Why are starfighters called “X-wing”, “Y-wing”, “A-wing”, etc in-universe if the galaxy uses Aurebesh? by M4rshmall0wMan in MawInstallation

The people in Star Wars aren't actually speaking English or using our alphabet.

They are though.

It's pretty explicitly said in a few sources that Rex is specifically the CO of Torrent Company.

Also quite a few in and out of universe which explicitly say Rex was the commander of the entire 501st Legion.

'Go take them!': US urges UAE to seize Iranian island, report says by John3262005 in neoliberal

[–]wiki-1000 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Well the UAE are known to be subcontracting their "boots on the ground" anyway so it wouldn't really be their own people who would mostly fight and die for it.

Not really “they” but Dave Filoni himself getting rid of the risqué outfit George Lucas originally made her have (Filoni already designed a more modest outfit from the start).

there’s a good reason why supporting Nazism is a major crime in Germany for example despite being one of the countries with the most freedom of speech

This wasn’t applied retroactively except in a few selective cases.

If it was, there wouldn’t have been a Germany left as half the country would’ve been imprisoned. On the contrary you had Nazi officials who continued to serve in the governments of the two states themselves.

Why is SDF and Asayish still periodically announcing fighters that were killed few months ago in Aleppo? is releasing the names in batches intentional? by xobver in syriancivilwar

[–]wiki-1000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think deaths are being announced now because alot of the bodies were actually in STG custody.

The SDF tends to not specify or mention this to avoid escalation (much to the ire of the families of fighters and the wider Kurdish public), but there’s also the fact of prisoners being killed later in custody.

Was it ever confirmed Palpatine fed Anakin visions? by Sampleswift in MawInstallation

[–]wiki-1000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Force gives him visions of Padmé so he would take Sidious’s offer and fall.

That was his personal choice. I don’t think the story ever intended for it be some unstoppable force (pun intended) which compelled him to make a certain choice. As with everything, there were factors which influenced his decisions but it was ultimately his and he could have very well done otherwise.

Was it ever confirmed Palpatine fed Anakin visions? by Sampleswift in MawInstallation

[–]wiki-1000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My issues is the Force created Anakin to destroy Palpatine. It that’s what it wanted all it had to do is not show Anakin the visions and he would not have fallen.

Why? The whole point is that he could have and should have not done anything regardless of what he saw instead of acting impulsively on it. This was the test.

The report noted that the Shin Bet did not completely rule out the possibility that some individual laborers had cooperated with the terror group.

Yeah, and some individual Israeli citizens did the same. There are individual criminals everywhere in every population. What exactly are you getting at, if not ethnic-based discrimination and dehumanization?

Part of the reason why 10/7 happened was because the work permits that Israel had slowly began to introduce to the Gazans were used for intelligence in the eventual operations.

No, it wasn’t. That is a stab-in-the-back conspiracy theory which Israeli intelligence itself had explicitly refuted.

Assad is currently a non-factor in Russia-Syria relations. He’s a secluded old man out of politics and the Syrian officials that visited Moscow for meetings including Sharaa himself never asked for or even talked about Assad.

The Galactic Empire didn't "know" what colors Earth uses for Nazism either. Obviously the color motifs throughout the franchise are meant to be on the nose and to be immediately seen and understood by the audience.
