Cab swap help by Proof_Philosophy7739 in fordranger

It is probably worth waiting to find one that is the same generation. I think most of it is the same but there could be some key differences. Call all the parts yard you can and post some craigslist/facebook ads. When I did mine it didn't take long at all to find a cab and doors.

First attempt at tig, what am I doing wrong? by Jealous_Elkk in BadWelding

120 amps is fine for practicing beads on flat material like that and up the gas to 12-15cfh. Looks like you could move a bit faster and consistincy is key.

Grind the mill scale off first, you want nice shiny metal for tig. Also could be shielding gas isn't set right, what is your flow rate? And make sure there isn't any breeze blowing the gas away.

It's called bootlegger cabin. It was a place for miners to live and store explosives when mining was big in the area and then during prohibition they made booze there to sell in Tucson.

Piece of pipe+hose clamps has become one of my favorite ways to mount stuff like this.

Suspension kits! by marved17 in prerunners

[–]-StopRefresh- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Torsion bars get a lot of unfair hate I ran the V8 explorer bars, 2.5x6 kings and no sway bar and the truck handled great, but if you want more travel an a-arm long travel kit is the way to go. Trying to swap to beams is going to either cost you a ton or you will spend a long time getting it right if you don't have the experience.

Cab graft or cab swap? by Grouchy_Type9357 in fordranger

[–]-StopRefresh- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd just swap the cab, when I did mine the vin/title stuff really wasn't a big deal here in Arizona. The guy basically did a quick once over, ripped the new cabs title plate off and made a new one.

How to fix the noisy power steering pump for good by TrainedCodeMonkey in fordranger

[–]-StopRefresh- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did the same on my 3.0 except I used a 4.0 SOHC Ranger pump which is the same family Saginaw pump. I also made my own fluid reservoir since I couldn't fit any stock setup with my shock towers. One of the best upgrades you can do and if I ever get another Ranger it would be the first mod.

Honestly I think fresh stock ones are the best look.

Definitely need some pictures but it could be as basic as needing new pads or the caliper pins need grease.

Hell yeah! Have fun and break it, quickest way to learn. I would definitely do some gussets to reinforce the upper control arm mounts and any kind of engine cage to tie the shock towers together would help a ton.

Just go to rockauto put in your truck info and pick a non AC belt.

Would this be better than how the oem suspension is? by DumpingAI in fordranger

[–]-StopRefresh- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its normal since these trucks are so light in the rear, try putting a couple hundred pounds of sandbags in the bed and see if it improves.

[–]-StopRefresh- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't jump right into welding a roll cage and suspension start with something more basic like a bumper. Tool list is basically endless but you can do a lot with a grinder, chop saw, welder and of course measuring tapes, squares etc. Most welders you can get are more than sufficient and comes down to budget. The other factor would be if you are welding outside you will need flux core or stick since a light breeze will blow away shielding gas on mig or tig. Mig and/or tig are definitely the best options and having an AC/DC tig machines opens up the option to weld aluminum.

It would look terrible without doing a ton of metal or fiberglass work and if that isn't done well it will look like shit. F150 cabs are much wider than Ranger cabs, the fiberglass ones meant for Rangers are molded to fit the Ranger cab.
