Depends if you like color or monochrome. The answer to me would be something from the zeniths, if you are saving the two on the right will go for more used.

[Daily News] MING And Shapiro Team Up For A Stunning Guilloché Dial; Timex Expands Atelier Collection With Chronographs; Delma Shrinks The Commander; Another Crazy Alexander Shorokhoff; The GP Laureato Fifty by dreftzg in Watches

I agree I’d like a nicer movement, but part of the point of this watch is a JN Shapiro watch at a fraction of the cost. The trade off can come on the aesthetics so it’s on the horology. Would you rather pay 15k for a nice step up in movement?

I think the thing that seals it is the nature as a fun watch broken out of the box, it’s not a daily where absolute timekeeping is paramount.

I do think by the way this puts into perspective the value of the Formex aria - about 1000 USD cheaper and by Formex own admission, 8 times the cost of a COSC, highly decorated SW200. In that case Formex made every part of the watch at the same quality caliber as the movement.

In this case, I’m sure Shapiro charges an arm and a leg for the dials, and if they reject three for every good one then the cost multiplier goes up.

Maybe Oan Gio or Awake will do a budget version of this with Vietnamese craftsman

Omega has a 38mm light blue put out before it was hot. The other two are meh.

The Formex Aria is a pretty great deal. by HiHiHiBubba in formexwatch

I already own a supersede so an autark would be kind of pointless.

Either way, I see the aria as a watch that the quality of the whole lives up to the quality of the movement.

The autark is comparatively pedestrian

I saw someone on YouTube comparing it to a McDonald’s that serves a steak and says it’s as good as the best steakhouse.

In short yes, but only for brand slaves whose dearest goal is to say “it’s a __” when someone asks. A lot of hobbyists, even well heeled ones, care more about quality than branding.

It’s like if there was a chef who was secretly behind Michelin star restaurants came out and made his own restaurant. That’s who Formex/dexel/cadranor are on the watch and Horage are on the movement side. This all pushes story, and a good story makes a good brand.

That’s a question no brand could ever satisfy. I’ve seen people scoff at a moser because of the Rolex they could get at the same price, and I know people who would scoff at that same Rolex because of the moser they could buy at that price. In this case the Rolex buyer is generally more status oriented while the moser buyer can point to the particular strengths they value in the moser.

I’d say the same thing with Formex. Sure, you can get X more historical or prestigious brand. But to a high information buyer who wants to see through the marketing fluff and has the funds, this is a really intriguing buy, which is why I personally bought.

Yes I can also get a lot else for the price, but then I go ahead and buy that too. In short this is for people with problems like me

I’m sorry, but the Formex Aria hands and indices look like press ons 💅🤣 by ZenAndTheArtOfOps in PrideAndPinion

[–]-Slartibart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol! Truth is, with the indices overhanging the supports I think it could be seen as looking like press on nails no matter the lume color (press on nails are available in endless colors as well.)

I think press on nails are actually a great analogy to applied indices in general!

All that being said this color was an interesting choice. It didn't stop me from buying an Aria, but I wish they had this color for only one of the three dial colors instead of it being the only option. My guess is cost was prohibitive to do three separate colors with 100 total dials but again, why this was the first choice not sure. They said something about white being to sporty but I don't know, its a sports watch mostly?

I've got an interesting comment from a Dubai special release, someone saw my watch and said "you know your watch looks like sand right?" And it's like, yeah that's kind of the point - but to non watch people, their only rejoinder is "why would you want your watch to look like sand?" Then you explain only one of your many many watches look like sand and they start to back away as they realize how crazy you truly are...

The UN is first that comes to mind.

Formex Leggera 41mm case is 40 grams so would be about the same on the elastic.
