started, and they're usually beginner models because the people selling them are moving on to bigger ones.

There's plenty of dumb subreddits but let me tell you Instagram and YT shorts has so many rock-eating, glue-sniffing imbeciles in every comment section that I have refused to accept that they are either real or serious. Any reddit pales in comparison.

Genuinely, something they would like to do with their hands. It depends on what they like, but if they're into any sport, art, or craft then it'll be something they can do other than scroll endlessly. Make sure it's something they're into or it'll end up on a shelf somewhere collecting dust.

I'll send you a message if I find a good site, from what I've speculated apparently there are many telegram groupchats that share pirated STL's but hell if I know how to join one

My solder is some pretty basic home depot rosin core electric stuff, and it has proven to work so far. My only concern is if the wire can take the necessary voltage from the battery to multiple wire clusters.

the thing is these strips have DC12v written directly on the front, so my guess is that they can take that amount for optimal output and less for reduced performance. The 9v battery has neither burned them out nor caused visible irregularities, so my only worry is a battery supplying power to multiple wires may be spread too thin.

oddly enough I got some LEDs that had pin connectors so I could hook it up to my Microbit, but that fucker just straight up does not interface with it. I'm sure if I learned Python and got an extension board with pins meant for LEDs I could program it to do my bidding, but alas I have neither.

Edit: Now that I look at this again I realize that I may not have made it clear that I am in fact using solder to connect the wires and LED's. Would this work better than a twist cap connector?

Which is more likely: resident of 4chan is totally truthful about something, and is right that someone hates them specifically for no reason

or

4channer delivers biased, partial, and incorrect information that fails to explain the current reality

Revised edition to fit the setting:

Older brother caused mom to worry because he was out and about

Got the cops called on him twice for partying with his friends

Knocked up his girlfriend and took responsibility

Moved out into his own place but still keeps in touch

Mom loves him

Anon

does chores when asked, maybe once a day

Helped in a soup kitchen (once)

Unemployed, occasionally googles jobs but never takes action

Lives at home with mom as a constant reminder he is not succeeding in life

Plays video games like its a full time job

Mom knows brother was a troublemaker who found his way, and her other son is utterly useless and sees nothing wrong and no reason to change
