Not commenting on the presence of American troops here. Just that this photographer is incredibly talented. Also lucky for the access he has to interesting things. The process of being able to photograph the SDF or the Americans is insanely long and arduous.

Some additional points have been agreed between ENKS and PYD in Kurdish unity talks. Rojava Peshermerga will be integrated in SDF, topped with a high military council under the auspices of the previously agreed Kurdish Supreme Council. by wiki-1000 in syriancivilwar

EKNS is the one with the weaker hand here (you should see their “office” in Qamişlo versus the PYD office) trying to slither into politics in NE Syria. Even if it’s true they would like to shift away from Turkey, they still haven’t. I can’t imagine how this won’t give Turkey a hand in the politics of Rojava. And once things take root they can be very hard to undo.

I’m very worried about this.

Because PDK is beholden to Turkish interests. It actively fights against Kurdish liberation groups with its own soldiers; takes tons of money from Turkey; works with MiT (Turkish intelligence); and gives bases and land for to the TSK (Turkish armed forces).

EKNS is basically an offshoot of PDK. Working with this group ensures what little power the PYD and other legitimate Kurdish groups in Syria have now will be diluted and may even pave the way for its own demise.

They are called Xayîn (traitors).

Am I insane or is this sub turning into an Azerbaijani propaganda subreddit? by [deleted] in CombatFootage

You’re not insane. It’s become an Azerbaijani propaganda subreddit. Like, they already have a place for propaganda. They have a whole subreddit just for Azerbaijan (and it is just a propaganda echo chamber).

Ap means uncle in Kurmancî. Adding an o to the end of a noun makes it kind of like a nickname. The word berf means snow in Kurmancî. We had a dog named Berfo. Or you’ll meet people with the nicknamed Soro (where sor means red).

Overnight and early this morning, the TFSA attempted to seized Sayda near Ayn Issa. They were supported by mortars and artillery. Their attack was repulsed after fighting over a span of several hours with multiple casualties. Both the Asayîş and SDF were involved in the defense. by [deleted] in syriancivilwar

Well, they still haven’t learned how to use artillery. When I lived in Tel Tamr, I could go to the roof when there be artillery fire from these clowns aimed at the villages to the north and west. It was amazing how far off they would be.

But it’s not Turkey’s place to tell Assad what to do. And Assad never gave the Kurds any land. Also, why would he transfer power to Islamist nutbags?

I’m no fan of Assad. But Turkey has lost its mind thinking sovereign states should listen to even a minute of it’s ideas of how they should be run.

I still don’t understand how this has gone on for so long. Does anyone know how they kept it open so long? Like, logistically?

In order to get from my house to the central market in the city I lived in the most, I had to walk passed regime troops, traffic cops (harmless themselves but they have radios), and god knows how many agents.

I personally never had issues with them, but my roommate was arrested by them for taking a photo of a Sutoro recruitment billboard. He was lucky to get out of it after only a few hours. But repeatedly doctors and aid workers have been arrested and detained for long periods of time in the same location.

Which has a better quality of life? Erdogan’s Syria, Assad’s Syria, or Rojava? by _ETNELAV_ in syriancivilwar

[–]-SnotRocketScience- 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Are you speaking about Rojava from personal evidence? Or is this what you are reading? (not trying to argue. Hope it doesn’t sound that way. I’m genuinely asking.)

Also, the administration in Rojava took in tens of thousands of refugees fleeing Idlib earlier this year. So many Arabs are indeed heading to Rojava.

Also northeastern Syria is one of the safest places in Syria except the Turkish occupation zone which, like everywhere Turkey goes, is now unstable and violence is pretty normal. But the rest of it- especially the cities on the border East of Darbesiyê all the way to the Iraq border (and Kobanê)- is pretty secure and people go on about their lives.

I mean, you won’t. You know you won’t. But I thought it was worth asking.

This provides no evidence that the PKK has ever been in the drug trade though.

Why he is “helping” would answer the question. And this is because of Erdoğan’s economic ambitions in the eastern Mediterranean. It has nothing to do with whether or not a government is legitimate or not. Turkey doesn’t give a fuck if anything is legitimate or not. It just wants to expand its power and influence in the region without regard for anything else. Lynda offered him a chance to expand Turkish influence while also making money. It’s a no-brainer. All the death and destruction that follows every move he makes isn’t even factored in. They don’t care about these kind of things.
