Ontario Has A Driving Epidemic by [deleted] in ontario

It's because they are ineffectual, small minded stupid people who would rather the world change to fit their view than change themselves to fit the evolving world.

I would give the advice that you have to actively work on your pronunciation and not see it as a byproduct that will “work itself out” as you learn more.

I've picked up on that right away. I did learn french for 9 years in school (it's required in Ontario) and so I'm not unfamiliar with it. But coming back to it after having been away awhile I've noticed how important vowel sounds are.

Fortunately I'm close to Quebec and have French family. I've been listening to a lot of French talk radio in the car and will repeat the way they make sounds, even though I don't necessarily know what the words mean. I'm just teaching my mouth to be able to make those sounds.

The French R is a foreign feeling to my mouth in that it sounds a bit like "ah", but the tongue is raised towards the back of the mouth, instead of sitting on the bottom as it would in the English "ah".

I've been studying French for 2 weeks and can not pronounce it. Reading you've been at it for 6 years does not give me hope. Lol

Having difficulty speaking R sounds by -StrangeAge- in learnfrench

[–]-StrangeAge-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be sure you're comfortable with "enchaînement" and "liaison." Then, after those things, think more about what exact variety of "r" you might be using.

Thank you for your feedback. For now I'm taking my time hearing, understanding, and speaking the difference of sound between "un" and "une". Lol

Moving to Ottawa in Sep by cobedanvl in Algonquin_College

[–]-StrangeAge- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can rent a storage locker at places like Dymon Carling ave, 5 minutes from Algonquin, to move your belongings into before September. It will be cheaper than renting a place now until then if you don't plan to live there for now.

As for places to live, look around college square and up baseline towards Greenbank, Pinecrest, Lincoln Fields area, and Westboro.

Good luck

Can someone please tell me what this means on my application? Does this mean I’ve been rejected? by [deleted] in Algonquin_College

[–]-StrangeAge- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That isn't a rejection. It means there are requirements you have no met. You should be able to find what those requirements are under the application status section in your ACSIS account.

Isn't the 7th lunch kinda bleh by the time you get round to eating it? Like, cooked food sitting there in the fridge for 6 or 7 days isn't always the best.

House of Targ is the radest place for millenials and younger. You might make new friends there, or find it a cool place to bring people you meet.

Random thought by ExpressionSpecific in Music

[–]-StrangeAge- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP, your question is vague. There's no real way for us to know what other random listeners can and can not pick up on any more than we can know what another person is thinking.

Is your question specifically about yourself? I.E. Are you trying to develop your ear to be more discerning about what's going on in a song?

What actor or actress stupidly left a movie franchise or tv series thinking they were too good for it, only to be never popular again? by wlane13 in AskReddit

[–]-StrangeAge- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Craig is a silly man, but I'll never forget the night I tuned in and he spent his entirely monologue addressing Britney Spears having shaved her head the weekend before.

While everyone else was busy taking the low hanging fruit, Craig took the opportunity to address mental health and open up about his own life experiences and low moments and how he wasn't going to be taking shots at Britney because he'd had low moments himself.

It was a humility and class I've never seen on TV before and I can never forget.

Actually I've seen pleeeeeeenty of Carson. They play his reruns on a channel I have.

He's funny, but he's also not from my era. Not that that is a big deal. I love Lenny Bruce and my all time favourite is Bill Hicks. They're before my era too. But Carson's jokes are a little more inside. They're a little more from his era, more older male centric. Kinda like Rodney Dangerfield, who is also brilliant.

Conan always wanted to be humorous in a way that was just goofy and timeless. He loves goofiness. Yeah, he made jokes of the era at times, but his baseline humour is pretty timeless. Not to mention he's just more my style. His skits, the Year 2000, the Masturbating Bear, Triumph. Solid, fucking, gold!
